We have a regular feature over at Co-Optimus called Co-Op Couples (http://www.co-optimus.com/tag/co-op couples). The editorial explores gaming with your significant other and attempts to offer suggestions on what you can play together, or perhaps ways to play together.
This week's column (http://www.co-optimus.com/editorial/83/page/1/Co-Op_Couples__Tempted_By_the_Loot_of_Another.html) has an interesting spin to it.

We've all been there. You co-op halfway through a game with one person, only to finish the second half with another. Usually it's no big deal, sure you feel guilty but they'll get over it. But what if the co-oper you cheated on lives with you? Worse yet what if they are your significant other?
We've all been tempted by the loot of another.
Head on over to Co-Optimus to read about (http://www.co-optimus.com/editorial/83/page/1/Co-Op_Couples__Tempted_By_the_Loot_of_Another.html) one man's journey into Mordor...in more ways then one.

This article is so true it's painful.
I've had Tales of Vesperia sitting at home for over a week now, and I don't dare pop it into the 360 until my GF is sitting comfortably next to me for fear of what might happen to Bingley Jr.
Unfortunately she's been way too busy lately to even contemplate it, so there it sits.. taunting me :p

I have the same problem, now. It is great having a girlfriend that enjoys games like me... except we work kind of opposite shifts (I work M-F, she works F-M and her days working are long, annoying shifts). So, I started a secondary WAR character, and leveled it as high as our primaries, and decided I liked it more. heh. She is a little annoyed that I have 2 chars as high as her primary.
I am worried about Co-op, games, though. :-)

Bonus points to Jim for such an epic win of a title.
And an entertaining article to boot!

This is like the time my best friend Teresa bought Gears of War for her boyfriend (thinking they'd play co-op together), and he ended up playing with someone else. :(

I love the subtitle, bap.
I came here to say exactly this. My wife and I lately have enjoyed playing Mario Kart and Mario Party together as a team.

I don't know, my boyfriend and I play a lot of games, both together and apart. If we've been playing something together and he gets ahead, or vice versa, it's mostly just expected that the one who's ahead take the time to bring the other person up to speed. It would only really matter to either of us, I think if we ruined the story of a game for one another.

Haha, that article was incredibly well written. I'll have to start reading this feature.
*sigh* I'm the one being cheated on in my relationship. I have all these co-op games I've been eager to play with my girlfriend only to come home excitedly to see her playing WhoreCraft!! With my computer down I can't play with her either. *sobs*

It's actually a pretty big problem.
If you start a co-op games, in a lot of cases, you're really more or less locked in to that sort of group progress. Even when you can drop-in/drop-out, often character advancement will become a problem.
I don't think there's a solution for this besides a game offering multiple paths of advancement so someone wouldn't be playing the same game multiple times just to hae a fresh co-op experience.

Really enjoyed the article and it really hits home. I'm starting to get my wife into co-op gaming, however because I work from home and she works out, I tend to slip a bit and play without her.

Ms. Claus and I haven't played any co-op yet that we could "cheat" on one another with yet. Yet. That should be interesting when we get around to it. One of us is always having free time when the other is busy...so looting/leveling up without one another...yeah, going to happen...let the snarky comments fly :).

I admit, only clicked because of the title. It became all kinds of awesome when I realised what title meant. Classic.

My girlfriend liked the article too... and what was REALLY funny, is she was singing it all evening. :-) The song REALLY got stuck in her head, with these lyrics.

I've been slowing playing through Gears with the bf. Both of us started it before and we just got to the new point for us both. The nice thing about co-oping after it's been out for a while- less temptation to cheat (especially with my crazy schedule!) There's nothing more appealing than getting a text "Want to kill some more Locust tonight?" :)

Back in the day my wife, girlfriend at the time, would spend many hours together in FFXI, then CoH, and at last WoW. We leveled classes together and enjoyed what we did. Then we got engaged, and she was expecting so safe to say co-op gaming has changed a lot from then.
Now the only time we can game together is when our daughter is asleep and it's no longer MMO's. Now it's quick co-op games like Lego Batman or Viva Pinata. While I miss the good old days for gaming in MMO's, I look forward for the future now when my daughter is old enough so we can game together as a family.
