I have yet to get an Acer monitor that didn't have dead pixels.
crazyD
10-05-2008, 12:17 PM
I love Newegg, but would never buy a monitor there. They have an 8 dead pixel return policy. I want to return it if it has one. I'll always pay a little extra for brick and mortar when it comes to monitors.
I'm sure there is a device on ebay you can by that kills pixels.

10-05-2008, 06:00 PM
I bought an Acer monitor from Newegg a few months ago and it had a couple of dead pixels. To be honest, though, I have no idea where they are anymore. I guess if I focused on them and thought about it all the time it could be an issue. Same thing happened with my DS...once I stopped constantly trying to find the dead pixels, I forgot they existed.

harle, could you go spam one of the post padding threads until you get to 25 posts? Then you can post a Daily Deal history to your blog so I can see 1 or 2 day old deals that might still apply.

How about Xbox Live Points? ;)
I doubt they'll have deals on those around, however.I may have found a deal!
Go to live.com
Search for "4000 xbox live points"
the first link should be to ebay with a "30% off with paypal if eligible"
get 4000 live points for around $35
Edit: Everyone should go to live.com and search for whatever item they want. if Ebay has it, there is a good chance that you can get 30% off the item. You can look at this thread (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=1044322) for more information.

Don't count out all vendors because of one bad experience.
Twice EVGA has offered me discounts for my video card via MIR and both times they produced the rebates in a very timely fashion. Take a MIR for what's it's worth, but most reputable vendors will take care/respond to their mail in rebates.

Can I suggest that you might want to duplicate the OP update as a new post as well? Most of the time when I am browsing, I am doing it from the User Control Panel and click on the "latest post" button of newly updated threads. It is inconvenient to get to this thread and then have to click again to see what the update is.
Not a big deal, but worth mentioning, I figured.

I am using the MX right now, it is a very nice mouse. The only downside to it, for me anyway, is the fact that it has no hot swap battery; but the battery life is quite good. I can go a week without a charge and even then I am only down to 30% or so.
It is comfortable, and while I find a few of the extras (side "wheel", home button) useless, it is definitely worth $40 if you are in the market for a new mouse.

Ive heard that the revolution is incredibly comfortable, but I do not know how well wireless mice would work for games (FPS in particular).
Edit: The reason why I ask is because I am currently building a gaming computer for a family member. I bought them a Logitech G5 because of all the positive reviews it had from gamers. No one mentioned the revolution (wireless) when recommending gaming mice.

I have not done a ton of gaming with it, mostly Sam & Max, Strong Bad, some Warhammer Online, maybe Stalker too. It is only 800 dpi, compared to the G5 which is 2000 I believe. It is not going to be quite as twitch, but as far as general gaming goes it is perfectly fine. I had a G7, which is basically the G5 but wireless, and only in rare instances have I noticed much of a difference while gaming.

Ahaha, I had a feeling my enthusiasm for sausage would come off as a little odd... but I honestly really do love sausage. I'm kind of overwhelmed by the low prices. It's like Pokemon, but instead of catching them, I want to buy them, and instead of Pokemon, it's sausage!

At first I thought this deal at finally made the "DotD" thread jump the shark (Waffles v. Pancakes still made IHOP somewhat relevant). But then I looked at those deals and decided to buy some cheese and sausage.
However, then I got to the shipping page. $13.99 for the cheapest shipping option for two items? That kind of elminates the deal itself. They also load up the gift baskets with mustards, crackers, apple butter and other cheaper ingredients. If you compare just what you are paying for the sausage and cheese itself, with shipping it comes to about $6 per pound. Not terrible, but not a fantastic deal either. I can do as well at my local grocery store where I can observe the quality and get fresher product.
The extra $10 on $75 makes it a somewhat better deal but I couldn't get it to work (do you need to have over $75 AFTER the discount? I couldn't get it to register either way). Even if I could have gotten it to work, I concluded that that is so much fucking cheese and sausage that I would be sick to death of it and eating it for months and months.
Bah. Perhaps I'm just a cheapskate, but no sausage and cheese for me, I guess.

I was going to buy 2, but I held off. Hopefully I can find another deal on XBL by February 2010.

