Maybe you're in the beta, maybe you're not. Eventually this thing will be released to the masses and here we will gather before the fight. Quake Live supports a full friends system that should come in handy when looking for a fight with someone you know. Here I will compile a list of everyone here who currently and eventually will have access. Be it to simply kill some time before the lunch break is over or to form a competitive clan, this will be our start. It's good to be back.

I remember when this game first came out. I bought it, a six pack of beer and I played all night. I still regret not getting the tin though. As far as Live goes, it's a perfect replication of the original.

Man I lost to Crash lol 20-19. I was kicking her ass until she started constantly doing the bunny hop crap that I need to get used to again. I hate bunny hopping all over the damn map but everyone seems to do it.

I beat her 20 to 10.... I guess it was decent... You can totally notice when it starts cranking up the difficulty.

I can understand why people got addicted to this game back in the day.

Is anyone playing this in Windows 7 with an ATI card? The game runs fine in a window but when I set it to full screen it gets very choppy and is basically unplayable.

Does it actually run in browser though, or does it pretty much install the game, but via a plugin of some kind instead that makes it more annoying to uninstall?

Man, I kinda suck at playing the regular modes, but put me in an instagib game and I can just settle into a rhythm. A gibbing rhythm.

I also noticed that the damage of the railgun is down significantly. I used to be able to one-shot people in the old Quake 3, but not anymore. It's kinda disappointing since the rail is usually my main weapon.

We better all play tonight, because some of these guys are just too much. Granted, Morangie was in the same server as me and held his own...

It's just insanely twitchy fast and the instagib leaves no room for error.

Have not tried to add a friend yet, but I did have a couple of issues last night. I found a browser restart seemed to do the trick.

I noticed that I'm able to see their profile from my stats screen but are not showing up on my friends list. Maybe they haven't done the placement yet.

I just added Morangie, and you are right, he is not showing up in my Friends list. Maybe not working yet? Not sure. I sent out invites to most of those in this thread, may have missed a couple. I did get Wackman, that commie bastard!

EDIT: I think it just updates sporadically. Morangie shows up now.

Yeah, see my edit. I am now, however, facing a new issue. After being in a game for around 30 seconds, I get booted due to a PnkBstrB.exe initialization failed error.

EDIT: Info in the forums on this. Basically, create an AppData\Local\PunkBuster\QL\pb directory, and then run the browser in Administrator mode.

I just got owned so hard on instagib. Morangie is pretty damned good. My best was 10 kills vs 28 deaths.

You have to download a browser plug-in before you play, it's only a few MB. Considering the amount of video settings, my guess is that it does indeed take advantage of 3D acceleration, but they've done a good job of stripping out all the unnecessary (and cumbersome) art assets, the graphics are pretty crisp and clear.

Fullscreen doesn't play nice with other apps, and you can't exit fullscreen without having to reload the map. I bumped up the in-browser resolution so I can get the best of both worlds.

If there's only 1-2 people crushing everyone else, I'd say the skill matching is working pretty well.

There's a very pronounced difference between the recommended servers and the ones that are ranked above me. Sure, the severs at my level may have 1-2 people who absolutely crush the rest, but the other ones have 16 people that can play at that level.

Would it be even better without those one or two people? Yes, but the vast majority of the people are skill appropriate to you, and that's good enough.

One problem, they don't support PC games yet. So CoG forum it is...

The queue is more manageable now, but it completely screws up the spontaneity of just jumping into a game for a few minutes when I feel like it. I hope they do away with the whole queue system in the future.

Played for the first time last night. Didn't have to wait in queue, beat all the initial training things so I ended up on the highest difficulty and the stupid training bot beat me by one point thanks to a bad spawn run I had. Hopped into an arena match and had a blast, definitely brought back lots of memories.

That training match annoyed the heck out of me last night. First time I played. I'm an okay player, but I got stuck in an endless loop of bad luck on in the training match. I was up 10-0, then she got a rocket and just kept nailing me "just right". Finally beat it though. I'll admit, I was more of a Quake 1 and 2 guy.

I wasn't sure about the training map myself. I think she killed me once. MAYBE twice. But then I went into a match with real people and got owned pretty hard.

Also, why don't they have option to "auto-switch me to better weapons but NOT worse ones"?! :mad: :p

Yeah I had to turn auto-switch off because of that. Having the quick buttons to the most important weapons right near the WASD was enough for me. That's nearly exactly how I used to play Q3.

I believe Mouse-Down gives you your previous weapon. The mouse wheel doesn't go numerically through the weapons, but through the list of weapons you picked up in which order.

Yeah, my FPS skills have degraded a lot over the years. QIII was one of the more frenetic shooters I'd say and probably the last one I played with any frequency. Got in a few kills in a match that I jumped into, but my skills are lacking, plus I forgot the layout of the maps.
