You read the topic! What is the game you never thought you would finish?

I never thought I would have finished KOTOR or Bioshock...but the story in both was so addicting and everything moved at a nice pace.

KOTOR II. The story didn't seem to be going anywhere. I thought I probably had a ton more to do, and didn't think I was compelled enough to get there. I kept telling myself "one more planet, to see if it all starts coming together", but I was losing hope. Then the ending just showed up seemingly at random, and it was quite a surprise... to put it charitably.

I never thought I would finish COD2. I got it for 360 right around the time the console came out, but barely spent any time with it. Two years later, I put it in for shits and giggles and ended up playing through it in a couple of days. Good times.

I'm still trying to go though KOTOR II. It's not completely bad but I still like KOTOR I better.

Ninja Gaiden. Jesus fuck that game was hard, but I did finish it eventually.

I must of played the first two levels of KOTOR 2 about 20 times before I actually pushed through the shit that they were to eventually finish it. I didn't expect that to ever happen.

Bionic Commando, oddly enough. Took me a long time to go back to it and beat its ass when I was a kid.

Saint's Row. I played through the first half, then promptly set it down for about a year.

Picked it up again, played through another quarter of it, then it got set down for about another six months.

Finally, I picked it back up again and finished it. Now I can't wait for SR2. :D

Ninja Gaiden. Jesus fuck that game was hard, but I did finish it eventually.I'm with you, that game was pure, condensed frustration. The odd thing was, it never really felt cheap. Hard as frickin' nails, but not cheap.

More recently, I really thought I was going to give up on the final Vader battle in the Force Unleashed. Mechanized bastard was blocking everything I threw at him, then pounding me for MASSIVE DAMAGE. Ugh.

That was one of those games where my wife asks, "Are you having fun? Seriously?" :o

Xenogears. Not because it was a bad game, it's one of my favorite games of all time. I bought it the day it came out, played the hell of it, and made it all the way to Disc 2 (near the end of the game). I was at about 65 hours, then one day, I come home from work, go to load up my save, and I get an error. I had been stupid enough to use one of those double capacity third party PS1 memory cards, and my save had become corrupted.

I never thought I'd go back and play all the way through again, as much as I'd loved the game. Of course, I've played through it to the end twice since then, but still, at the time, I never thought I'd get back to it.

Final Fantasy 7 was one of the longest played games in my collection, the other one I thought I'd never be able to get through was Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced (gba) - 72hrs to complete.

Most games I buy I wonder if I will ever finish. I have the WORST gamer ADD ever. It used to be really bad when I worked at a game store back in college (some 4+ years ago). I still have games from then that I haven't finished. About six months ago, I made a list of all my games and I am avoiding buying anything new until I finish those games. The exception will be Fallout 3.

Right now I am working through Fallout 1 and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. LoZ: OoT has some awesome music.

Ikaruga is the only game I can think of off of the top of my head that I was really surprised when I completed it.

Me and a friend were playing coop, and we were destroying to the point that we reset the game once in the last stage because we though we had set it to infinite continues or something. The next attempt we beat it.

Final Fantasy V. I'd been through it twice and never finished it. I always lost interest near the end (a problem I have with many FF games). Finally, I picked up the re-release on the GBA not too long ago and finished it up for the first time.

I didn't miss much.

There must have been about 3 separate times I thought I had hit the ending of Grandia 2, only to find that there was more game to be played.

I never though I would get through the cheap as hell stage in Viewtiful Joe when you have to fight every boss again back to back. I think I only persevered out of what must be deep self loathing.

Funny one of the first games that would be mentioned is KOTOR. Definitely one of the games I played for a few hours, but then lost it's place when something newer came out. What then happened was that I was ill, so I sat down in front of this game and polished it off in one day, starting in the early morning and just plowing through it. Actually one of my favourite gaming moments ever :)

The other ones that come to mind are the GTA games. I dabbled with them on the PC while my friend had them on his PS2. Then, I finally got my PS2 and borrowed GTA 3 off him, then Vice City, then San Andreas, blowing through them. He's one of those great friends that always buys the newest games, then never plays them. He loves GTA, but never finishes them.

TurboTax! I hate that game! And just like Madden, they come out with a new updated version every year!

Might and Magic 6 had me going for months.

Psychonauts. Just couldn't get through the last boss before the Meat Circus (I assume) with a mouse and keyboard. I've since picked up a Xbox360 controller for my PC but haven't had a chance to get back to it.

Morrowind took forever, but kept me interested.

Grim Fandango frustrated me with some of the early puzzles. Must have started that at least 6 times. I'm at the cat races now, but busy with 4 or 9 new games at the moment.

For me it was the Xenosaga trilogy. I picked up all three games at the same time and just played through them back to back to back. Playing through three RPGs like that was quite a feat with my attention span. It was the story that kept me going. Especially since the second game wasn't that great gameplay-wise.

Beating Quake 3 on Nightmare was something I wasn't sure if I could do, but I pulled it out.

Forza 2, finally got gold on every race... that was pure willpower/time sink.

Ace Combat 6, I played it through once and returned it, but got the urge again and played the shit out of it until I got all the medals. That was a big accomplishment for me.

Ninja Gaiden. I got about 2/3 through and was so frustrated I decided I would just quit the next time I died and pack the game away forever. And then I beat the last third straight through on the first try. Rage must make me better at video games.
