I am on 15Mbit cable...seems like a decent speed. Metered billing is not coming soon, if it ever comes at all now. Even if it does, I would not go back to the asshole duo of Rogers or Bell, even if I have to pay more for Teksavvy.

There's an alternative that's unmetered?!

Seriously one of the best games I've played in recent years.

No DRM problem ... but I fear that I will have an issue ... so I avoid games with activation limits.

... besides I tend to pick up and put down games rather a lot. Plus some games I have played multiple times - I have probably played thief/thief 2 on at least 5 different computers over the years. Plus I am deeply offended that there is DRM on top of steam DRM.

Owning every Gothic game, I am having a hard time understanding the amount of love the first two get. The first one, the story drew me in, but the controls made the game unplayable for me. I have recently been trying to get into the second game. The story is not drawing me in and I have little idea what is going on. The game punishes you heavily for going down the wrong path. The combat is clumsy and my guy is extremely weak. So combat is mostly luck. It requires a LOT of saving, and quick save by default is disabled. I had to do an .ini edit to get the much needed quick save. Every other building I walk into I get attacked, knocked out, then looted. Not very much fun. As much as everyone seems to hate 3, I find it much more user friendly and I can live long enough to get a level up and complete some quests. I've passed on 2 for now and on to the expansion for 3. So far, not too bad for $2.50.

So this is off topic when it comes to deals, but it's Steam related.

I have Steam on my laptop and desktop. On my laptop I can connect fairly quickly and on my desktop it takes about 3 minutes. Anyone know of a reasonable explanation? Both computers are in the same room, and within close proximity of one another. I think it might be a weak wireless card on the desktop though.

It's because it keeps changing its frame of reference. The first line is a sale priced, the second isn't, the third compares sale and non-sale and the fifth compares two sale prices. Confusing, yes.

This is my train of thought verbatim...

Yeah, me too. But I think I'll buy them. Even though it's not like I don't have enough RPGs I haven't even started yet. The Witcher springs to mind.

Both computers are in the same room, and within close proximity of one another. I think it might be a weak wireless card on the desktop though.

Since about Christmas, I've had serious problems connecting. It wouldn't ever log in automatically and then it had about a one in five chance of connecting. And by that, I mean I needed to close it and restart it to try again (if it wouldn't connect, it wouldn't ever connect without a restart.)

So a few days ago I downloaded the beta client in the hope it would solve the issue. Now it won't connect at all. Ever.

When I could still connect, I think I had better odds at connecting over ethernet than wiffi, while I couldn't connect over GSM. SO, I don't know what to conclude from that.

So yeah, all my games with Steam DRM are now completely unplayable. Oh the ironing.

One suggestion - is try another router. I was having weird connect/disconnect/instability issues with gametap a few years back. For other reasons, I decided to replace my router and all the problems went away.

[edit - it never occurred to me before that it could be a router issue - the gametap guy - said my connection was bad and "bursty" and I was blaming my ISP]

Savok

Sometime in the last four hours they released an update to the beta client and now I don't have any trouble at all connecting. So you might want to try opting into the beta.

If you can't even get over the controls, you're obviously not going to appreciate the game. Combat is not random. You just have to get over that learning curve. The combat is far better than Gothic 3's spamfest. As is everything else about the game.

As for punishing, well, it's a challenging game. You want an open world game where you can win fights everywhere? Play Oblivion.

Anyone get an additional copy of Aaaaaa, AudioSurf, or Bit Trip Beat? I may know someone who'd kick some Paypal monies your way. (Hint: His name is Stoke)

Edit: Scratch that. I'm so weak. I rationalized that even if I've never heard of it, if it's in a pack with Meat Boy and Amnesia it's got to be decent.

On that note I have copies of Aaaaa, Amnesia, Defense Grid, and Super Meat Boy. And I just realized 10 minutes ago I was trying to buy a game I already owned. (Amnesia) Steam punked for the very first time.

I can't stress enough how much you should buy this (if you don't already own most/all of the games.) So many delectable gems.

I already have most of them (and the bank accounts looking a tad dry,) so I just nabbed 123 Kick It and Bit.Trip Beat. I've been looking forward to 123 for a while now.

Yes, I went through this and its extremely stupid. For me, I was logging on and simply nothing would happen, although on my primary machine everything worked fine. Do the following:

Go to Store.Steampowered.com , click Login and use your steam client credentials. It will then say you need to add the security code it just mailed you, open your mail ( and leave it open ), and grab the code and enter it into the page and continue.

