So I have no one around who can understand what I'm going through and must post this on the internets...

I just upgraded to 10mbit cable as of like 5 mins ago and I'm currently downloading at 1.315 MB/sec

I just downloaded 200 megs in under 2mins 45 seconds.

I love it.

That is all =/

I find that a fast connection also means I tend to keep less. If I can download it so quickly, what's the sense in keeping it around? Let it live in the cloud.

Did comcast increase speeds recently? Because otherwise, getting a new router (actually a christmas gift from friends) really seems to have fixed my upload issues, and given me overall higher speeds; now I can upload at over 200k/s and not get any lag on other internet-related stuff (was pinging 40 on a CS:S server). Are you also running on an aging router, harle?

It must be something else that is keeping my house from receiving a good connection, whether it is through a coax cable or telephone line. Some comcast guys came out before I switched services and re-wired our connection. Still, there were constant connection issues. I currently have qwest, and the average CS:S server is right around 110 ping.

No it is fairly common in T1 or fiber optic networks. As you share that with more and more people, people using Limewire, BitTorrent, etc. The download bandwidth gets hogged. Few people are doing things like VoIP, games, that are more intensive on the upload.

Never, EVER, have I had to call my provider. The way it should be.

Warning: Insane ramblings and rantings ensue.

It's basically a parable of how when you have a vertically integrated natural monopoly and it comes time to privatise the industry, you don't let the entity that was the previous monopoly keep all the infrastructure. It does not make for a healthy marketplace. Especially if that entity has a long series of management that couldn't manage their way out of a paper bag.

The other main reason is that there wasn't pay-tv here until just just recently (and it's popularity is still slim - mostly on account of it being both expensive and completely shit) so cable was never laid for that. So there's never been a commercially viable reason to lay much cable (there's a bit here and there) so at this point the only hope is if the gubment starts doing it. But...uh...you know politics+technology... I mean we had one party in power who's retarded plan to filter the internet (and in doing so, slow it significantly) fell flat on its face and when they get voted out then other party picks up the pratfallen plan, dust it off and go about the fantastical process of trying to implement an impossibility. Basically we have the same kind of choice between coke and pepsi in our politics as you guys do. And damnit! I don't even like cola. I'm a flavoured milk man.
