Here it is, the ultimate METAL thread. Feel free to suggest other bands to people and discuss your favorite headbanging riffs. Oh yeah, and feel free to question a person's sexual orientation when you disagree with them.

Note: If you post youtube videos, please state the artist and the song of the band in it. Example

Agalloch-Not Unlike the Waves

gYMaIzFq1Iw

Here's some other stuff to break the ice:

Warbringer-At the Crack of Doom
11E1beoZKI8

Baroness-Wanderlust
Bb3ep6YW0JI

Iron Maiden-Wasted Years

SwB9zg7Tbx8

Amon Amarth-Twilight of the Thundergod

eABVwEgzIss

Happy Headbanging! :D

Came out August 24th. I saw them at RockStar's Mayhemfest and it was a hell of a performance, I'd never seen drums that moved around like these did, upside down and all.

The new album is titled All Hope is Gone (http://www.last.fm/music/Slipknot/All+Hope+Is+Gone). It's pretty good, but it has a weak and sometimes sloppy middle. So it comes in great and leaves great but the middle just isn't their best. All Hope is Gone, the single, is fucking sweet though. Still think Vol. 3 might be their best.

It's out and its their most varied release to date. A lot of people aren't really enjoying it, but I personally like it quite a bit. Joey's (Drummer) work on it is easily the best he's ever done.

As for some bands I enjoy as of late.

Protest the Hero (obligatory from the weasel):
Progressive Metal
ypCdGNe3Bvs

Opeth:
Progressive Metal Titans
BQlTFr1vy1o

Beneath the Massacre:
Technical Death Metal with a mild Hardcore influence
cC-4ZRkVnOM

Aborted
Death Metal with quite a bit of melody without being melodic death
ThefPzZbFRI

Ensiferum
Folk-Metal
1cJ3k7yTNqk

Wintersun
Folk/Power Metal (Vocalist/Guitarists/Bassist is Ex-Ensiferum)
9ziAsMTs9sg

Misery Signals
Metalcore
yzg8KyLrCeE

The Absence
Melodic Death Metal (from North America!)
eQCyQ7MAZ-c

Goatwhore
Blackened Death Metal
Cw9km0sOP3c

Behemoth
Blackened Death Metal Titans
_sNY-2Hd4Dw

That's all I can really think of right now.

Their setlist was utterly fantastic:

Heir Apparent
The Grand Conjuration
Serenity Painted Death
Hope Leaves
The Lotus Eater
Bleak
The Night and the Silent Water
Deliverance
Demon of the Fall

To top it off the encore:
The Drapery Falls

They had lots of merch, but it was all really expensive, you'd be better off ordering it online.

I'm very tempted to see Amon Amarth next week as they are with both Ensiferum AND The Absence. Very tempting...

Here it is, the penultimate METAL thread.Nah, I'll wait until the last one :D Someone needs to get the word out that penultimate means "second to last," not "really freaking ultimate."

I'm not posting videos, but-
I caught Opeth on their three-stop Chronology Tour in NYC, very sweet to see the evolution of their sound on stage.

Seen Megadeth a bunch of times, but my first `Deth concert was Marty Friedman's last gig, in LA. He would bust out note-perfect solos such as Tornado of Souls with the guitar behind his head and just look... bored. Fun to watch!

Got to see some awesome/historic Metallica gigs- Lollapalooza in Irvine, CA with Jerry Cantrell joining for Bellz, and Lemmy singing Overkill. The free concert in the Philly Spectrum parking lot for the Re-Load tour. S&M in NYC (horrible acoustics, but worth it for the experience). One of the Fillmore St. Anger rehearsal shows in San Fran, also free (third Trujillo show, first time playing St. Anger besides San Quentin), and just saw the LA Silverlight benefit show, with Flea joining them on Fight Fire with Fire. Saw em two more times in NY (and almost one more in Dublin), but those were the standouts. I hope I can catch them in the Death Magnetic tour.

Seen Apocalyptica (classically-trained Norwegian cellists playing metal) twice- great performers.

Buckethead- he's Metal sometimes, bizarre all the time, and extraordinarily talented. Worth seeing live.

Testament- Got into them when Low came out, finally saw them on tour for the ReUnited tour a few years ago. Great band, loved each step of their evolution besides Demonic. Disciples of the Watch, Dog Faced Gods, and DNR are their best songs.

Dream Theater- super pretentious prog-metal, but a seriously talented bunch of live musicians. Singer is a hair metal throwback that clearly takes himself way too seriously. Saw them twice, including their greatest hits concert at Radio City in NYC.

Black Sabbath- for such a tremendously influential band, with so many great albums... they are pretty bad live nowadays. Especially after a long, draining Ozzfest. Should not be festival headliners anymore.

Ozzy- Saw him on his Black Rain tour, walked out after 2 or 3 songs. Dude can't even carry a tune anymore, he needs to retire. Clearly had serious voice modulation when the album was recorded.

Heaven & Hell- fan-frikking-tastic. Guess thats what happens when you take a has-been like Ozzy out of a band and replace him with Dio who is still going strong. Fantastic live.

Best band names: Goatwhore, Cattle Decapitation, Excrementory Grindfuckers

Worst gig I ever went to: Genitorturers- I am not easily offended, but that band pushed enough buttons that I walked out. Couple that with the fact that the power failed on opener Uranium 357 (or some number), and you get a crappy gig.

Too many to call it yet and I've been lapsing on my Metal lately. With a significant cut in my free time, gaming has taken precedence over other hobbies, so it's been difficult to keep up.

But I would agree with Arsis.

Also Leviathan - Massive Conspiracy Against All Life
and Warbringer - War Without End

I'd say Merciless Death - Realm of Terror, but I really hate what they did to their vocals. Had they kept everything the way it is, but kept the vocals like their first album, it would have been perfect.

I actually just picked up a bunch of albums last night because I've been growing bored of my collection. It's just gotten stale, because it's been in limbo for about a year or so now, with the occasional addition every few months, which is very rare for me. Among the ones I can name off the top of my head:

The Berserker - The Reawakening
Caina - Temporary Antennae
Crom - Hot Sumerian Nights
Dark Quarterer - Symbols
Evergrey - Torn
Fullmoon Bongzai - Noisense
Funebre - Indictment About the World
Gojira - The Way of All Flesh (Listening to this now. It's badass, I was stoked when I saw Gojira had a new album out, one of my favorite bands)
Gravehill - Metal of Death
Hexen - State of Insurgency
High on Fire - Discography
Hour of Penance - The Vile Conception (Eager to listen to this. Pageantry for Martyrs was a fucking excellent Brutal Death album)
Kluas - The New Dark Age
Massemord - Discography
Red Sparowes - Aphorisims
Taake - Taake
Tyr - Land (Fuck yeah!)
Virus - The Black Flux
Zonaria - The Cancer Empire

Got about another ten or so queued up. I'm eager to get the new Weeping Birth as well.

I could also go see Horna tomorrow, but I'm feeling energetic enough to go to a show...for a band I'm only mildly interested in. Plus I literally can't spare the $5, because I have absolutely no money.

As far as thrash metal goes even the decent warbringer album is overtaken by Toxic Holocaust's 'An Overdose of death'
