For some reason I'm feeling very drawn to classic disaster movies of late. For example, I'm about to go buy The Day After (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=6457862&st=the+day+after&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=58362) and am hoping to pick up Threads (http://tinyurl.com/8ypoou) and Survivors (http://tinyurl.com/87a3os) some time soon. I already own movies like The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure, but I'm probably missing out on some classics.
That's where you guys come in - recommend some classic (note - The Day After Tomorrow does not count!) disaster movies in the vein of the ones mentioned above.
Thanks.

"A Night To Remember" was the best Titanic film and worth picking up if you can.

I'll look into it - thanks.
Edit - Shit, it's really expensive!
I'd recommend The Poseidon Adventure (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069113/). The remake was fun but I think the original was a good deal better.

I've always enjoyed Meteor (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079550/) with Sean Connery.

would The Andromeda Strain count? It's pretty cool at the very least. Sci-Fi disaster movie...?

Oh dude, I love that movie. Definitely makes you take nuclear weapons more seriously than most people seem to these days.

Last Night - "Last Night tells the story of how a variety of intersecting characters spend their final evening on Earth. It seems the world is to end at midnight (Eastern Standard Time) as the result of a calamity that is not explained, but which has been expected for several months."

If you like Survivors have you checked out the remake yet? It's got the new Doctor Who, Patterson Joseph in it. Oh, wait.....

Last Night (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0156729/) is such an incredibly thoughtful and thought provoking movie, and gets better each time you watch it. There's just something so haunting about some of the scenes in that film and the way it's shot and presented, and I absolutely LOVE the deep, dark humour it brings to the subject as well.
Truly a great addition to this list and an absolute must-see, IMO.

Sweet. I'll add it to my list, and thanks.
Not too keen on Sandra Oh as an actress, but I'll give it a go nonetheless.

I think you'll enjoy it -- I've yet to meet someone who didn't on some level.
And you may be pleasantly surprised by Sandra Oh in this one.. I'm not her biggest fan either, but I'll readily admit she gives a great performance here.

On the Beach (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053137/), from 1959. Nuclear war, and the survivors in the south Pacific/Australia.

For a bit of a different angle why not try When the Wind Blows (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090315/)?

Deep Impact. Only for how accurate it is in it's predictions!
Last Night - "Last Night tells the story of how a variety of intersecting characters spend their final evening on Earth. It seems the world is to end at midnight (Eastern Standard Time) as the result of a calamity that is not explained, but which has been expected for several months."I loved this movie- I'm so glad I finally have IFC and Sundance channels now or I would not have run into it. It's a pure Canadian sci-fi apocalypse movie, very slow-burning and understated. And although they don't outright explain the reason for the end of the world, the reason becomes pretty clear if you pay attention to all the little clues. Also, not everyone seems to notice that they do tell you who Sandra's husband was, but the clues are there as well.
Not too keen on Sandra Oh as an actress, but I'll give it a go nonetheless. She was good in this. I believe it was well before her stint in Hollywood. The guy who plays Leoben in the new Galactica was a young man in this movie, and his role is hilarious as he tries to fulfill all the sexual desires on his "list" before the end comes.

I just wanted to say Threads is a good choice, I like that one a lot. It's not that great as a regular movie per se, but it's very interesting as a possible WWIII scenario.
I've been told by a few people to check out Miracle Mile. It's supposedly a very good nuclear war movie with an unexpected ending.

I was going to mention this one, I've seen it a couple times now and it's really good. Takes a bit to get going but it was very well done.
