View Full Version : Nvidia Scaling Woes

I hooked up my PC to the Plasma and have been having nothing but problems trying to get 1080p to display properly. I have come down to it being that the display is scaling the image for some reason, thus stretching out my 1920x1080 resolution past the tv's boundaries. Now if I try to use the Resize HDTV desktop option, it resizes it right, but then the resolution changes to 1824x1028.
Anyone else having these problems? It seems like the scaling options are all grey'd out and I can't switch between them. By the look of the nvidia help forums, this has happened to several people yet I couldn't come across a solution.
Running a GTX 260 with the current 182.06 drivers.

Are there limits on your TV's resolution? I know on my 40'' LCD T.V. it will only display certain resolutions.

Manual says it supports a wide variety of 1080p resolutions and it does apply, it's just too big for the screen.
I know the panel is 1080p and the PS3 has no problems running as such. I'm pretty sure this is an HDCP and/or a scaling issue of sorts.

Yah I wasn't thinking that yes you were getting a display just not the right one. I can't think of anything, don't have much experience with this sort of thing.

My Sony DLP is 1920x1080. Hooking up my HTPC to it though meant that I had to scale the image down manually. The Intel software package has an option for me to press '+' or '-' to reduce or "en-biggen" it...not the best solution, but it works and it doesn't seem to change the resolution (still says 1920x1080) unlike another method I used which did seem to reduce the resolution. (though, I pretty much know that Intel is lying to me about the resolution choice).
Again, this really comes down to the tv just as much as the video card. I hook the same HTPC up to an LG LCD and it instantly shows 1920x1080 without any overscan issues.

Change the refresh rate until it is scaled properly at 1080p.It is most likely 59 when it should be 60 or vice-versa.

Or use PowerStrip to force a specific resolution. (at least, last time I used PowerStrip it did that)

It does indeed still do that. However, I haven't found a need for it in quite some time.
Try a different driver. Wiggle the wires

Oh, it's also worth asking, are you using VGA, DVI, or HDMI?
I know a lot of HDTVs won't go 1080p over VGA.

I'm going from DVI to HDMI.
Tried the newest drivers and one back with no luck. However, I moved my PC back into my room and once I hooked it up to my regular monitor, the scaling section was no longer greyed out and I switched it to "DO NOT SCALE". I'll try lugging it back out to the TV again and see if it will stay that way once I hook it up, or if it will just revert back to what it was doing before. If it does, I'll give this powerstrip a shot. I know Violent was mentioning it to me during TF2 night.
One thing I've found about nvidia and the scaling options part is that it's quite picky what resolution you're at when you try and apply any settings. Same goes for making custom resolutions too. I found out that the scaling option didn't stick and reverted back to 'use display' when I attempted a changed while in my panel's native resolution of 1920x1080. The solution I found was to change the current resolution to something more standard, such as 1024x768. After I did that, I could apply any scaling options and it was kept, even if I went back to 1920x1080 afterwards.
I've also seen some occurences of the scaling options being grayed while I was in native/maximum supported resolution only, the options were available in any other resolution.

Figured I would just bump this thread instead of making a new one, but now I have issues displaying my old PC onto the new plasma.
It's a rig with an X800GT (ATI) and I get an even weirder thing that happens. Instead of displaying 1080p like it should, it looks like its trying to make 2 desktops on the same screen. On the right side it starts to display the left side of the desktop again.
Likewise, if I switch to 720p, it only displays the one desktop but it's still stretched out.
This is really starting to annoy me. It appears somewhere it's getting scaled or distorting, but I can't figure out how to stop it. PLEASE COG HELP!

It's kind of hard to help considering how model-specific scaling on HDTVs is. Are you using HDMI/DVI and 1:1 picture display?

Using a DVI>HDMI adapter... second part I dont understand.
HDTV is a 42'' Panasonic Plasma 1080p.
