The white kills my eyes.

Too bad. We're working the template, but it's going to have a white or very light gray background.

While I did get used to the dark background, having a light colored background is so much easier for when I'm at work (which is where I post the most anyways).

Reading light text on a black background gets really hard on the eyes.
Heck, the default colors are actually just fine here. :)

Black text on white background is fine for me. If anything is tweaked, I say it's the blue, it looks a bit too default for me :P Maybe match some of the other colors in the sexy banner.

I do not mind the colors, but a light gray would be preferable over this white.

Let's leave Mike alone to come up with something first before we look out the pitchforks. Look at the banner, for criven's sake - trust the man!!

I haven't tweaked the forum colors at all yet. We've been developing this on an accelerated timeline, so our primary concern was getting the forum/user blogs, etc. up and running. Over the next few days you'll start seeing a lot of changes.
Besides: The background for everything you'd have to read is light blue, not white.

And just where would the fun be then, hmmm? ;)

I think a dark colour scheme option would be nice.

The lighter color schemes are nice when you're at work. There are no work apps that have a black background for me, so EvAv kinda stuck out a bit.

I'm ok with white, as long as you don't turn the text into blinding yellow.
I still have ISTEP test nightmares from high school about text coloring like that.

Can someone just make me pink? That would be an awesome design idea :)

Even though it has been stated that a dark theme is not planned, I shall still hope that one is developed in the future.
The light burns!!

That was one aspect of PiRi that I greatly appreciate: selectable themes.
On the topic of color: any news on user colors?

That was one aspect of PiRi that I greatly appreciate: selectable themes.Agreed. It would be great to have a theme with a light background, AND a theme with the dark background. And giving the users a choice seems very much in line with the "Community as a whole are the #1 priority" message you're selling. :-)

That would be great, and make everyone happy. Use white at work and black at home.
Less white would be excellent. It just makes the site easier to read and less visually jarring.

Reading light text on a black background gets really hard on the eyes.Being a programmer, I can definitely say that I think most people I know say the exact opposite. Remember that you're staring at a light bulb. Less light is better.
The lighter color schemes are nice when you're at work. There are no work apps that have a black background for me, so EvAv kinda stuck out a bit. That just means you have to find a way to rearrange your workspace so that people can't see your monitor unless you invite them to! Not that I've ever done that...
Also, the Multi-quote thing is freaking awesome.

Due to popular demand, I will be developing a darker theme as well. There is no timeline on it, but I imagine you won't have to wait too long.

Personally, I'd rather have something to go along with the colors of the banner up top. Purple/White/Orange.

Pastel. A nice, washed out look. I can't be the only one that doesn't like things that don't look like sidewalk chalk, right?
