The top banner breaks these forums for those of us still on 800x600. I use this resolution for my bedroom and living room computers, and as such, I have to scroll left and right to read posts and know who they're from. What are the chances we could get a style with a smaller top banner?

What size monitor are you using? There aren't a whole heckuva lot of people still using 800x600.

If you're using firefox, there are plugins that would let you customize css (make the header smaller, or gone). Or you could AdBlock it.

Actually, it does look like it's the CSS keeping it at the fixed width, not just the image (tried loading the page with images off in Firefox).

I think my monitor melts and screams at anything below 1680 x 1050 =/ how can you handle 800x600?

Aye, unfortunately I think 1024 x 768 is pretty much the de facto internet standard for most sites. Time to upgrade!

Now now, let's not judge the man. Let's skip that step, tie him to a stake and burn him!

Actually, I like to use 400x300 so I can run native on my CRT TV.

I realize that isn't true.

800x600? SERIOUSLY? I can't even remember the last time I had a computer that I had the resolution set to 800x600. 1900x1200 FTW.

The screen is 1680x1050, but I have multiple windows up. :p

Fortunately this one is running about 1170px wide atm...

I keep my browsing window nice and small in the bottom right corner of my screen at work. Right now it is at 833x254 :) So I feel your pain, OP, but live with the horizontal scroll.

The current web standard is 900 wide. I an ballsey and went went with a more scaleable template.

One thing you need to keep in mind is scaleability for mobile. Which is hard with a large banner. The simple solution is a logo rather than a banner.

No, the solution for mobile is a true mobile stylesheet which would substitute the banner for a logo.

Unfortunately, CSS and vBulletin do not always play together nicely.

I'm using 17" monitors that I sit far away from. I'm about... 4 or 5 feet from the monitor right now, on the couch. At work, I'm right up on it, so the resolution is way higher. For couch purposes, though, 800x600 is the best way to go, I've found. And every other website I visit is all too happy to accommodate

Let's not also forget the iPhone, Wii, PSP, and soon enough DSi users. They'll want it to scale to an even smaller level than I do.

It's not going to happen, total traffic for mobile browsers AND users 800 x 600 and under is less than 1%.
