There were days when someone would ask "which antivirus is best for the PC" and the answer would be "A Mac".
If those days were cowboys then I have to ask, "Where have all the cowboys gone?"

I just told my Dad that Macs don't really get viruses, but he won't let go of the idea. Sheesh.

I'm not giving you shit. I'm not giving you help either. Consider me the dash in the sentence.

Ah, gotcha. I'll keep an eye out for ya but not sure of any off the top of my head.

Personally, I use NOD32. Small memory footprint, but good protection.

clamXav is probably the best one I can think of. Note: there are no Mac viruses at this point, though if you are working with risky windows files you can still pass them to others. There are however, a handful of Mac trojans around, though thats more user error than anything.
Most Mac users don't really need to run anti-virus though.

Yeah I was wondering if anyone had any Mac virus experiences to share? Maybe it's just my usage patterns but in 15 years on PC I only ever had 2 virus/trojan experiences, and none in 5 years on the Mac. Up until now at least I've pretty much assumed it's not something I have to worry about (on Mac that is).

Second clamXav for the same reason. It's mostly a courtesy to Windows users.

I'll third the recommendation of clamXAV.
Although, if he feels that a "Free" program can't possibly be as secure as a pay one, there's always Intego VirusBarrier or Norton Anti-Virus.

Truth. Unless you are on a network with Windows machines you don't really need any anti virus.
