If I am not mistaken, this is going to be the first ever non-Valve game that ships with Steam to retail (http://news.bigdownload.com/2008/12/27/saints-row-2-pc-system-requirements-revealed-will-use-steam-for/)

Essentially, Steam will be a verification system for the retail version. Steam will also have an offer to digitally download SR2 to a player's system if they don't want to leave the confines of their house. If you have a retail version, Steam is only going to verify that you have a real copy of the game when you are first installing and launching the game.

I've heard a lot of great things about this game and I was really disappointed by GTA IV with all the hype surrounding it... so I'm looking forward to this eagerly.

Despite its problems and occasional glitches and such. This can only be a good thing. Saints Row 2 is ALL that GTA4 should have been. And I actually liked GTA4.

I think there's be a few other games that have gone this root. I remember there being a problem with a company not putting the steam key in with some copies of the game. Mainly beacuse idiots where blaming it on valve and calling steam rubbish when it clearly had nothing to do with them. That said i think this is the first really big non valve realise that is using steam for DRM for the retail box. Which should be interesting. nn

This game has the charm of being essentially GTA:SA 2. It's got alot of the (albeit acquired taste) humour, the craziness, and the world feel that GTA:SA had. Where GTAIV went for a more 'realistic' feel, perse, SR2 really does pickup on the feel of the previous title and GTA:SA, both with no apologies.
