So my wife and I sent him and his girl friend down to Las Vegas for a week. :D
They just flew down yesterday, but he called last night to let us know that they got in, the hotel is a nice place and they were having a great time! he's not big on the gambling aspect, but he just wants to check out the outrageousness of the city.
He told his mother that he would call back when they were drunk! What a sense of humor. They're going to try to score tickets for Penn & Teller.
Sounds like a good time!
My parents sent me to Ogden, Utah for my 21st. :(

My parents bought me a leather jacket and a steak dinner. Momma always said you gotta eat hearty if you're gonna drink hearty!
Congrats!

I saw them live back in 1995 or so, when I was in middle school. They were great. I think he's going to have a great time.

I went to Vegas last year for my 24th birthday. It is such a crazy city, and I had a blast!

I assume he's going to get too drunk! ;)
But...
His mother has made him promise not to get married! His GF is as sweet as can be and they just might get married some day, but they're both in school and being married would put a lot of stress in the relationship at this time.

nice present...I would really have dug a trip to vegas for my 21st.
Just remember to make sure you take him out and buy him at least 1 beer.
you know, to complete your pure awesomeness as a father.

I don't remember much about my 21st birthday, behind I was down in Provo, Ut, for work. And the guy I was on the trip with was about 30some years my senior... not fun.

Congrats, Buddha. I'm not doing anything special for my 21st birthday, but I wish I was.

Damn, I ended up passing out on my kitchen floor on my 21st. This was after telling all my friends, "It's my house...and if you don't like it you can get the fuck out..yes I'm drunk...I know you're 7," Eddie Murphy styles. Of course I remembered none of this, but apparently somewhere along the lines I just turned into Eddie Murphy.
Annnnnyways...damn dude you are an awesome dad. What a lucky kid you've got! Where did you put him up in Vegas?

total: On my 21st, I went to the bars and my residents got me drunk (I was their Resident Assistant). I then ended up making out with a girl who would go on to destroy my life for the next two years.
Good times.
Also: Buddha rules, and this is a great 21st birthday present. I'm jealous...I miss Vegas.

Nice! I think I met your son (and you) at PAX. I must admit he didn't look close to 21, though I guess that will come in handy later in life. Any chance you want to adopt a 29ish alcoholic? I'm good at bringing drama to family reunions!

I celebrated my 21st birthday by going to work, and then afterwards, going to school.

Dam, last time I did that It was almost 20 years ago, I was 15 or 16. Great times in those days, but I would never do it again. Just glad I got to experience it and come out unscathed!....so much fun..Kids don't try it at home. Seriously. Hit the woods.
No, seriously. Just don't.

I spent my 21st in Omaha with my best friend (at the time), we went to dinner and a movie. It was really nice, although my first legal cocktail was an awful chocolate martini.
Too bad the bitch freaked out on me a few months later for fooling around with a guy she had a crush on, completely ruining our 7 year friendship. :(

Ah yes, she obviously had a good chance with that one.
Fun side story. So my buddy and I are down at the 90's and I actually get hit on (he says I ooze of straight...which always cracks me the fuck up) for a change. So I tell the guy that is sweet and all but I am straight. He asks me why I would come to the 90's then. To which I respond I am here with my buddy who is gay and would you like me to introduce you. I point my buddy out and the guy who hit on me is all about it. Totally got my boy laid that night.

Man, I just lol'd big time reading that. Hmm... For my 21 first.. I got really drunk, high and took some shrooms, then woke up shirtless on the roof of my Firefly in a town near Toronto.. I live in Quebec...

lololol, crap, I actually thought one was chasing me while I was on a double. Hours later I found everyone else and went swimming. Needless to say that was my last time doing it.
Bears, woods, acid. Scary.

Great story!
Lots of straight guys hang out at the 90s, so I'm not sure why that guy was surprised/indignant. That's almost more of a straight bar these days.

Wow I had no idea you had a son that close in age to me!
That being said, care to adopt a 19-soon-to-be-20 year old? You have a whole year to save up to send me to vegas! Or wherever... I'm not too picky as long as it's more exciting than College Station, TX

My wife and I just got back home last night. We went down to Vegas on Wednesday to spend some time with them and show them around. Also got a chance to buy them some drinks. We had a pretty damn good time with them. Ate some great food, did some shopping and saw the sights. That whole area is just a giant system-overload zone. I'll try to post some pictures soon.
The kids came back home On Friday... my wife and I had an extra day and night all to ourselves! Sweet!
I can never say this enough: I love my wife! :D
