Dragon Gate USA announcing the entire April 2nd card later today....it's already gonna be a good one.

Oh...also, I read that FIP had their final event in Florida this past weekend...apparently it was to be headlined by Jon Moxley vs Sami Callihan and neither could make it due to travel issues. The show surprisingly drew more than flies but the promotion has long been in decline since it lost it's ties to ROH. I'll never forget some of the shows I attended in 2007 and 2008...most notable would be International Impact Phase 2 highlighted by Shingo vs Yamato before either of them were huge stars in Dragon Gate and The Briscoes vs Mad Man Pondo & Necro Butcher in one of the craziest brawls I've witnessed live at a wrestling show. There were other great matches but that show is one I will always remember.

RIP FIP

The Madman from the Sudan!

Still active today even though he’s in his 70s, The Butcher has battled every legend in nearly every promotion on the planet — except WWE. Despite his decades in the ring, Abdullah never brawled with Bruno Sammartino for the WWE Championship (http://www.wwe.com/inside/titlehistory/wwechampionship/) or went the distance with Bob Backlund in Madison Square Garden. These are dream matches that will never happen, but these icons will all be together when The Butcher takes his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2011.

Clever! I'll give ya' that. Working through Raw right now, but can't say I ever thought I'd ever watch Dancing with the Stars, but since CJ's on ...I did actually tape it tonight.

Stupid fuckin' show, for sure, but Jericho's the man and we should all support by watching. I'm not going to call to vote on some fucking show, though. That's kind of where I draw the line.

I'd vote if Jericho does an armbar.

My friend took me to a Chikara wrestling match in PA. They're a small-time wrestling league in the area. It was pretty excellent! I enjoyed it greatly. It was fun and campy and they spent a lot less time on a soap opera and more time on cool moves, laughs, and a good show!

You might know Chikara from the hypnosis video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5uoUhGDroo).

They did that at my event too, but they danced to Thriller there.

Sandman

Chikara is awesome...they may do small venues, but they're one of the top 3 indie promotions and I'd say #1 depending on where you rank ROH these days. They teased coming to Florida later this year and I hope it happens.

I thought they hit the snooze button on the road to Wrestlemania last night, the only real thing worth watching was the Undertaker/HHH video package promo which you can already find on youtube. Everything else was filler till they could get The Rock and Undertaker back on RAW next week.

Also...don't you love how they forgot about Kurt Angle in that Wrestlemania Rewind match?

For a bit of post Wrestlemania news:

Steve Austin has an interview with IGN to promote Tough Enough.

The article noted that the series will have the Tough Enough "Bottom 3" where each week, Austin will pick three "lowest level performers" and they will have to convince him why they need to stay on the show. Based on that, he will eliminate one of them.

Austin commented, "My job is to sort through these contestants, weed out the weak and find the strong, and look for the person who is strong enough and tough enough and smart enough to be a WWE superstar. You know, there's a lot of people that can get in this ring at a local or independent level, but it take a real special person to compete at the level of the WWE superstars and divas do. So, it's my job to weed through that. Some of [the contestants] are green as grass, some of them have never really been in a ring before. Some of them have quite a few years of experience. But I paid a lot of dues when I broke into this business. I want them to learn to respect what goes on inside this 20x20 ring, and just pay some dues, as much as they can, while they're here, and to learn this business from the bottom up. I just want them to have a sense of really what are the responsibilities of a WWE superstar, and I want them to pay some dues, and I want them to appreciate the rise or fall, but I want them to have a good time while they're here."

Austin also talked about the 'What?' chants that still occur today at every arena: "I tell you what, I would have never in a million years went up to Vince and said, 'Hey, I've got this thing that I'm going to do and it's going to make people say 'What?' after every pause or break in someone's promo for the next ten years. I had no idea that even these days, when Michael Cole's in the ring cutting a promo, if he puts that pause in there, they'll come with a 'What?!' - but it's been interesting!"

Austin also discussed how he learned ring psychology, favorite WrestleMania moments, favorite opponents, who he would like to see inducted in future WWE Hall of Fames, and more.

It's stupid that the Rock is not in the Cena vs Miz match at this point.

