It's the day of the big game! If you're one of those who DOESN'T follow the trials and travails of the National Football League, come and take a gander at a gem of a game that will occupy your evening while everyone else gets drunk and eats too much chili and chicken wings.
Today's Turning The Spigot casts its malevolent gaze upon a simple little game that pits you against the very forces of gravity and physics.

Trials 2 is a racing game where you have to guide your motorcycle (with rider) through a series of harrowing obstacle courses. This is easier said than done.

This is one of the tamer examples of level design.
The game uses a very simple control scheme. Push the right arrow to move forward, the left arrow to move back (or stop) and up and down to move your rider around on the bike to change the center of gravity. This latter action is crucial on most of the runs as just sailing off of a jump will usually end up with your bike going into a spin and your rider eating the pavement.
Trials 2 has a gorgeous look to it. The tracks are lit with burning barrels and minimal light sources and really lend the feel of being in a dirty, abandoned warehouse to the game. Your rider also does the requisite rag-doll animations whenever he crashes, which will be often. If you felt that the motorcycle crashes in Burnout Paradise lacked a certain oomph, you'll more than make up for it with Trials 2. The game even has a Broken Bones meter!

You'll be doing this a lot.
There are 4 different modes in the game: Race against other player ghosts, go for the right number and type of flips on a given track, try for the longest wheelie and last, but not least, the dynamic run, where you have to complete several trials and environmental puzzles on your way through the track.

The team behind Trials 2 has just put a new game out on Steam called Monster Truck Nitro! which involves (shockingly) monster trucks. It's a little easier to play than Trials 2 as your rider isn't constantly killing himself. Check both Trials 2: SE (http://store.steampowered.com/app/16600/) and Monster Trucks Nitro (http://store.steampowered.com/app/16620/)out on Steam. Trials 2 is $9.99 and MTN is $9.99 for the weekend before going back up to $19.99.
