I'm not sure if people forgot about this game once reviews hit, but it is a very good game. First of all, production is perfect. Excellent graphics and cinematics, music, and writing. The Sonic levels are fucking fun...which was a perfect evolution from the Adventure series.

The only downside is that the pace is interrupted by the Werehog stages. They aren't bad, actually, they are quite enjoyable, but not what I wanted in a Sonic game. My suggestion is to use all of your exp points to level up the werehog to make him a beast. This way the levels are a breeze.

There's a lot to this game, and I couldn't tell you how many hours it may take to complete. The further I've been getting, the more 'intro' stuff I'm being introduced to. For instance, playing all last night and again this morning...I was finally introduced to the world map.

The bosses have a lot of variety too. From skill based to timing. But it shows this game has so much to it.

Basically I'm recommending it, and for the time it may take to get through it, it seems worth the purchase. I myself Gameflied it, but I'll probably keep it.

... and writing.
I think I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. Maybe it's better than Sonic 2006 but that's not saying much.

Well, lets remember that this is aimed at children. They put a lot into the story in that regard. From characters to their background and including that into the story. The whole thing about 'food'? I was impressed.

Uh, this is terrible game. The warehog parts alone were enough to ruin the game for me.
Sonic is about speed and fun, not playing poorly designed brawler and stupid rail shooter levels.
Also, Sega raped my childhood.
so there.

The Sonic parts are the most incredible Sonic gaming in recent times... Yes, the Werehog parts don't fit, but like I said, it's only part of the game and if you level him up it's a breeze to get through.

As a huge Sonic fan, I will say this is great. No SA3, which they admitted it is not, but even I recognize Sonic 06 as bad.

Sonic was about exploration as much as he was ever about speed. The "press right to win" IMO is as big a betrayal as the stupid werehog.

What do you mean by press right to win?

Sonic was never about being on rails, which is what seems to be the case with the new ones because they go too fast to really make any decisions. If you think Sonic was only about speed I invite you to go play the originals... there are few points where you are ever running straight for a very long time, unlike the new ones when they took speed and roller coaster way too literally.

Here on CoG, people like to bash games before playing them.

PLEASE?!?!?!?!?!!!!! and the leveling up stuff...ugh, really?
It's probably why I haven't played a sonic game since sonic adventure on the dreamcast. I'm so tired of Sega trying to "fix" the formula, it wasn't broken.
In fact, here you go Sega, I will design the next sonic game for you.

Main characters: Sonic, Tails, Robotnik and maybe metal sonic and/or Knuckles.

Levels: several different themed leveled broken up into 2-3 parts with a boss battle and the end of the level. Levels can be designed so that multiple runs through the levels can yield different results based on which hero character is being used (for example Knuckles can break through walls and tails can fly to part of the levels that sonic can't reach). Multiple routes are a must.

Chaos emeralds: come up with an interesting way to collect them...no particular way...free form it Sega.

Perspective: 3D characters on a 2D environment. Plenty of great games nowadays do it and it works. Sonic's speed only seems to work on a 2D plane. Even the current 3D games are really on a 2D plane...sonic really doesn't have much 3D movement. Just make the game 2D and save yourself the hassle.

And that's it, perfect.
tah-dah!

you're welcome sega

I don't own Sonic Unleashed, but thats the impression from the demo that I get, and thats what Sonic Rush is like, and that is how Sonic 06 felt.

I played a bit of Unleashed before getting pissed at it because of all the lame warehog shit and sent it back to gamefly.
Sonic levels are on Rails.
Warehog levels are a sloppy, embarassing brawler.
Then, there are DDR/Rock Band/QTE-type levels where you have to put the right combo of buttons to win the levels.
plus there's a stupid RPG element where you have to level your character.
and that's Sonic unleashed in a nutshell

The Sonic levels are on rails if you don't explore, just like in every other Sonic game. The QTE levels were just little missions in-between the actual levels. The RPG part is cool, and all it is is upgrading your character at any time in the menu, which makes the werehog parts more enjoyable. The werehog parts, if looked at outside the normal Sonic realm, is a fun God of War/Prince of Persia Hybrid which each section introduces some neat puzzle elements to go with the abilities you earn. The game is deep (as far as platformers go). You have to put time and thought into it.

You have to put time and thought into it.I guess...maybe it's just the game doesn't come off nearly as deep as you are making it out to be.
