Sequels Aplenty for Ubisoft in the Next Year

According to Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2009/01/22/assassins-creed-2-coming-march-2010/), who ganked it from Ubi's 3rd quarter earnings report (http://www.ubisoftgroup.com/gallery_files/site/270/1042/1932.pdf?PHPSESSID=2326a80d32d1cfeaaae234eee8714a6 6), Assassin's Creed 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and a new Ghost Recon game will be releasing before May 2010 (the end of their fiscal year '09).

Also rumored but not quite confirmed was Red Steel 2. As the story goes, CEO Yves Guillemot said during a conference call, "We have lots of products coming for the Wii next [fiscal] year. We have Red Steel..." before pausing and apologizing for mentioning it before its time. The earnings report also says that of the seven expected franchise "blockbusters," three will be "new brands" and mentions a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game along with James Cameron's Avatar for movie tie ins.

I'm a little surprised that I haven't heard anything about Assassin's Creed with it coming out in less than a year, according to this. This probably means we'll be seeing plenty of it soon.

Oh despite my growing fear of UBI repeat-a-play I can't help but think I'll be weak and pick up AC2 for more crazy leaping neck slicing fun. (even if it is in a different time/place)

Yay! AssCreed and Splinter Cell shall be mines. Although now I wonder if it's Shanghai making this iteration of SC. I hope with AssCreed 2 they've come up with several new detective work scenarios. I mean in the last game it got old to most people and I can see how. I had fun with it regardless.

I am completely uninterested in Assassin's Creed 2, and I doubt that Conviction will be out by 2010, but a new Red Steel game does have potential. It doesn't hurt that the first game was rubbish.

Yeah, all I'm saying is the first game was shit which means the second one, if it actually gets released shouldn't have a tough time being an improvement.

I think this might be the new trend. Not to tease a game as long as they used to. 6 months of hype is long enough or so the newer theory goes.

Yeah, cause didn't GoW 2 like announce and then come out in the same year. I like not having long built up hype.

Edit: If Joystiq is avoided, I'm wondering. . . what began this ancient struggle? Also, since they are the ones that looked at the earnings and got the scoop, is it unprofessional to not link them? (Btw, I don't read Joystiq, so if they are somehow obviously retarded, don't assume I know).

Sometimes we come across news and post it after doing a nominal sweep of the forums. This isn't our full time jobs, we're just trying to do what we can to provide the site with a fresh front-page of the day's offerings in what little free time we have available to us each day. If you don't like it, I'm sorry - we're doing our best.

Also, sometimes we come across news that has been posted in the forums several hours or even a full day previous, and we missed it (I once again apologize for the fact that we are human beings). In those cases, we would rather not promote the thread to the front page because it would get buried underneath the more recent news stories published.

Anyone who posts a news-worthy post in the forums is perfectly welcome to PM one of the mods or send an email to tips (mailto:tips@colonyofgamers.com) and it will likely get posted. That's usually a better route to go than simply complaining and accusing mods of over-inflated egos.
