I think something that would be really handy would be a variety of RSS feeds. One of the features I relied on at EvilAvatar was the RSS feed; makes it easy to read the news.
The current one for CoG that saves by default in Firefox looks like it contains both news and some forum posts; IMO, it should contain just news.
Another good one would be a "most recent posts" RSS feed, unless the overhead on that would be very high.
If a "most recent posts" RSS feed is implemented, I recommend two: one that includes Politics & Religion (if it is created), and one that does not.

Word has been given that the P&R is not coming here. It is on PiRi.

EDIT: You know, at first I didn't like the idea and just wanted a news feed but now that I have given it some more time, I am actually rather enjoying it. It means I don't have to go browsing through the forums to find interesting topics of discussion.
Please ignore:
I agree. I liked having the news posts separate from the forum posts.

You can do that, you just need to change the forum ID to the news forum in the RSS URL. Don't remember exactly what the URL is, but there is another post somewhere here that explains it.

I like how it is now, I wouldn't be checking the forum otherwise, so one rss feed with posts+news works for me.

vBulletin automatically creates an RSS feed for the newest threads. Click on the "New Posts" link at the top of the page, and then click your browser's RSS icon.
It only gives new threads though, not new posts.
