Never before Play-By-Post'ed, help?

So some of my friends are urging me to run a play-by-post campaign for them. I'm a pretty experienced GM for a wide variety of games but I've never played in or run a pbp before. Can anyone help me out with advice? I really don't even know where to start. How do the mechanics work? Where can I get it hosted? What can I do to make this fun and immersive for my players?
It's probably going to be either Exalted or Call of Cthullu, I haven't decided yet.

Suggestion: get them to move close to you and play irl ;)

Real suggestion: Do CoC so the whole game isn't spent rolling dice.

Yeah, I was leaning towards CoC. I hope I get a few more responses here though ^_^
