I got a Quake live beta account!

It's late, I'm a little drunk, but I can't sleep, so I thought I'd brag about the beta invite I just received for Quake Live (http://quakelive.com/).

Got one a few days ago, played around for a bit, seems pretty stable. Looks pretty damn nice too, for what it is. Doubt I'll play a ton of it, though.

Wow, I can tell I haven't played in a long time, because I've been getting my ass handed to me. It's been a while since I played a shooter as twitchy as Quake.

You didn't hear this from me (NDA), but there's a big stress test on the 7th, and id will be sending out a large amount of beta keys for the test. There's a good chance that if you signed up for an account that you'll get one.

Update: Wow. Quake Live is the real deal. It really is Quake 3 in browser form... great graphics, plays well, smooth loading... it's just awesome. I think I'll find myself playing this a LOT, especially at school during the next semester.

It's actually very smooth, runs like a dream, is pretty customizable, and the gameplay is classic.

One thing that I like is that by default the most powerful weapons are mapped to the buttons around WASD (Q is for rocket launcher, E is for the Electric Beam, R is for the rail gun and F is for Plasma).

For what it is, it's very well designed, and I suspect that ID is going to have a good amount of success with this.
