This started on HBO about a month back. For those that are unaware, the premise of the show is that vampires have revealed themselves to the public and are attempting to co-exist with humans. The lead actress being Anna Paquin helps...especially since she's wearing very little clothing for most the time. :D

Interesting series so far. Has its funny moments and its dark side as well dealing heavily with racism. So far, so good.

Anyone else watching this show?

Last episode I watched was #2. The start of Episode 3 was very cheesy and I didn't make it through the opening credits. Maybe I'll catch up on it later.

I have the first 4 episodes (though have only watched the first one). Its pretty good so far and I'll keep watching for this season. Its made by the guy who created Six Feet Under (i couldn't get into that show but i heard its good).

Didn't expect the nudity though. lol.

I've followed this until 35 minutes into the third episode, it made my brain hurt. The only reason I didn't stop watching sooner was because I wanted to give it a chance. It didn't work.

I have only seen the pilot of the first episode, and the second ep (hello, changed characters and actors). The shift made it tricky to compare the first and second episodes. But what I saw I did enjoy.

its okay and is entertaining enough to watch for now. I think I've watched the first 3 and will give 4 a shot sometime this week / weekend.

Nothing amazing, but I don't have high standards for entertainment =/

I'm liking it enough to keep watching. Entourage is what I'm really waiting for on Sunday nights.

I'm probably going to give it a couple more episodes. I feel that the show is on a razors' edge in that one wrong turn it can 1) start to take itself far to seriously and end up being the worst of Six Feet Under or 2) become Beauty and the Beast the TV series with nudity.

I definitely see potential in it...I'm just not convinced it will live up to it.

Also, they really need to 1) tamp down the overplayed angry black person stereotype of Tara and 2) make some kind of effort to better differentiate Sam and Jason in their appearance...they wear the same types of clothes, same color hair, same scruffy beard, etc.

If they tone down on Tara by making her walk around topless that would be fine by me. ;)

I felt pretty robbed on that front the other night.

The acting is almost universally bad. The emo-ness of most of the characters really bugs me. I saw the episode where they went to a vampire club and met the alpha vampire and he was such a douchebag with his "come hither" hand gesture and Paquin's friend saying "he's summoned you- that never happens".

The nudity is there to make you forget how bad the rest of the show is. Also, I'm from the South, from New Orleans specifically, and every one of these southern "Cajun" accents is just turrible, turrible turrible.

Why can't HBO just bring back Carnivale or Deadwood or both?

I'm actually kind of enjoy the show. It's certainly no Wire but it's good enough to keep me entertained.

I know!

It makes me sick to think that they cancelled two such incredible shows, and for what?? So that they could spend their time and money on frivolous dreck like this?

I understand that Carnivale and Deadwood were both hugely expensive and complex shows to produce compared to almost anything else on TV, but the results clearly speak for themselves. OK, maybe not in terms of raw numbers of viewers, but it would be nice to think that at the end of the day they wanted to be remembered for what they made, not how many people tuned in to see the tittays.. bleh.

I'll never forgive them for canning Carnivale. Never.

QFT, these were two of my favorite shows. Although, season 3 of Deadwood was a bit of a let down. It seemed to lose a bit of its grit. Carnivale was just getting crazy and they dumped it. What a huge disappointment. Carnivale was probably my favorite HBO show of all time.

I really liked Carnivale at first, but the end of the series left no doubt in my mind that the writers were clearly winging it and had no direction. Besides that, Clea Duvall makes me feel all blech with her man-jaw.

True Blood is pretty good so far. Honestly, the emo/angsty stuff doesn't bother me. Ever since Anne Rice, that's all vampires are nowadays. She ruined vampires for our generation by turning them into pasty overemotional fops.

You nailed it, Telefrog. They took the emo vampire style directly from Interview with the Vampire. The whole moody, vaguely gay vampire thing just seems so cliche to me now.

I guess this show isn't for me.

The last writer that I can remember that got vampires right is Joss Whedon. His creations pretty much hit every vampire stereotype you could think of and created some.

Actually, that couldn't be further from the truth. The overarching story was already completely fleshed out, and Daniel Knauf knew exactly where it was going to end up; the final scene was already written.

The show was conceived as a series of three 'books', with each book spanning two seasons of TV (for a total of six seasons).

With a story arc so long ranging, the stupid fuckheads basically cancelled it at the beginning of the climax.

Bah, she the best character in it :p

The show is..... kinda crap really. But I read the comic which sets up the universe (Revelations or something is was called) and the concept keeps me watching. Bill's involvement in the Civil War and shit like that is what they should focus on more, the grandmother's the only person who seems to have picked up on the fact semi-immortal beings are pretty fucking awesome to have for history lessons.

And yes, the theme is awesome.

Ok last night's episode was not horrible. The acting was better, AND Anna Paquin got her boobs out. I also liked the previous episode with the Civil War stories. It's growing on me, but still feels a little too soap opera. This is probably OK as I stuck through both seasons of Jericho with the same complaints.

Indeed, I was most pleased with the Anna Paquin boobage. I dig the show. It's not at the top of the list of favorite shows, but it's fun. My wife is also obsessed with vampires so it's nice to have a show we can watch together occasionally.

I was talking about this last night BEFORE I saw the most recent episode. I'd liked where the Civil War episode was headed and that was a big cliffhanger deal at the end of that one.

So yeah, I was just OK with things as they were but these previous 2 episodes have moved it into the "getting better" phase.

Hey, it only took what...6 episodes.
