I'm thinking of picking up a gamepad for playing burnout paradise (I don't have a xbox or PS3) does anyone have any suggestions?
These (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/subclass.asp?logon=&langid=EN&catid=14262) are the ones available in store near me, as I don't think walmart will have anything, are any of them a good choice?
I really, at this point anyways, only plan to use it for Burnout as I find the keyboard usable but clunky at times, especially after trying to keep up with Axion he clearly has finer control, which I hope is due to the gamepad and not just my lack of skill. My hands are also in weird position and I often end up shifting me hands ever so slightly which lead me to messing up the controls (e.g. hitting a button that does nothing instead of break).
Well enough rambling, as mentioned above any suggestions?

If you've got a PS2 controller laying around, you can buy usb adaptors for them; it's what I use, and it works great for paradise.

No, will not work for me, never owned a PS2. I've never been much of a console gamer since the N64.

If you could find a second hand one of the small controls for the origianl Xbox that might be a good idea. At least if you don't mind cutting a few wires. They were USB but with a funny shaped conector, so if you replace the connector with standard USB plug (or split it between the two) you can use that. Though it might have issues in Vista...if you have Vista, that is.
All of last gen's console controllers absolutly piss all over any of Logitech's ones (I've got the first one on the page you linked.) If you don't want to dig one of those up second hand (Well you can get a [url=http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-113-49-en-70-2ola.html]GC control new[url] and a ->PC adapter...) then I'd say go for the 360 control. I'm not a fan of the shape (I know, lynch me) but it has vastly superior analogue sticks to the others.

I have one of these: http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10053320&catid=&test_cookie=1
I paid a lot less for it though ($20 USD, not sure how that converts but seems like it'd be less than that, though that was on a "Best Buy fuckup discount", normally it's $30).
I'm happy as a clam with it, had it for a long time now and never really had any complaints about it. The square wells for the sticks are a bit of an odd decision, but it has rarely affected my gameplay.

Haven't used the wireless controller for the PC, but I find my wired 360 controller works great for whatever I want. Worked well enough on emulators. Though the Dpad is wonky enough that if you ever want to play a fighter... probably not gonna happen.

I second. I picked one of these up at launch and I use it all the time. Some games are actually better for it. They are usually the ones that were console originals that were ported to the PC. It really helps keep everything unified and Console to PC ports tend to have shitty controls so this really makes it worth while.

I'm going to have to agree with this one. The only other joystick that has come close for me has been the old Logitech twin stick controller.
The 360 controller plus wireless adapter can be found pretty cheaply these days on sale. I would suggest looking for that deal.

I'll put a vote in for the Logitech Rumblepad (2 I think). It's basically the wireless one in the link, but wired. I've had it for 3 years now and have never had any issues with it, the rumble is a must IMO especially for a game like Paradise.

Yeah, the Logitech Wireless Pads are the best.
Currently using one for that exact game. ;)
Well, one that was for my PS2 with an adapter like someone already pointed out.

I'll toss in with the others and say the 360 controller. I use the wired version for my PC, and aside from some issues with the D-Pad in emulators and the like, the controller works flawlessly.

Does something like that come with USB capability, or just 360? Or is the 360 USB anyways?

Actually Logitech makes a very good 360 wired pad, which probably works with the PC.

I didn't mean to come off as dissing your suggestion, I meant it sucks as a consumer. I agree that the 360 pad is awesome.

Get the 360 wired controller. It's amazing. You can probably pick up the 360 version of it for less than that PC version. Either that or get the wireless 360 controller with the wireless 360 pc hub.

360 wired.
I tried it one day and will never go back. Amazed at how well it works. I use so many emulators and various games both new and old and this works perfectly for all.

Dboy here is right. The controller works flawlessly and i'm for the most part a console gamer. It makes PC gaming so much easier.

I suppose I should of mentioned that I decided to pick up a 360 controller. I like where the left analog stick is located.

The default driver for the 360 controller has some issues with the triggers if you're running XP, from what I hear it's not a problem in Vista.
If you're running XP as I am, I recommend using XBCD (http://www.redcl0ud.com/xbcd.html)to remap the buttons.

I loved XBCD. Sadly, Vista 64 doesn't allow me to use unsigned drivers without going into a test mode. Which I'd rather not do.
Here's hoping Windows 7 goes back to allowing unsigned drivers!!!

You poor sucker.
How so, it was the same price or cheaper then anything else I could find that had what I wanted.
I'm running Vista on my laptop so I plugged it in and vista installed the drivers and it has been running perfectly since.

I've been really fiending to buy some of those flight stick peripherals again, but there just doesn't seem to be the games out there to play with them like there used to be. Alas, for the era of a glut of flight/space games.

Freespace 2 Open (http://www.fsoinstaller.com/). It's like they never stopped working on it.
