I installed TVersity a while back and things went swimingly for a while... Unfortunately a PS3 update broke it and now videos seem to work rather randomly (some don't work despite of having worked in the past). I'm also having issues getting it running on my 360. Can anyone tell me what video formats work with either/both system(s)? Or give me any other advice that I might find useful?

This thing has never worked for me on my 360. On an older version I got some strange error starting the server on my PC, on the latest version the 360 sees the videos but all it does is display the first frame of a video and act like it's playing it.
What is this orb you speak of Serapth? Does it work well with the 360? Does it play all video types/codecs?

Make sure you go into TVersity's settings and manually set it to work with your chosen device. I like to leave it on 360; that just seems to work more often. Also, set it to transcode only when necessary. It usually won't have to.
For converting your MKVs into TVersity/360/PS3 friendly MP4s, use a program called GOTsent. Google.

I wish Orb or TVersity were more useful. Everything I have is either AVI or MKV. I've never gotten either to work with MKVs, so they are pretty much worthless to me, since any video conversion means I would rather just make it work on the 360 directly.

For mkvs to play on ps3 you just need a program called tsmuxer. It takes about 3 minutes to convert it to .m2ts that can then be streamed by tversity to your ps3.
Little bit of a hassle, but I dont mind it.

I could never get the Linux client of TVersity to work worth a damn either. I eventually just gave up on streaming anything to the 360 or PS3. I will more than likely just wait until Boxee (http://boxee.tv/) gets Netflix support and use that on a dedicated steaming box (it is a fork of good old XBMC!).

Here's an awesome walkthrough for setting up TVersity for working with the PS3. Here it is (http://weblog.bbzzdd.com/2007/08/04/optimizing-tversity-for-the-ps3-part-i/)
I used it and found that it works great. I haven't found any videos that I can't stream, and it can stream videos that my 360 couldn't stream. Plus, I think the PS3 looks a little better.