Yeah. If this were anyone other than The Rock, I'd assume he'd interject himself into the Mania match somehow and cause Cena to lose as a setup for Backlash. The only problem with that scenario is that Mania is the show WWE _should_ want the Rock to work. Maybe he really is sticking around. Hard to believe, but I guess we will see.

Also, I loved Cena's promo. Again.

Sandman
03-29-2011, 11:13 AM
Going in to last night, I was thinking they could add Rock to that match and make it a triple threat....yeah it's only a week out but it will still spike ppv buys(the event is practically sold out so no need to sell tickets). At this point Rock will be involved in the match somehow but not in the match and I would hold off Rock/Cena till Summerslam or WM28. Maybe if Rock is staying after Mania they could do Rock/Miz for a few months so he's not working the Cena match without wrestling in years.

Also, The Rock will be on Piers Morgan on Thursday. That show airs on CNN at 9pm. It would be awesome if he gets the whole hour but I doubt it. TNA's ratings just got slammed this week though....not like they're doing anything worth watching at the moment anyway.

Sandman

Raw scored a 3.56 first hour rating, then increased to a 4.06 second hour rating, 3.81 overall. Raw's second hour was the only hour to score above a 4.00 rating during this recent stretch. The March 7 episode featuring "Stone Cold" Steve Austin scored a 3.94 first hour rating and a 3.90 second hour rating.

Also, they're running 5 dvds for $60...can't pass that up.

After Dragon Gate tonight I went over to $5 Wrestling with Dave. That show was awesome. It was basically Colt Cabana and a comedian (forget his name) doing commentary over really bad wrestling with a live crowd. Some guest commentators included Sugar Dunkerton, Chris Hero, Referee Bryce Remsburg (sp?) and Luke Gallows (who was awesome). It was basically just an hour and a half laughing at wrestling, some of which has to be seen to be believed.....and some falls into the what has been seen can't be unseen category (like Nikolai Volkoff touching his junk in the middle of a match several times for no apparent reason). After about 12 hours of serious wrestling, it was a nice change of pace.

Wow what a weak finish, saw it coming before the show started:

The Rock screws Cena, and then kicks the Miz's ass. Wow WWE that is the most predictable ending ever.

I would have rather seen the Rock restart the match as a three way match and beat the Miz.

Like I said to the wife, I might have to stop watching WWE until Miz is no longer champ. My patience has run dry.

Edit: Yeah, I've come to a decision; I feel ripped off. I'm taking some time away from the wrestling scene. Both WWE and TNA have dissapointed me too much recently. Monday nights and Thursday nights are now video game nights for me.

Edit: *sigh* now that I think about it, with Cena getting so many boos, they should have him go heel.

Psykoboy2
04-03-2011, 10:15 PM
I think it was a weak show all the way around. Snookie was actually kind of surprising. And, as usual, Taker and HHH were the highlight of the night - with the exception of that long-ass ending. I dunno if they were buying time for the show or making it so Taker would be gone for awhile. Hopefully Cole's gone for awhile too - better be after that snooze fest of a match.

Obviously the guys who were there can say otherwise, but the crowd sounded totally dead in that place. Although I do have to give kudos to Atlanta for not chanting USA during the Del Rio/Edge match and for booing Cena and actually cheering for the Miz.

The match layout seemed fucked up too. I could have sworn they promoted Brian and Shamus as a match, but it apparently ended up as a dark match and the curtain jerker seemed quick and weak. Speaking of quick, that 8-man match thing lasted all of 2 minutes or so. The entrances to that match took longer than the match itself.

Speaking of entrances, fuck off Cena. Well done HHH.

Sandman

IMO, worst Wrestlemania in a while. Daniel Bryan and Sheamus got screwed out of being on the main card, and then their match is turned into a battle royal won by The Great Khali...wtf. Undertaker/HHH wasn't that great of a match but had some good story telling toward the end. I hope 20-0 is the end for Undertaker, he looked seriously gassed this year. Opening with the world title match for Smackdown was a shocker...Del Rio goes from winning the Rumble to jobbing in the opening match at Mania. I guess my favorite match of the night was Punk/Orton. Punk and Del Rio were the best wrestlers on the card for me. I hated the finish also...predictable. Overall, it just didn't feel like Wrestlemania....I can't even think of a "wrestlemania moment" from the show.

