There's a demo for Big Bang Mini on the DS Download Station. My son and I played around with it for about an hour this weekend and found it to be a highly enjoyable experience.
The game is pretty simple. You have a little floating shape in the bottom screen. Baddies show up in the top screen. Flick the stylus on the bottom screen to shoot fireworks up to the top screen and blow up the baddies. Stars and debris fall down. Scoot your shape around to catch the stars and avoid the debris. All of this happens all at the same time.

It can quickly become overwhelming, but it's not frustrating (at least the DEMO isn't). Has anyone else played around with this game yet?

I toyed about with the demo. It's not what I expected; it's much better. It's basically a bullet hell shooter, with a little swiping added in.

I was considering this, but I really hated moving my ship around with the stylus in Lunar Knights.

I bought this the other day based purely on the lenticular cover with an exploding pig, and the fact that it is twenty dollars.
It is an awesome game that is strongly reminiscent of a Brick/Break Out/Arkanoid type game mixed with a shoot 'em up. It is made by Arkedo, who made the awesome DS game Nervous Brickdown, and it shares a lot of similarities in structure where there are sets of levels and the theme changes with every set.
I actually came here intending to make a topic about it, but since that has been taken care of, I will make a post telling everyone who enjoys shoot 'em ups and Breakout clones to give it a go.
Do it for the exploding pigs!

A slightly unrelated question, does anyone know if there are any vertically scrolling shooters on the DS? Like Aero Fighters etc.

Nanostray, although I don't know if it's any good.
I toyed around with it (on topic), and while fun I see some things which really pull the game down. First, just flinging a lot of fireworks randomly gives you just as much chance of hitting something and you can keep your eye on your ship this way so you don't get hit. Kind of a gamebreaker if this is actually easier than playing the game seriously
The stages while cool are organized terribly. The first level Tokyo has to be done 8-10 times before you get a new tune and background. Which makes it repetitive real quick.
I do like the idea and the look and sound aspect of it. Hope 2 will be a bit more thought out.
