Bungie and Microsoft has revealed that the upcoming Halo 3: ODST - the standalone expansion to Halo 3 - will ship with all of the Halo 3 maps on the disc. And that includes the ones which are paid DLC for the mothership Halo 3 All shipping maps: The Heroic Map Pack, The Legendary Map Pack, Cold Storage, The Mythic Map Pack, and three brand new exclusive maps are included. Halo 3: ODST, formerly Halo 3: Recon, puts you in the shoes (well, not shoes exactly, maybe tactical space boots?) of an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper. Even though it's called 'Halo 3' the game itself is set during the timeline of Halo 2. Instead of playing as the most badass Spartan warrior the world has ever seen, you instead play as a more or less normal soldier. Gone are the advanced shield and armor, as well as the Chief's enhanced strength and reflexes. The game will be a bit more tactical and incorporate a lot more stealth elements.

Halo 3: ODST is tentatively scheduled for a Fall release.

Help me to understand. Why would anyone (especially Halo fans that are the most likely to buy Halo: ODST) buy the Mythic Map Pack now?

I think, as with most things, its a timing thing. If they want it early and to play it they get it now(if it is available I don't play much multi Halo), otherwise they wait.

So after ODST comes out the original Halo 3 will be rendered obsolete right? Unless of course you want to go through the campaign again....but most people seem to play Halo for multiplayer anyway.

Wait, so you can play the maps against Halo 3 players? I guess they're trying to make up for the 4 hours of gameplay.

Because the gameplay in ODST and 3 are a little different? Maybe there are people who want the Mythic pack who don't plan on getting ODST? It felt a little odd to me as well.

EDIT - and as of now there won't be cross game play. You either play ODST or Halo 3.

I am pretty exited to see what Bungie can do for the single player, now that they are not "tied", so to speak, to Master Chief & traditional Halo gameplay. The Halo series were not for me, but I can see that Bungie is a top quality developer.

What? When? How? Isn't the multiplayer in ODST identical to the MP in Halo 3?

Quick question, when is the Mythic map pack being released? I could find no release date, and the words "early access" to the Mythic map pack when you buy Halo 3: ODST kinda made me think it would be winter 2009, as in November or December.

Anyone have any idea?

What? When? How? Isn't the multiplayer in ODST identical to the MP in Halo 3?IN Halo 3 you play as a Spartan in MP (or the alien equivalent). In ODST you play as a more normal soldier. No recharging shields, no fancy armor, no enhanced speed and strength. The game will play a little differently than Halo 3.

I'd guess it's slightly different because as an ODST trooper, you don't have the recharging shields or melee power that you would as a Spartan.

As a pretty casual player, MS just lost a Halo 3 Mythic Map pack sale from me with this announcement. I would've paid 800 points to get new Halo 3 maps, but if the Mythic Pack will be free with ODST, then I see no reason to pay when the hardcore multiplayer folks will all switch to the new title anyway.

From my understanding the singleplayer campaign is completely different from halo 3, however the multiplayer is exactly the same.

Works for me, I would never have gotten around to getting the packs, yes im that lazy, but now I will have them.

I know, but I thought the multiplayer in ODST would be the same multiplayer as in Halo 3. As in identical. As in no ODST gameplay, but pure Halo 3 gameplay.

If they are planning on using the ODST style of gameplay in the multiplayer, then my interest goes up quite a bit.

Edit: As in this. (http://www.videogamer.com/news/15-10-2008-9661.html) And this. (http://xbox360.gamespy.com/xbox-360/bungie-project-2/946337p1.html)
This multiplayer content is "Halo 3" in nature, meaning you will not be playing Slayer, CTF or other traditional favorites as anything other than a Spartan or Elite.

If this is true then I'm going to be waiting until it hits the budget bin to pick up.

Is this going to be expansion priced, as in $20-$30?

Bungie said they're presenting it to MS as a "leaner more economical" experience. If it did get "budget priced" it would probably be $39.99, which is what I've seen for Viva Pinata: TIP and Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts.

Of course, it's MS and Halo, so I expect it to be full price no matter what. :D

I'm sure it will be at least $40, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it at $60, even though it's being billed as an "expansion".

Maybe this release will get me back in Halo. I never really played much of the Halo MP beyond some free for all and MP split screen with a buddy. I have always secretly desired to play some 4 player Halo co-op.

I agree.

If it's Bungie and in the Halo universe what could go wrong? I hope it has different multiplayer. I'd like to see Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon style gameplay set in the Halo universe. I want to see a game mode where one guy is a Spartan and the rest of the humans are trying to kill him. They need to incorporate some interesting new ideas since it's a different game.

Of course this game could be TRASH but i'm getting it. I must support Bungie at all costs!

Same here. I'm buying the maps and ODST, and I could care less how much it costs.

I just played some Halo 3 last night... I have no idea why the fuck I've been away from it so long. That's a mistake I am going to fix quickly.

Dam, I know right, I picked up another 360 and for some reason no matter what games I have all I feel like playing is some Halo3. In fact I think thats what I am going to do today.

I'm going to hold out for ODST, I think, since it has three exclusive maps.

It's nice to want things.