Ring of Honor had the best shows of the whole weekend, support companies that want to call themselves a pro-wrestling company :)

Obviously the guys who were there can say otherwise, but the crowd sounded totally dead in that place. Although I do have to give kudos to Atlanta for not chanting USA during the Del Rio/Edge match and for booing Cena and actually cheering for the Miz.

The crowd was hot for some things and others it was hot in pockets of the arena. Cole/Lawler kinda killed the crowd overall (except for a boring chant) although Miz/Cena got great reactions.

IMO, the big thing this WM was missing was the big 4 or 5 star match that guys like HBK, Jericho or even Angle in his time even provided. HBK was sorely missed from this show.

Speaking of entrances, fuck off Cena. Well done HHH.

I HATED that Cena entrance. Just beyond words the stupidity of it.

I can guarantee you all one thing. It might be another decade before I buy another PPV from Vince after tonight. There was a few good matches. Like the Rhodes Mysterio match. HHH and Taker was good. And even though the placement of it was weird, Edge Del Rio was pretty good as well.

But yeah, the whole thing felt like a glorified RAW.

On a side note, it seems WWE has painted themselves into a corner with Cena. They put all their eggs in one basket, and now people are booing him. They need a newer fresher face that actually gets a good pop from the crowd. It's Orton's time now WWE. Kick Cena's overrated ass out of the spotlight and let Orton be the face of the company.

Sandman
04-03-2011, 10:46 PM
Also, another thing I just realized...for all WWE has done with their youth movement lately:

Sheamus & Daniel Bryan = booted off the main show

Alberto Del Rio = won title match in Rumble, jobbed in the opening match
The Corre = jobbed in about 2 min
CM Punk = worked hard in the match but still lost to Randal
John Morrison & Dolph Ziggler = burried in the Snooki match, Morrison only got one spot
The Miz = won his title, but was buried by the focus on Rock/Cena (again)

Cody Rhodes at least picked up a win over Rey, but I was kinda disappointed that he didn't go for Rey's mask...that could have been a WM moment.

Wolvie

Earlier today, Dragon Gate USA was awesome. You have to order the Open the Ultimate Gate PPV. The Masato Yoshino/PAC vs Cima/Naruki Doi match has to be seen to be believed. Also they did a Austin Aries vs Jimmy Jacobs match which was Aries farewell match. They did alot of playing to the crowd and at one point on the outside Aries called for a boot and several fans put their shoes up on the rail. Aries put Jacobs through each one. Someone called for one more boot, I put mine up and this time Jacobs reverses it and they do a back and forth tease and eventually neither hits it. It was awesome. I'll have to buy that dvd now.

I thought it was okay, but I was also kind of drunk by the 2 hour mark.

The Taker/HHH match was the highlight, but
It should have ended with the HHH Tombstone on Taker. That would have been the ending that got the crowd buzzing and would have been a real WM moment.

Wolvie
04-04-2011, 04:10 AM
Oh and the ending of the Lawler/Cole match in the words of Austin was bullshit.

Austin shoves Cole out of his face and the RAW GM reverses the call? Fucking weak. That was just insult after a match that was just painful to watch. And not in a good way. I got up several times to get snacks and sodas during that match and even got online a few times. This match shouldn't even have happened. They should have bumped this match and kept the Sheamus/Bryan match.

They could have had Cole chicken out and leave before the match to explain it away. But now we have to not only listen to Cole run his mouth about how he "beat" Lawler, we have to listen to the Miz brag about how he "beat" Cena.

Thats another thing I'm getting sick of. When your champ is so pathetic he can't even keep the title without constant storyline interference and lucky breaks? He absoloutely sucks. And it's time Miz dropped the title, he's had it for long enough. It's time someone else had a run. Like I said, I really don't think I can stand watching RAW until Miz is not champ. And at least tonight I boycotting RAW in protest over the piss poor Wrestlemania I just watched.

We lost a dedicated friend and an overwhelmingly talented performer this morning. Alex Whybrow aka "Sweet & Sour" Larry Sweeney has passed.

