Our newest episode is locked and loaded behind this link (http://ingamechat.net/audio/IGC20090217.mp3).

You’ll forgive us for spending a little time here examining games and gameplay that most of you will have long since have gotten over. I have no personal history with the God of War series; the PS2 having already become a part of my past by the time of the first game’s release. In fact, Scott is the only host to have played either of the games, and as a consequence they’ve never been a part of our usual dialogue.

I’d like to say that I was compelled to start playing the games because of their reputation or on a recommendation, but it has everything to do with the recently extended teaser trailer, and the guilt I will certainly feel at having been out of touch with a clearly energetic franchise when the third game makes the scene. There’s no chance I won’t be clawing my way across that titan’s landscape, and I’d sure as hell like to know what’s going on when I do.

We’re also delivering a very special portion of an otherwise unremarkable episode today. Jeremy has apparently decided to spawn once again, and since we’re pretty fond of him we can only be happy that he’s decided to extend his own franchise even further. Congratulations are also in order for the little lady, since we’re pretty sure she’s going to play a significant part in this process. Bummer about PAX, though, Becky. Maybe next year.

Strax...

Just don't do what Activision is doing with Guitar Hero and making 3 of them a year.

I played 1 & 2 on my PS3 - I'm taking it you don't have one of the early models? Too bad that backwards compatibility didn't last beyond the initial iterations of the hardware :(

EDIT: Jayve to the rescue! Here's what you need, Herr Fishbang!

You guys talking about Jumpgate Evolution all the time reminds me of my time in the first Jumpgate. It was the first ever MMO experience I've had and it was just awesome, even when there weren't many people playing it. That made it some kind of a big....family of some sort. You probably knew a lot of the community after a few months. Lots of good guys I've met there.

In fact, it was the first game I knew where you've had statistics from the game on a simple website (named JOSSH). You know, stuff like corporations, member numbers, pilot statistics about kills/deaths, medals you've earned (which was a huge deal for me, seeing those medals on my personal pilot page), etc. etc.. It was a completely new experience playing with other people. And in SPACE! Okay, PSO on the Dreamcast should be mentioned here, but was it in SPACE? In a SPACESHIP? No!

Glorious nights I had with this little gem and the learning experience was a lot like Eve but, well, on a far smaller scale. Still, no manual, a few threads on a broken forum on a broken website. Other than that, you were on your own and crashing your little spaceship into the hull of a spacestation at docking was the name of the game. I don't know how a real spaceship handles but the controls felt very....realish, so, you needed a lot of time accelerating and even worse a lot of time breaking. And if you haven't slowed down the right way (turn your ship around precisely 180 degrees and hit the pedals), you could've gone all over the place with lateral forces. Even worse when you've had one of those Tows which were the equivalent to industrial ships from Eve. Think about a real life ship container with two tiny thrusters on the back. They needed some many kilometers to break to zero acceleration. Docking with these things were a pain in the ass.

But still, when you've successfully transported your full Tow through dangerous space AND docked successfully, the feeling was priceless.

And then it died (well, service was suspended everywhere but in the US) and we had to wait many many years for Eve to come out and those Eve trailers looked soooo good!

I hope Jumpgate Evolution holds up to the expectations I have about it. It probably won't because Jumpgate has a very big place in my heart, being the first MMO I've ever played. Damn, please, be good.

The conversation about kids was great, had me smiling, and I don't even like kids at all =d

Try looking up EVE-University, I haven't been a member but they're dedicated to teaching new players the game and they have PVP classes and stuff, they're supposedly really good

(btw, random really well made EVE trailer thing) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ub0YaZoTvfI) watch in HD

Haven't listened to the episode yet, but needed to share this with somebody (I'm sure it'll get a newspost soon, if it hasn't already): Bethesda released a few screenshots (http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/44877/Fallout-3-The-Pitt-Screenshots) of the upcoming Fallout 3 DLC "The Pitt" today.

As a Pittsburgher, I know this bridge. It is entirely likely that tomorrow I will drive across this bridge.

Day one purchase. :D

If you liked the new Half-life fan movie, you'd like Clear Skies (http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=783871). It's an EVE+Source engine fan short, and it's awesome.

BTW, I haven't finished listening to the episode yet, so hopefully you didn't mention this.

Why don't you guys get special front-page treatment? I sometimes miss the post for a while.

Hey, thanks for talking about how awful X-Blades is NOW. I was THIS close to picking it up with my store credit today, but my crap sense was tingling (despite how much James had been ranting about it in the weeks past) and the fact it was selling for $69 was a definate no-buy for me.

I did come close for a second though...

We like to keep everything in its place. When you come to these forums, you have access to ALL of our episodes and the discussion of each. Putting it on the front page mixes it in with news and everything else causing it to get lost in the shuffle there.

Spig...buddy...I'd have probably sent you $60 out of guilt had you bought that goddamn thing.

Thankfully the front of the box and the awful, awful title screamed "THIS IS CRAP!" (plus I have it on my rental queue) and there was no way I'd pay $69 for something like this. I'd have a hard time paying $69 for Fallout 3...

Everything's a Gun sounds awesome. Get that up on XBLA already. Maybe you mentioned it but I missed it, are we going for an FPS or third person shooter? Are the characters humans or some sort of osmosis powered future cyborg? The cheetos cannon should probably be premium priced DLC, or at least a day one advantage from the collector's edition.

The Everything's a Gun pitch did sound great, but honestly, I think quote of the show for me went to Jeremy.

"It's been so long since I've flown a spaceship. Why don't I fly spaceships anymore?"

Such a wonderful combination of sad and hilarious delivery. I was cracking up in the car. :D

Just curious, have any of you guys tried Sins of a Solar Empire? It's not Colony Wars by any means, but it is cool.

Colony Wars fucking rocks, by the way. I spent hours and hours with the OPM demo disc and then bought all three games.

I don't have the PC for it....yet. But I have mentioned it to James during a few episodes. Plus, we interviewed the brothers behind that game almost a year ago when it released.

I got my first time look at it during PAX 08 and damn....it sure was pretty.

I played it for a little bit. I loved it, but the AI kept handing my ass to me. :(

I'm still in the midst of listening to the episode but I'm in the baby news part. Regarding having a boy or having a girl, here's a bit of wisdom that was handed down to me from a co-worker of mine just before I had my first child.

She said, "If you have a boy, you only have to worry about his penis. If you have a girl, you have to worry about every other penis in the world..."

Truer words were never spoken. And of course, I have a boy and a girl, so I'm going to be gray by the time I'm 34 (which isn't far off...)

Oh, and Eidos never sent me anything when I named my kid Garrett. Grr... Nor did Edward James Almos swing by after I named my daughter Kara... Double grr...

I just mean a little blurb that redirects here and is comment locked, kinda like what's done with most of the In-House Content stuff. But it's cool if you just want to keep everything here, though, not a big deal. :)

Congrats to Jeremy, by the way! I actually got much more game time when all my son did was drool and sit in his little rocker thing (because he couldn't do anything else); now I have to be careful what I play when he's around, if I even get the chance to turm my Xbox on, that is.

Oh, and could you say the names of stuff when you talk about it? Half the time I have no idea what you're talking about. :o (Has more to do with non-game material)

You have to get Sins when you get a new PC. It is fantastic. Definitely my favorite game of last year. :)

I think the last time I flew a spaceship was X-Wing Alliance, which came out in 1999, and which I probably last played around 2003. Actually, I really miss TIE Fighter, which I haven't been able to play since I gave up on dual-booting XP and ME. I'm actually looking to get a new computer in the near future: does Vista support old-ass Win95 games better than XP?
