Conan for the 360.
So, I just finished Conan for the 360. I don't want this to be a full review or anything, but a thought occurs to me; I never would have given a Conan game a chance unless it hit a certain price threshold.

However, I was AT the Big Red Pawnshop at midnight for GTA IV.

I found Conan to be a fun little actioner, cut from the same cloth as God Of War, and if you like the comics or the flicks the game is great. If you like the books, you'll probably hate the main enemy's name. It's pretty hackneyed.

Next up for me is the first FEAR, mainly because I'm kind of particular about FPS games (read: Valve fanboy).

But, anyone else have a bargain bin find that they were surprised was any good?

Where's FrogGodHero? He really needs to respond to this since he buys a lot of games at the $10 price point. Personally I try to find games for 10 bucks but everything around here that's maybe 10 bucks some where else happens to be at least 20.

Not for $10, but I picked up Lego Batman for $25AU, which is abotu as close to $10US as we'll ever get and thought it was great.

My friends have told me to quit bragging about it, but I also managed to snag a copy of Left 4 Dead for 30, which is probably the best 30 I have ever spent in my puff.

I picked up Tomba! some months back because I found it for 10-15 dollars. Great game. I always loved the demo that came with my Playstation, and wanted to pick it up, but it isn't exactly the cheapest game to find in the aftermarket. I try not to pay any exuberant prices for rare games, but sometimes it happens.

Where's FrogGodHero?

He doesn't post.

Recently I picked up for between 10-20 Canadian dollars (all 360);

Operation Darkness
Universe at War
Conan
Alone in the Dark

God knows when (if) I'll play them, but for 10 dollars you can't go wrong. I would have picked up Dark Sector if I hadn't beat it twice already.

He's got three posts in one thread about him, we're talking about him that's what he wants! But before we derail this thread I want to add that I am looking for Frontlines for below twenty bucks but so far I can't find it north of the border.

Honestly when a game gets to ten bucks it's cheaper to buy than it is to rent.

Timeshift is definitely an enjoyable shooter you should be able to find for cheap.

I see it for like 23 but honestly 20 is like the breaking point for me. I know it's only three dollars and I spent twice that on a fish burger from Wendy's for lunch but I have to draw the line somewhere.

If you have any Half Price Books in your area they sell Shadowrun for the PC for $3. Both of the copies my roomie bought had the 1 month live cards in them too.

Crackdown, and Test Drive Unlimited are the only I could think of, but those were used. Both great games. I've probably put more hours into TDU than any other game than Rock Band.

Tomba was a brilliant game, sadly ignored because of it's presentation. There was an amazing amount of depth in that game.

As for recent cheap grabs, well, on PC I finally nabbed Mount & Blade, but was disappointed to find it ran like poop on my computer so I've had to get my M&B fix on a friends machine. Still fun as hell, though I've been cheating a bit to cut down on some of the tedious travel and searching that gets in the way of all the awesome horse combat.

I picked up Advance Wars DAys of Ruin for $10 at the pawnshop, and I'm honestly not sure I like it. I was always worried about it a bit because of the whole emo-revamp angle, but by and large the gameplay seems on the surface to not be appreciably changed, and who the hell cares about the story in AW games anyway? The problem is, it's damn hard. At first I thought it was just that they'd improved the AI, but several games down the line and I'm starting to instead suspect it of blatant cheating. It really does seem like the computer is able to pump out a lot more units a lot faster than the player can, and a lot faster than simple mathematics would seem to indicate was possible. I'm thinking it may wind up at the Gamestop sadly.

I also got Rocket Slime for $13, and that was pretty much a no brainer. The game is pure awesome for the most part, though it does get a bit repetitive closer to the end. It's still fun as hell though.

The multiplayer, and the sheer volume of map storage available, tempt me into keeping it, but the truth is, without the singleplayer being any good, I'm generally unlikely to bother putting it in. My DS is rarely, if ever, actually powered off, instead it's almost always got something running in sleep for me to flip open when the mood strikes me. But if there's nothing really worth playing in that mode, the game will wind up languishing.

The upcoming Fire Emblem for DS, or even Dual Strike or the original Advance Wars have a superior single-player mode to Days of Ruin. The only reason I keep Days of Ruin in my collection is for WiFi wars. I can't stand the campaign either. I'm stuck on some late-game mission that appears to be impossible.

I don't know if it'll be changed for the North American release, but you shouldn't step into FE DS expecting a cake walk. It's damned hard.