We spent a few yrs together on the road & Alex was gifted beyond measure. He could enthrall you with colorful stories from his personal life

or he could captivate thousands with his undeniable charisma. I loved him & my heart is with his family, friends & his countless fans.

First he was my student & he transcended that almost immediately. I will forever cherish our in depth conversations & time spent together

Love you man. Miss you. Rest in Peace.

Well, didn't expect that from Edge. I mean, I did EVENTUALLY in his career but not like this. For those who are wondering, the Edge retirement speech was 100% legitimate and real. We were told by a company source earlier this evening that when the major announcement was made tonight, it was not an angle and not storyline.

The story that Edge told about medical tests coming back and showing there was a new issue with his neck and being advised he must retire are true. He was basically handed a mic and told to go out and say goodbye however he wanted.

Wolvie

I am truly bummed after hearing Edge say goodbye. :(

It's just like when Austin left; you understand why he has to quit, but it still sucks. While he was talking I was honestly getting choked up. All I gotta say is I hope he enjoys retirement, and eats himself a ton of icecream. Goodbye Edge, you will be dearly missed by this fan.

Edge's problem reminds me of Austin and Tazz a bit especially with the numbness. I'll always remember being there for Wrestlemania 24 as Edge tapped out to hell's gate to close the show. It was, an awesome ending to the best weekend of live wrestling I've ever seen....even after this past Wrestlemania weekend which clocked about 22 hours of wrestling, 6 shows, 1 free bonus card and 1 wrestling related comedy show.

Wolvie

Wow, every wrestler I know of that had similar neck injuries have the same problem: shorter carreers. Austin, Tazz and now Edge? Yeesh. The thing that really concerns me is that both Angle and Cena have had similar through-the-throat surgeries. I wonder how much longer we'll be watching them throw down.

What worries me is that WWE keeps loosing wrestlers. Eventually all we'll be left with is entertainers. They've already dropped sports from sports entertainment, calling wrestlers Superstars and even telling news sites to not call them a wrestling company. When wrestling stops being the main product for WWE like music quit being the main product for MTV I quit watching.....maybe sooner.

Wolvie
04-12-2011, 08:07 PM
What is really showing about WWE to me now is how hard they have leaned on their veteran guys. Shawn Micheals Edge Cena and Undertaker have all done more than their fair share to keep WWE propped up. But after losing two of their showcase wrestlers, it's just gonna hurt them. Like an NHL team losing two defensmen in a short period of time.

To further illustrate my point recently WWE sent out "The Language of WWE" to international networks:

"World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is a publicly traded entertainment company (NYSE: WWE) that creates and delivers a weekly action soap opera to its passionate fans.

WWE has been a recognized leader in entertainment for more than 25 years and has developed into one of the most popular and sophisticated forms of global entertainment today.

As a global entertainment brand, the language that we use when communicating on WWE is critical.

Please ensure that you are familiar and employing the below, effective immediately. "

* "Wrestling" or "catch" is banned. Some European countries still use the term "catch" to describe pro wrestling and "catchers" to describe wrestlers. "The Language of WWE" states that the following phrases are incorrect: "Wrestling is broadcast in 145 countries," or "Catch is broadcast in 145 countries." The correct terminology is: "WWE is broadcast in 145 countries."

* "Sports" is incorrect. "Entertainment or Action Soap Opera" is allowed. For example, "WWE is exciting entertainment" or "WWE is an exciting action soap opera" is allowed. In the last example, "action soap opera" is printed in bold, presumably to make sure there's no confusion.

* "Catchers" or "wrestlers" are not allowed. Incorrect examples are "Catchers are unique characters" or "Wrestlers are unique characters." The term "WWE Superstars" is allowed.

* "Athletes" or "Sportsmen" are now allowed either. WWE gives the following example to use: "WWE Superstars are entertainers with tremendous athletic prowess."

* The term "fight" is not allowed. Matches must be referred to as "match" or "bout."

* "Fighting" is also not allowed but the term "action" is.

"The Language of WWE" printout concludes with the following "Key Soundbytes":

* WWE is pure entertainment

* WWE is an action soap opera

* WWE Superstars are entertainers with tremendous athletic prowess http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/wwe/Official_List_of_Banned_WWE_Terms_Sent_Out_to_Inte rnational_Voice-Over_Workers.html

Action soap opera is the most alarming to me...typically in the US, that is one of the most common criticisms of people who don't watch wrestling.

