So.
I'm in the market for a new computer desk chair. Ideally, the chair I want to have a metal frame and base. I don't want any plastic crap, but I do want something that's still affordable for the most part. I.e. not 300$ heh. 100-150ish tops hopefully :P Doesn't need to be special, leather wrapped, I don't care. I just want a chair with a sturdy frame.
With that said, everyone who posts here has to sit in something, so any recommendations? Unless you post standing up, in which case you're an odd duck.

I bought a mesh-backed office chair (http://www.officemax.com/omax/catalog/sku.jsp?skuId=21612211&category_Id=cat780002) from Office Max last year, and it's performed admirably. I has good back support and is pretty comfortable. Best of all, it's on sale right now, and you can try it out in the store.

We had one of those, or something similar, where I used to work. Very comfortable.

I have that chair. Be careful not to lean back too far in it. The back will crack where it meets the frame. I had to have them mail me a replacement like a week after I bought it.

Well i'm posting but it's not in a chair. And i'm not standing...try a good sofa or futon, that would work :)

I use a core ball

We also use Herman Miller chairs at work. I gotta say that I prefer the ball. It is easier for my body to assume a natural position that I can hold for longer periods.

I don't see how that could possibly be comfortable!
I hope you aren't using a laptop :o

I can't believe people actually use these.

Thanks. I was looking at that mesh chair. Question is and I can't really tell, is the wheel base area plastic or metal?

Your best bet is to head down to a couple office furniture stores and sit on the chairs until you find something you like. A few things to keep in mind are variable height and adjustible back that really make a difference.

You may all jest at the core ball, but Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton also use them as chairs.
And as far as office chairs go, check on the return policy at the store. It would suck if you got one that was uncomfortable after a half hour.

Well, at that price point your choices may be limited. But it's true, you really should just go down to Office Depot or whatnot and try out chairs, see what's available.
Myself, I'm fine with "classic" office chairs. So long as there's a good back on them, I prefer the cushion seats/backs and rubber (?) arm rests. I've had many last me a long, long time without breaking. Getting a metal one doesn't necessarily mean you're going with better quality. Most of the cheaper ones of those don't have much "give", so they'll end up breaking earlier, actually.
