View Full Version : Immortal Machines - Looking for original content

With the migration into CoG complete (woo! \o/) we would like to put out a call to the PC gaming enthusiasts in the community, looking for original content to be featured on our new IM @ CoG News Page (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/?pageid=immortalmachines) as well as on the forums.
We have two primary categories, Evaluations / Viewpoints and Guides that we would love to start filling with original content created by the CoG community!
Also, please feel free to link us to a blog (yours or another community member's) that you feel would make an excellent feature on the IM sub-site.
We'll be doing our part to bring new stuff to IM@CoG, but having a rich archive of community created content is definitely the way to go!
To submit a evaluation, viewpoint, guide, featured blog, or anything, post in the PC and MMO Sanctuary (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/forumdisplay.php?f=9), or if you'd prefer to keep it quiet for now, Send a Private Message to myself or Voodoo (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/member.php?u=22).
Thanks to everyone in the community and we look forward to seeing your contributions!

I'd like to submit some content at some point. I think that would be fun and would help me start writing again.
I'm not promising that I'll do anything anytime soon, but I'll try. :)

I'm wondering specifically what you're looking for?

I'm wondering specifically what you're looking for?
Most important is a feature that can be repeated. For example, iHap likes to review games you can get for free. Trebor was putting up guides on how to get old games running on XP/Vista. When I come across something cool, I'll write a piece about it.
Basically, we are looking for those that can do features on a topic which is continuous. For example, an idea I had recently would work in conjunction with the Weekly Release that Bapenguin puts up. A weekly feature that used the information he posts to write an opinion piece on those games being released would be a good addition. Perhaps another person keeps the rest of us up to date on what is happening with nVidia and ATI drivers.
Of course, we are also looking for clues and tips of what is happening in the industry. I've moved a good lot of them already into the news section. But we'd like to stear more towards original & unique content rather then regurgitation of news. This isn't to say, though that we don't like posting the latest news. It is simply to say that we'd like it if people wrote about us and said "Did you see what Stmfuller posted over at Immortal Machines?! Check it out!"

I'm wondering specifically what you're looking for?
I would say that at this point, we'd love to just start seeing more community content featured. What that content focuses on is really up to you guys, though we may start having specific calls for reviews or insights on certain titles/genres as a Feature in the near future.
Some examples of content we'd love to see featured:
- Essay on a subject relevant to PC Gaming (evolution of a certain genre or piece of hardware, your opinion on the lack of Dopefish in recent titles)
- A fleshed out guide that is relevant to PC Gaming and is useful to some degree. (Overclocking methods, getting Commander Keen to run on Ubuntu, how exactly you pwn noobs in TF2)
- PC Gaming Hardware review, recommendations or experiences
And so on. We're looking for said content to be submitted via the forums or your blog here on CoG (or elsewhere, if relevant), or even via PM if you're shy.
Our goal is to foster a rich library of community content that can provoke intelligent and civil discussion, improve the PC gaming community, or is otherwise just too cool to keep to yourself.
I hope that helped clarify a bit, and I look forward to seeing contributions!
EDIT: Damn you Voodoo, too quick on the trigger! ;)

I've sold computers business to business for 3 years and love to do computers in my spare time.
I want to contribute, but I need help putting my "skills" into something useful.

I'm really excited about this new content, regardless of what it ends of being. The ideas in Voodoo and Ten19's posts sound great!

I'll definitely try to help out, as long as I can think of something useful to submit, haha.

Since I'm somewhat of an MMO fanboy, maybe I could do something like a weekly or daily summary of MMO news? or something else along those lines.

I think that'd be excellent. A weekly summary would be better though. We are more interested in quality information on the front versus quantity. ;)

Weekly would be much easier anyways, haha.

Based on the reception and civility of it, I'm pushing a better gaming thread. First one. (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=5545)

I don't think I can help compared to many in here, but I was thinking of a Diablo 2 Q&A section, or guide to runes, mfin, ladder and non ladder builds, character builds, ubers and the such, but there is already a wealth of info out there on the web already.
Or simply a Thread all things Diablo 2.
O, and desktop tower defence, thats my game, strats.
I suck.

I think it's a good idea. Would you be comfortable interviewing him yourself or would you rather organize something with us instead?

I've contacted him asking him if he is interested. I'm not sure if he has an exclusive deal with rpgvault for everything or just the two sneak peaks...I'll get back to you.