Just saw this over at Lords of Pain, here (http://www.lordsofpain.net/news/wwe/Val_Venis_Blasts_John_Morrison_Melina_Contains_Fou l_Language.html). Morley's freakin' hilarious.

N7SWb-lH86g

Trish Stratus confirmed last Friday via radio interview that she was snubbed by John Morrison at WrestleMania. He wasn't interested in listening to her suggestions for their bout, and that when she went to hug him during the post-match celebration, he gave her the cold shoulder. The assumption backstage is that Melina was in his ear because she believed Stratus was taking "her spot" at the pay-per-view event.

Former WWE talent Sean Morley (a/k/a Val Venis) is furious over their alleged treatment of Stratus, who he considers a friend. He posted a video online blasting the real-life couple, while also defending Stratus. His remarks are as follows:

"I've always been really nice to Johnny and Melina. I've always been really nice to them. I don't respect Johnny at all. And, you know, there are several reasons for that. And now, after snubbing Trish for supposedly taking Melina's spot at WrestleMania. You know what? Screw it. The reality of the situation is Melina, it's not your spot! It's Vince McMahon's spot and he's going to put in that spot whoever will be doing the best for the company and it's ain't you, ah-ah! It's Trish! You think you're on the same level as Trish, Melina? Come on! All that respect I might have had for you, which honestly was just a little bit, is completely thrown out the freakin' window now!

"The reality is, your boyfriend Morrison is nothing but a chump ass bitch who has zero nuts! Zero nuts! What is it? First it's Mike Knox, then it's Batista? And the whole time Morrison goes on like, "It's not really happening. It's just, she doesn't really cheat on me." You're a freakin' ho Melina! You know what, I'm not even going to say freakin' anymore, you're a fucking slut, period! And Morrison you wanna go out there, and Melina, and snub, my t-dot girl Trish? Come on!

"Melina, you're not the same level as Trish. If you want that spot so much, why instead of taking it out on Trish and saying, "uhhh she took my spot," why don't you think, "Hmmm... Vince chose Trish for that spot. How can I better improve my charisma, my in-ring ability, my marketability. So that the next time Vince decides to choose someone for a certain spot, you'll choose me." It's called competition. It's called free market competition Melina. But no, you can't handle that. You think you're owed that spot, you ain't owed nothing!

"And then Morrison, you're going to walk around like Batista didn't tag your girl? You're going to walk around like Mike Knox didn't tag your girl? By the way, how does Mike Knox taste? How does Batista taste? How does, God knows how many other guys she's banged right under your nose. In fact, it wasn't even under your nose! You just pretend it was under your nose! You know the whole time it was f*****g going on! God dang! So all and all, while you walk around snubbing Trish, a future Hall of Famer, you try and turn a ho into a house wife! Melina's nothing more than a glorified ring rat. I have zero respect for you Morrison.

"And you know what? We're going to run into each other at some point in time. I'll walk right up to you with my chin stuck out and you either chin me, or beat it! But the reality is, you ain't got the balls to chin me! Cause the reality is, Trish has proven time and time again, to the entire world for that matter, that she has way bigger balls than you'll ever have.

"Keep trying to turn that ho into a house wife! F**k you Melina! F**k you Morrison! Trying to knock my t-dot girl Trish, who actually earned a spot! God dang!"

I might take a break from WWE for a while. I've come to realize lately my reasons for watching are dwindling. All of my favorites are either done completely (HBK, Edge) or will never work a full schedule again (HHH, Jericho, Undertaker). Sure, I like guys like Randy Orton, The Mix, CM Punk and Daniel Bryan but they're all kinda doing the same thing each week to each month. I've actually already been taking a break from TNA since early February and taking a break from RAW and Smackdown won't be that much different....I'm kinda just watching them to watch them anyway. Ring of Honor is the only company holding my interest right now.

