Okay, so i've lived in Seattle for about 8 months now, and at least 5 times a week I had walked by the Utilikilts store on 1st. I had never been in there even once, though I really wanted to...I think I was scared to go alone. Well a buddy of mine who had recently moved into Seattle convinced me to go check it out a few days ago. Now, I knew these things were kind of expensive, so I was a little hesitant before going in, but my god...I didnt expect them to be so damn comfortable. I toally bought myself one and wore it out of the store. I'm probably going to buy myself a 2nd pair.
So my question is this...have any of you ever seen a Utilikilt and if you have, how do you feel about the whole urban kilt style?

150 dollars for a kilt? No thanks.

There were plenty of Enforcers at PAX that were wearing these last year. I didn't know they cost $150 though, so I doubt I'll get one.

As a girl with a fondness for guys in kilts, I heartily approve, but are you gonna wear them the traditional way? Inquiring minds need to know.

Kilts REQUIRE to be worn commando, and I believe that's how a few of the Enforcers wore them.

I'm Irish with some Scottish, but the remaining English part of me would rather wear my boxers than a kilt. Sorry. If it's kilt weather, it's shorts weather.

wow I actually just looked them up earlier today to see if they had traditional tartans available. Unfortunately they don't. That being said, $150 is pretty reasonable for a kilt; a good traditional one seems to cost at least that or a bit more. But while a utilikilt seems pretty useful, I don't to buy a kilt unless I can get my tartan. Clan MacNab represent!

I got a kilt over the summer. I haven't worn it for a while because of how cold and wet it is, but as soon as spring comes I'll wear it. I got it for half off over the summer. $75 for a kilt just seems...right.
Excellent shit though. I love it. So comfortable. It's got such a style. And when the lady sold it to me, she said "You know where your kilt looks best, right?"
"What do you mean?"
"A kilt looks best lying at the side of your bed."
Yes. It does. I've checked.

QFT. If I wear a kilt, it's the clan tartan. I started playing the bagpipes when I was about 10. Joined the Seattle Scottish Boys Bagpipe Band a couple years later. Never wore anything under the kilt except my shoes, stockings and a knife.
Get a sporran, too. Handy little thing and your kilt doesn't look like a dress when you got it hanging in front of your crotch. Nice conversation starter, too! ;)

It's Sylvar in sad half-1337. Sylvar was the name of a favorite RP character and the username was made back in the day when I though 1337 was teh awesome. Times have changed, but it's still my default username.
And yes, kilts == hot, go try them out :)

Well, if you think it's too cold for a kilt, I guess it would be acceptable to wear a handknit penis cozy under them. :D

Or you could get a little beaver to keep it warm!

I've only seen one store in San Francisco that sells kilts. It's in the Castro district and they only have leather ones...

How do you sit? I mean, when you ride your motorcycle do you have to do it side saddle? ;)
But seriously, how?

Well, I have enough common sense not to wear my kilt on a motorcycle. I always wear proper safety gear. :p
As for sitting; I always just place my feet about shoulder width apart and let the front of my kilt and the sporran hang down in the middle. Every now and then someone gets a little surprise peek, but that's just part of the game. My wife is used to it! :D

Seems a little awkward to just be parading your beaver around in public....

I was at the store when I was in Seattle. I'm not a fan of kilts, and I almost bought one myself. They look cool as hell.

Another pro for you joey, I believe TK was giving out hugs to the kilt-wearers last year.:D

I work right next to Utilikilts, I love that they do an art exhibition on the first thursday of every month. (most of the buildings in that area are art gallery's and every first thursday there is a big art walk)

I think most of the out-of towners will be arriving on Thursday, so it might be something worth visting before Von's.

Wait? Aren't you an enforcer? Because according to the pre-reg site, and several threads in the PA PAX forum, the Show Floor opens at 10 am on Friday this year. And the convention closes at 7 pm on Sunday too. This info came from both the registration site, as well as the guy that runs the BYOC/PC Freeplay area and the guy that runs the CCST.