Now, close and start Steam again, it will run an update, then you log in and it will ask you for a code ( again ), which will be yet another code that was emailed to you. Enter that code and you should be good to go.

I gotta say, in many ways Steam's support really really sucks.

Steam is acting very weird for me. I tried to log in through the website and it didn't let me. When I launched the client it logged me in but wouldn't load my account page. It also is downloading Amnesia again like it has never been installed. It has been installed and I even played it for a bit. All from the same computer.

Is anyone else having wierd issues with Steams account billing?

I'm trying to purchase Portal 2, and its declined 3 cards in a row now, it hangs for ages then says its declined.

I know my cards are fine, but for some reason Steam just isn't working on billing via card...

There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance.

Not Steam's finest hour.

Aye. A lot of the games on my list are games that I bought at a fraction of the price they're currently selling for, thanks to sales.

That said, I also have several games that I paid $59-69 (for a digital deluxe edition, etc.) that are now retailing for $29-39 or less, so it KIND of balances out, but not really, as those are few and far between and the $30 games that I picked up for $5 at a sale are much more plentiful.

Most of the time, Steam almost maxes out my broadband, hitting 2.1-2.3 MBps. The whole point of the chip in nachos is to give you an edible platform to contain the toppings. A large, flat or slightly curved surface is ideal. Why you would replace the backbone of the nacho with a small, rounded object just befuddles me.

Fate of the World is on sale for less than $7.

I'm tempted. That's iPad game cheap.

I had nachos for lunch/dinner. But I forgot to put the guac and pico on them, and forgot to get sour cream.

But they had ground sirloin on them. And that was good.

I still think they could have been worse for me. Oh well.

I'm very tempted with Scratches at $7.99, but I own it on disc... It's a decent (and pretty creepy) horror adventure game.

And man, you guys are making me hungry and I just ate supper. At least you haven't started posting Epic Meal Time videos :)

That would be true if the only threads you read were the END/DAY threads. Derailment is built into the code of this forum.

How is it not a bigger deal that Fable III is up for presale on Steam?

Does this mean that Microsoft is no longer trying to make their Game for Windows Marketplace into a Steam competitor? It seems like very recently that they relaunched the service.

Savok
04-25-2011, 09:10 AM
That's because there's nothing relevant happening.

EDIT: Fable 3 was fucking awful and so is GFWL. This fact has seemingly dawned on both of them, finally, only nobody cares anymore.

I didn't even think about it, honestly. The game is old and there are many much better RPGs on the PC.

Also it doesn't come with tachos.

As stupid as that sounds, it's actually relevant. See that new thread button that's scattered throughout this site? It's there for good reason. A lot of us frequent and subscribe to this thread and every time it's marked as having a new post, we tend to think it may be of interest. Right now, that mechanism is broken. But I suppose we're the ones being unreasonable.

Look what else is on special, a global warming climate change global cooling global warming propaganda simulator (http://store.steampowered.com/app/80200/)! Would like me to go on about the greatest scam in human history and its place in the downfall of western civilization? It's on sale so it's all kinds of relevant.

Its really quite simple. A conversation was started under a different context and grew large enough to warrant a place where they can continue to discuss it freely. They should continue to have that conversation at their leisure. It should not come at the hindrance though of people who are trying to have a completely different discussion. Everyone can be happy but it would take a minimal amount of effort that some would rather contest.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but The Last Stand (http://store.steampowered.com/app/56438/?snr=1_4_4__13) mode is now a separate purchase for those interested. It's basically horde mode, but you control your guy with 'RTS' controls. You level up and get new gear/weapons. $10 is not too bad for a fun game mode.

I've been playing this quite a bit. It's worth the price, but not much more. It's essentially League of Legends meets Gears of War Horde Mode, but with a cooler setting than both. The difficulty is crazy though, and most of the later waves just come down to cheap kiting tactics.

With that said, I'd actually pay good money for a full fledged game of this type.

I know some people here have really old Steam accounts, but is there anyone else who logs in with an email address? I know 99% of people log in with a username but my username is an ancient email I don't even use anymore and that is actually misspelled because I wasn't very old when I made it. I don't like it! So, does anyone know if you can change that stuff?
