Thought I’d throw this out since I’ve been spending the last couple of days trying to find a solution before binning the game and if I can at least help someone else from doing the same then my work here is done. :D

I’m on Vista 64bit so I’m not sure if this applies to 32bit but it’s definitely showing up on both XP and Vista. The error is happening after install (even after running installs as Administrator or emulating XP or installing on different drives/folders, the list goes on /fail) when trying to run warpatch.exe and opens an error window saying the following:
“The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you’re running. Check your computer’s system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher.”

I finally found out that the problem appears to be for AU/NZ retail copies of the game according to YouGamers (”http://www.yougamers.com/news/20775_warhammer_online_retail_dvd_issues/”) and EB seem to be hosting a fix for it here (”http://www.ebgames.com.au/warhammerfix/”). I would assume EB got sick of people returning the game and just posted a non-corrupted version for people, since it’s not really like them to be pro-active about things like this, considering people can set up profiles without the game installed the copies would obviously need to be turfed.

Haven’t had a chance to check it out yet but will give it a go when I get home after I reinstall again. It seems people have commented that it works so that’s a good sign. Will hopefully jump on and have a bash some time soon, any suggestions for what I should play, what are realm selections like?

Yeah, how great was that? I installed it twice not realising it was a problem with the actual press. It took me an hour of Googling before I found out what the hell was going on.

My dad has tried every Order class and seems to swear by Bright Mage, Witch Hunter, Archmage and his Warrior Priest gets a good run. He absolutely detested the White Lion and the Swordmaster. I've personally gone for Witch Hunter and find him to be awesome in RvR (especially on a good group with a healer by your side). Otherwise it depends on how you want to play, the best tanks (or most popular) on our server seems to be the Iron Breaker (which a friend of ours is playing). Most popular DPS seems to be the Witch Hunter, Bright Mage for nuker, and Arch Mage for healing. Dunno about the Destruction side, haven't played them yet.

Just go crazy and try them all, you get 10 character slots per server from memory. Just note that you can only play as one of Order or Destruction on a server, so if you want to try the other side, you gotta choose a new server.

As for realm selection, Core = PvE (with RvR battle points), RvR (PvP anything goes) and I think Core-RP. I'd recommend choosing a medium-to-low population server if you don't like queuing to log on, though my friend on a high-pop server says the wait isn't too bad (15-30m most nights).

Hope that was helpful!

I’ve tried not to get into any of the hype around it, just that I actually have a great deal of respect for the, and I’m not sure if it’s the dev’s or not, but the guys that are looking after the game. They actually show that they’re players and do/say things as if they’re like “us”, more to the point, actually showing that they care rather than only going for the money side of things. If the same thing happens that happened with WoW, even if you choose the unpopulated servers I’m sure they’ll fill up, just like the Oceania servers did. Although we still have the advantage of being on the other side of the world to NA players so hopefully that makes some difference. Thanks for the advice though, I’ll load a bunch up and run around like the noob I am and do lots of stupid stuff and yay! :D
