Have any of you played this? I received it for xmas and have played the first hour or two. Really digging it so far.

My only gripe about it IS BEING CAPITAL WHICH IS RATHER BOTHERSOME.

I just grabbed this about 2-3 days ago. It's very good but my only wish is that I could rotate the map. That, and it would be nice to have an indicator to show how many days I have to hold out for between mission briefings!

Yes, I agree with both of those criticisms, Spigot. I also often have trouble targetting the correct wall piece when trying to repair during battle.

I just know that I'm really, really looking forward to Scribblenauts. In fact, it was hearing an interview of the 5th Cell devs on 1UpFM that got me stoked to find a copy of Lock's Quest, as I'd heard lots of good things and quite enjoyed what I'd played of Drawn To Life.

And despite my complaints about a few design choices, it's a very good game and the fact that Lock can lay the smack down on the baddies really helps make the game better than Tower Defence Game X.

Scribblenauts? I haven't heard of it. Is it similar to DTL?Not to totally derail the thread, but here you go. It's by the same team. It is a puzzle game where you have to get a Starite (basically a big glowing star) in each level. Each level has at least 3 solutions.

The kicker is that you write a word down and that object will appear for you to use in the game. And according to the devs, you can write ANYTHING and it'll appear. It sounds awesome if they can pull it off.

Been considering picking this up for a while, as it seemed to be one of those highlight DS titles.

After Chrono Trigger I'm definitely going to need another similar rpg type.

Yeah, it really isn't an RPG. Check out some reviews before you purchase so you have an idea of what you are getting into.

I tried the demo some time ago. Seemed like a good game, but not really my style. Still fun and unique though.

I'm on like day 18 or something and it is getting pretty tough, but it in a good "I know I can do it this time" sort of way. I'm really digging it so far. My main issue is still targetting, though. Sometimes I just can't target the correct wall piece to repair in the heat of battle.

So... you write a word down, and the object appears? Mu ha ha ha, I'll start looking through all the dirty words in the dictionary.

Although, it sounds like a cool approach to a puzzle game. I mean, instead of saying, "For this level, you are allowed to use one (1) Ladder and two (2) cross beams, they just say heres the magic writing pad, go ahead.

I just rented this game, and I'm only about 20 minutes in, but I can't stand it so far. Why must every game be saddled with some shitty story I couldn't care less about?

Both this and Drawn to Life (my previous rental) have far too much exposition upfront. I find this doubly offensive in handheld games, where I want to be playing the game within a minute of pressing start, not paging through dialogue.

I'll give it another shot, but I hope the story parts become more sparse.

That's disappointing to hear. Hopefully Scribbenauts doesn't have a shitty story.

I thought the story in Lock's Quest was decent. Nothing groundbreaking or anything, but for a TD game, it's high art.

In that there's a story...

I can understand the frustration of not being able to jump right into the fray, but what can you do?

I'll second that...about 85% of games I've played, I wish they would have left the story out altogether. Handheld games are even worse.

That being said, the story portions of Lock's Quest are miniscule once you are past the first couple of levels. You can pretty much jump from one level to the next. I'm yet to find any benefit to chatting with random NPCs.

True...but when the story is the same old "10 year old kid has to step in to save the universe" bit, the flavor is of a bitter nature. ;)