$2.30 a month is pricey? I brought my lunch to work one more day than usual. XBL paid for!

For what I'm getting out of it? Yes. I get more value from buying lunch one day than using this. If it was actually $2.30 a month, and I could skip months if I don't use it, then I might be down. Unfortunately, this is $30 for a year, not $2.30 a month.

I agree with you, but I bought one anyway. I probably won't activate it right away...might wait until Live has one of those good XBLA discount deals or I have a desire to play online. I never do, but playing with some of my CoG friends wouldn't be a bad way to spend a weekend night. I have tons of 48 hour cards and a 1 month card from Microsoft when I got my 360 fixed after RRoD. I haven't used a single one because I just don't game online a lot. I wish Live Gold was more attractive to me (discounts, deals, etc, instead of just online gaming), but for $30, that's still a decent deal.
However, I might have to try the 8.99 Netflix package just to try out the streaming videos. I use RedBox kiosks for all my rental needs ($1 movies is awesome and I get a free one every Monday) but I might have to just do a free trial of Netflix to see how it works. I'd LOVE to be able to get rid of my digital cable, but I doubt my girlfriend would ever allow us to.
I almost bought 2. I know some hoarders that bought well over a dozen. Probably resellers. Assholes. Buying 2 will net you over 26 months of online service for the price of one game. Depends on how much it's worth to you, what kind of gamer you are. I'd love to see Microsoft offer a free basic package to people that would like to play their games online, but whatever. I'm a realist.

I always forget about how different people use their xboxes. I am ALWAYS on XBL playing a game with a friend, or watching Netflix stuff. My wife and I have been watching so many TV shows ever since NXE.
If you don't play multiplayer and don't use Netflix, then yeah, it's kindof a waste of money for you. But still, I'm the type that would pay $30 for a rapid share account, because there might be SOME point in the year that I'll use it.
My coworker just made a good point (for once!). I see XBOX Live as a utility. It's like having power, water, internet. If yer going to have it anways, might as well get it cheap from Buy.com! :)

It's only within the last year that I've had a gold account. Being so active on this forum and previous place lured me to play online. If it wasn't for this community I doubt I would have a gold account. But it's certainly worth it if you have a known community to play with.

CoG Deal of The Day | January 20th:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51raX%2BcY0GL._AA165_.jpg
Product: HBO's Band of Brothers on Blu-ray (http://www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox?tag=slickdeals)
Price: $34.99 w/ free shipping
Description: An impressively rigorous, unsentimental, and harrowing look at combat during World War II, Band of Brothers follows a company of airborne infantry--Easy Company--from boot camp through the end of the war. The brutality of training takes the audience by increments to the even greater brutality of the war; Easy Company took part in some of the most difficult battles, including the D-Day invasion of Normandy, the failed invasion of Holland, and the Battle of the Bulge, as well as the liberation of a concentration camp and the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest. But what makes these episodes work is not their historical sweep but their emphasis on riveting details (such as the rattle of a plane as the paratroopers wait to leap, or a flower in the buttonhole of a German soldier) and procedures (from military tactics to the workings of bureaucratic hierarchies). The scope of this miniseries (10 episodes, plus an actual documentary filled with interviews with surviving veterans) allows not only a thoroughness impossible in a two-hour movie, but also captures the wide range of responses to the stress and trauma of war--fear, cynicism, cruelty, compassion, and all-encompassing confusion. The result is a realism that makes both simplistic judgments and jingoistic enthusiasm impossible; the things these soldiers had to do are both terrible and understandable, and the psychological price they paid is made clear. The writing, directing, and acting are superb throughout. The cast is largely unknown, emphasizing the team of actors as a whole unit, much like the regiment; Damian Lewis and Ron Livingston play the central roles of two officers with grit and intelligence. Band of Brothers turns a vast historical event into a series of potent personal experiences; it's a deeply engrossing and affecting accomplishment. --Bret Fetzer

I have Samba. The reviews are correct... it's pretty much unplayable once you get to hard mode but if you want something fun to enjoy casually with friends / family, you could do a lot worse for 10 bucks.