One thing about RAW that will be sadly forgotten after Punk's promo was the awesome tag team match with Rey/Riley vs Swagger/Miz. I was immediately interested when they said it was a tornado tag match and IMO it really exposed what WWE is doing wrong in tag team wrestling. Other companies have found a middle ground between the standard tag match and the craziness of the tornado tag, just letting things go when the match starts to wind up. WWE's normal tag matches are slow and traditional. Partners have to keep their hand on the rope at the turnbuckle while the heel team cuts the ring off till we get a babyface hot tag. I'd hope WWE sees how the crowd was into the tornado tag match and adapts some of that into their traditional tag matches a few times, might help things along.

Wow! The internet is lighting up over Punk's promo! Even if Punk went too far during that promo and got suspended for real, McMahon would be insane to let the guy go. But I'm sure this is just a very well done story working Punk's unhapppiness into the story. And I didn't even know about the Austin/Punk Twitter feud until my wife told me about it. Well played wearing the Austin shirt Punk, well played indeed.

I haven't read any dirt sheets, but my money is on Punk sneaking into the arena and interferring with the last match. Then going on another rant before getting arrested.

Edit: Hit the dirt sheets. Heh, this is one of the best worked stories I've seen in awhile. Awesome.

The plot thickens...

There are people in WWE who don't know this for sure but strongly suspect there is some kind of working agreement between Ring of Honor and WWE. There are also people in ROH who think the same thing. At the same time, people on both sides insist there is nothing going on between the two companies.

Sources insist that some of the things CM Punk spoke about in his infamous RAW promo a few weeks back will start finding their way onto WWE TV soon. For example, Punk talked about Triple H taking over and he began that storyline on this week's RAW. Punk also mentioned John Laurinaitis and Colt Cabana, both who appeared on WWE TV in the past week. While Cabana wasn't named by the announcers, he was shown at ringside on Money in the Bank and was photographed with Punk and the WWE Title in Chicago after the pay-per-view. Punk also mentioned Ring of Honor, which adds to the speculation that WWE may be working with them.

For what its worth, Cabana has told at least one indy promotion that he's worked regularly with that he's not taking any more bookings with them after next month.

I know we don't normally talk JCW here (Juggalo Championship Wrestling) but I have to plug their Legends and Icons event Friday night. It's an IPPV which airs as part of their annual Gathering of the Juggalos event and can be seen for $15. It has one of the most loaded legends cards I have seen in a while:

*Roddy Piper (with Bob Orton) vs. Terry Funk in an I Quit Match with Danny Davis as the referee.

*Tito Santana vs. Greg Valentine in a Steel Cage match, reprising their WWF Intercontinental championship feud.

*In a first-ever meeting, The New Age Outlaws vs. The Outsiders, Kevin Nash & Scott Hall with Sean Waltman, who worked with both teams, as the referee.

*The Headbangers vs. The Rock N' Roll Express.

*Bob Backlund vs. Ken Patera in a reprisal of their feud over the WWF championship.

*In what is being billed as a "Memphis Madness" match, Koko B. Ware vs. Kamala vs. Jerry Lawler vs. Dutch Mantell vs. Austin Idol vs. Brickhouse Brown.

*Tommy Rich vs. Tracy Smothers in what is being billed as their first-ever singles meeting.

*In what is being billed as "Philly Madness", Raven vs. Shane Douglas vs. Balls Mahoney vs. Rhino vs. Al Snow vs. a mystery opponent.

*The Powers of Pain vs. Rikishi and Brian Christopher.

*10 Man Royal Rumble style Battle Royal featuring Carlito, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Tony Atlas, Jimmy Snuka, Zach Gowen, Big Daddy V, Rob Conway, Ronnie Garvin, U-Gene.

Regardless of your feelings towards ICP, you should be interested in this event. Oh and Mick Foley is being brought in for commentary.

I read this in the comments of a sports blog I frequent:

"Kevin Nash showing up is like the Silver Surfer showing up on Earth. You know something even more horrible is coming soon."

Break it down for a supercasual fan that only finds out about stuff from reading what you guys post.

Basically wrestlers are no longer exclusive to RAW or Smackdown and can go between shows as they please.

Consensus on the net? nWo 2 is coming. One sharp eyed fan noticed Nash was wearing the same shirt he wore in his debut... before nWo showed up. Is WWE dropping subtle hints? Stay tuned sports entertainment fans!