It doesn't suffer from inconsistent difficult spikes like FE Wii does, it just starts out appreciably hard. I mentioned this in the dedicated thread but there are six difficulty levels - Normal, and five various shades of ass-pounding. The story's solid and FE still does some things better than Valkyria Chronicles, but the franchise is stagnating.

I'm a huge follower of www.cheapassgamer.com and I have picked up a ton of games on the cheap thanks to that site. Recently:

9.99

Perfect Dark Zero
The Simpsons Game
Kameo
Ninja Gaiden 2

19.99

Operation Darkness
Spectral Force 3

I figure that at 9.99-19.99 I can take chances on games that didn't get great reviews but that I thought looked interesting.

It doesn't have the comedy in sp that BF:BC had, but the multiplayer is like the older battlefield games. The back of the box says that it supports upto 32 players online, but that's wrong since it can do 30 vs 30 on dedicated servers.

I find a great way to get games cheap is to have a subscription to Gamefly. Even if you only rent a single game a month, it's still a big savings over buying new, and you can get some amazing deals on their used games.

And I can add after going through the first mission, as a game it feels damn solid. Weapons have a nice feel to them, controls are smooth, and the little RC vehicles add in variety.

10$ games I have recently picked up:

Turok
Facebreaker
Dark Messiah
Conan
Beowulf
Viking
Kane & Lynch
The Godfather
C&C Tiberium
Lost Colonies: Extreme Conditions

The only one I have played so far was Turok and I would have been disappointed if I paid any more. As you can see, I have a sizable backlog (not even considering the games I paid more for or got as gifts).

I also got Frontlines at CC for 18$.

I liked them all. Facebreaker was the one I was concerned with, but I've put more time into that game than I thought I ever would. Have beat it about 5 times now, or more. I need to beat it with all the boxers so I can get an achievement. Still have many more to go.

I liked Timeshift quite a bit, moreso than Blacksite but I still enjoyed them more than the reviews had me believing. Then again, at that price it's hard not to be pleased easier. Timeshift's close quarters combat is the best and is very visceral, but later levels make use of large battlefields, and you can't rely on your nifty shotgun. :(

Honestly, about half of the games I own I pick up for cheap. Especially for PC. Games like Stranglehold, Blacksite, Just Cause, UT3, Alone in the Dark, Timeshift and Silverfall were anywhere from $2 to $10. So if I can't stand the game, like Timeshift, I just don't play it and it was so cheap, I don't care. Out of that entire list I have played through Stranglehold. The rest I have either completely gave up on, or just don't care enough to keep playing it since I have so many better things to do. Thank you Amazon and GoGamer.

I've picked up a ton of games lately for $10 or less. The most recent ones were Two Worlds and The Darkness for 360.

Most of my cheap purchases have been via Steam, and they are too many to count. Titan's Quest, Bioshock, Company of Heroes & Opposing Fronts, etc. The list really goes on and on, as there are so many great deals on there. Of course I haven't played most of them, but given enough time I will work through them all.

The biggest bang for my buck goes to Dwarf Fortress. ;)

The Darkness is a steal at that price. Easily one of my favourite FPS.
I keep meaning to check out Two Worlds. I have two friends that bought it and both really hated it, and yet I keep on hearing about other people who had a lot of fun with it. If I spot it at a good price and I have nothing better to do, then I'll probably pick it up.

But that time is not now. With Dwarf Fortress and Diablo 2 addictions in full effect, I have very little time for other games.

In a way it's like suffering through a bad game. It has a lot good things going for it but it's base it's almost made of shit. Ok not shit, but more like Keanu's acting skill. Ok I don't know where I was going with that, but I paid for the collector's edition day one, $70, and I feel I got my money's worth in laughs alone. But it was a ton of mechanics they made me wish designers at Bethesda were playing it so they could be inspired. Steal some of the good ideas.

If you're looking for an awesome platformer with great controls and a camera that never glitches on you, no.

If you're looking for a decent platformer with some camera/control issues, but that has awesome writing, hilarious cutscenes, and some very spot-on digs at video games, then definitely.

I paid $10 for Simpsons and definitely feel like I got value for my dollar.

Other games I got fairly cheaply that I liked (some closer to $20)

Just Cause - I know it didn't get the greatest reviews, and can get repetitive, but this is one of my favorite sandbox games. I still think the graphics are almost unmatched even 3 years or so later. I really hope the second one doesn't get cancelled.

Dark Sector
The Darkness
Timeshift

Conan
Viking
