My 360 of less than a year RRODed last week. Today I got a replacement xbox delivered to my door. I was happy to see that the manufacture date was only from this last April (hooray falcon), but when I tried to connect to xbox live I only got a connection error. I ran the xbox live connection test and failed on the first question; network adapter...disconnected. To double check that it wasn't just a bad cable I switched it with the one running from my router to my laptop. Laptop gots the internets/xbox didn'ts get nothin'. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this awesome experience or not. Is it a bad ethernet input or could this xbox have been banned due to its former owner(though to be fair I don't really know how a banned xbox actually reacts).
Pretty sure I should just send this one back and pray to Marduk that I get another falcon.
Any help is truly appreciated.

I really doubt it's banned due to a previous owner. If it's been processed through MS they clearly know that serial number is no longer tied to the original owner. I'd just call them up and exchange. It's really odd that it would have such a basic failure, it's something an automated test should easily pick up.

First thing that came to mind for me (and this is just totally a guess) is I wonder if even though it's went thru microsoft is maybe the previous owner used a static ip network and the xbox is still set up that way. Might be something to check. Also, when you plug it into the router, are you getting any network lights at all? If not then def get it exchanged.

If you're failing on the cable test and you're swapped the cable out (and which port on your switch you were using), then yeah, the ports gone bad. Just call MS and get it replaced. Weird though, first time I've ever heard of that problem.

It's quite possible the last owner of that box used the wireless adapter so they never noticed.

That wouldn't cause the cable test to fail though.

Ah, yea, your right. It's still early, haven't gotten my caffeine drip going yet. :o

Yeah, I've used all the ports on my router with all the cables I have, and none of them show those sweet blinkin' lights when they're hooked up to the xbox.

I appreciate the help, I'm gonna call MS right now.

Like others have said - verify that the Xbox 360 is expecting your network setup (static versus dynamic, etc). However - Live has had some issues since the Monday update - I had serious issues getting COD4 to work and got some weird error messages through Tuesday (like it claiming I did not have a network connection at all). So perhaps your problem is related to that - be prepared for the tech support guys to try and convince that this is the case as well.
