All right, that's it. I'm tired of my handle, I've had it for years and haven't changed it because I literally could not think of anything better. Now that Left 4 Dead is out an people are constantly screaming "HUNTER!" around me I'm done. I'm tired of the confusion and I need something new. I am begging the community to help me think of a new handle. Ask me whatever questions you would like about my personality, interests or whatever. I need something new, cool, and unique.
Now some things about me.
Interests: Books, movies, martial arts, gadgets, computers, art, games (duh), comics
Favorite Super Hero: Batman (which is funny because in general, I prefer Marvel)
Favorite book: The Hobbit
Favorite movie: Ehhh, that's tough, probably Fight Club
Favorite TV shows: Avatar: The Last Airbender, Battlestar Galactica, Doctor Who (new series), Torchwood, Firefly
Favorite games: Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Chrono Trigger and Cross, Final Fantasy 6 & 7
And last but not least here is a pick from about 2 or 3 years ago. I don't really look much different except my hair is now buzzed short all over. in stead of spikey in the front and MAYBE a little thinner but I doubt it. The lovely lady is my wonderful wife.

Riley?... well, who'd want to be named for him?
Maggy?... nope, too awesome for anyone but our own gnome.
...How about DreamSpider?
Seriously, I once haloed against a dude named Dreamspider. He owned everyone without even trying, and that was just on account of his badass name alone.

Holbyta?
The above suggestion comes from a memory that I'm sure has no connection to the real world. Anyway... in my memory, someone or something, referring to a Hobbit (or maybe The Hobbit, Bilbo Baggins himself) says something Master Holbyta. Theres definitely an L in there, although the "yta" part is not pronounced like biter, more like picture (but without the C sound of course).
Sorry, its just a completely random memory, I have no idea where it comes from or if it has any connection to JRR Tolkiens actual work, but seeing your favourite book jogged that particular piece of memory.

I was once in a similar situation, since everyone's default assumption is that I am named after some guy in the Middle East. I couldn't think of anything better, and now I can use it to filter out who I know and who I haven't really talked to much. :)

I totally agree, sadly I still haven't found a name that really suits me. I've been racking my brains for a while now only to come up empty every time. Hopefully I will see something here that I think is perfect or inspires me. We shall see. Either way this is fun seeing the silly stuff people come up with.

I wanted something that reflected my enlightened Zen aspect, but I didn't want people to think that it meant I was an easy target in the prison showers.
Maybe I should be asking people HOW they came up with their names? Anyone have an interesting story?
Sort of. My first "career" job was in 1995, when the World Wide Web was still brand new and full-page splash pages were THE WAY to make a website attractive. We had no idea what we were doing, but we were some of the first ones doing it.
I worked under a very dynamic individual, who, only eight years before, had been released from prison after auto-theft (joyride) charges. He had been a gang member and had the finger-crown tattoos to show for it. After prison, he decided to reinvent himself and use his charisma and street smarts to create a legitimate living for himself and the daughter he discovered he had from a previous girlfriend, who was now a crackhead (the mom, not the kid).
Anyway... he and I clicked, as I had my own dark days behind me (although nowhere near as bad as his), and on February 1996, Quake Test (qtest) came out and our whole office started playing multiplayer Quake. I needed a handle, and my buddy said I reminded him both physically and personality-wise of his old gang buddy, whose name also happened to be Eric. His street name was Bone.
And that's how I came to be named after a gang member who I never met.

In college back in the 90's, I had a brilliant computer professor who had a thick Korean accent. Most of the time it was easy enough to interpret... except when he started talking about the "arfa-hat". After several classes and references, someone finally raised his hand and asked, "what is 'arfa-hat'?" He drew the symbol (sans heart) that I use as my avatar. He was trying to say "alpha hat" meaning, "the alpha vector". Our inability to interpret what he said amused us all for quite awhile.
After I graduated, I had been using other handles, until I remembered about that incident. I figured it would be a subtle way of seeing if I'd bump into old classmates, who would recognize the name and say hi and such.
Well, I've never bumped into anyone who recognizes the name, and almost everyone assumes my name is "Araphat", but at least it still amuses me. :)

Back in school, we used to walk past this blue van every morning that had a painting of a badger holding a shotgun in one hand and a plate with a burger in the other. I started drawing cartoons in my school books based on this peculiar premise and eventually I took the moniker for gaming.
My handle is usually EvilTheBadger since Badger is taken more often than not, which is just an homage to Evil the Cat from Earthworm Jim.

My story's pretty lame. Back in high school I was trying to come up with a name for a Necromancer I was making in EQ. My favorite author at the time was Dennis L. McKiernan who, in his books, occasionally had a Necromancer named Ydral or his son, Stoke, as the villain. Well, in my history class we had been talking about a culture who tradition was to take the father's first name and make it the son's surname. And thus the story of Stoke Ydral. I only add the Ydral when Stoke is already taken though.

When I first moved to Japan years back, I worked on a semi tropical island in the middle of the Pacific ocean. The weather there was crazy and seasonal shifts would simply happen one day BAM! cold-hot and vice-versa. naturally these dramatic changes weren't too great for people's health and one of the weirdest side-affects was casing abrasions and cuts on the skin.
Back in the day, in their infinite wisdom, the folks on the island decided that the cause of these little wounds was small, invisible weasels, carrying sugar cane cutting scythes. They stuck the two words together, Kama: Scythe and Itachi: Weasel to describe them.
When I heard this, I had a very vivid and comedic image in my head, somewhat reminiscent of the evil weasels in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
And that's how I saved Christmas.

I made mine while at a site called "Cryptozoology.com". It was a pretty cool site, and everyone, without exception, used only scientific procedure and reliable research to support their arguments. One guy even did field research and has written several good books (He's got a PhD in Biology and a lesser degree in Zoology).
Anyway, up until then, I had been using "CaseyKen" as my handle everywhere, usually since all the good names were take, so I just used the first name plus the first three letters of my last (a formula I use for my gamertag for the same reasons). This time, however, I wanted to be unique, but I just couldn't come up with anything good and said, "to hell with it, I'll make something up at random" and this is what I came up with.

One good way I find is to find a game that generates a lot of random names, I often use ogre battle when I need names for characters and such as you starting army gives a bunch of names to use, not always that unique of course. I found better source recently, dwarf fortress. Start up a world and then look at legends where you would start up a game go to the character list and you get a list with thousand if not 10's of thousands of names. Many of them awesome. Maybe that will give you some inspiration or you find one you really like.
