My band has some how built up a number of covers up already with out really trying, idea is to keep a 'cover' slot in the set and change it up from gig to gig. Do great balls of fire, thousand miles, grease lightning, time warp, summer of 69, higher and higher and working on some other random more up to date pop covers. Decided that we are going to form a second band just to do cover sets lol :D

Destruction does Metallica better than Metallica. Not that I don't enjoy Metallica's version, but I think Destructions rip's a lot harder.

The problem with Therion is that they're so fucking boring. I WANTED to like them, I really did, but my God do they put me to sleep. I've even seen them live and it was a complete waste of time; not to mention, the guy doing vocals for them at the time was annoying as fuck.
As well, that second rendition of Fight Fire with Fire, it just does not work.

I agree with you on the second one, but I liked the first. Granted, I had never heard of Therion before now, so no preconceived notions and all that.

Johnny Cash's covers...I really don't see the appeal of them. Especially in comparison to his original classic songs.
I think the thing about Cash's covers is that a lot of the song's he does are better than a lot of his own songs. Cash has the problem of all his songs being pretty one-dimensional and cut from the same cloth; that is, all his songs sound very similar to each other. Once you've heard one Johnny Cash song, you've sort-of heard them all. The covers offer him a way to use his great singing voice and style, but put them into some songs that aren't all the same thing.

I liked Redemption Songs and Hurt by Cash. Hurt is the only song where I like the cover more than the original, and I can't make it through the song without some tears. It's the only song to hit me that emotionally. I LOVE all Johnny Cash though, and have been listening to him since I was 17. Surprised the hell out of my wife's grandfather lol.
