Everything on Steam is on sale.
EVERY...SINGLE...GAME.
I might as well give Valve control of my bank account.
Halfway there my friend...halfway there.

Okay, now all of the prices are back to normal.
Maybe I saw something I wasn't supposed to see?
Drinking the spiked eggnog a wee bit to much?

Drinking the spiked eggnog a wee bit to much?
Apparently.
That's crazy. I really want to know what happened now. I had opened up the store earlier but didn't have time to look, and when I went back to the tab it showed that EVERYTHING was on sale. Fallout 3 was $40, I Fluid was $10, Spore was $45, Team Fortress 2 was $10, etc. Every single game was on sale. Then when I clicked on a game it showed the regular price, and when i went back to the store everything was back to full price.
It was either a glitch or I saw something I wasn't supposed to see. :p

Apparently I am not crazy after all. The official Steam forums are abuzz with reports that the store is going up and down, and sometimes when it comes up it shows everything on sale. Apparently there is supposed to be a huge holiday sale, but Valve is having problems with the store and it keeps going down.
The moral here is that everyone should keep a close eye on the store, as there are going to be big sales soon!
Edit - There is a full list in the Steam forums. I'll copy and paste it in here. It seems that everything (or nearly everything) is 10% off, and then select games are 25% or even 50% off.
My poor wallet. :(

EDIT - The following two posts may not include correct pricing. Several of these "sale prices" are merely price reductions that have already occurred. Hopefully someone will post the actual sale list as soon as it goes live. I apologize for any confusion.
Here is the full list of what should be going on sale:

The post that Mags listed all the games is not the sale. Those are everyday prices. This was pasted from the Steam forums (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=518670).

Wow, that is some sale or whatever it's being called. It's easy for me though. I don't have any cash to spend at all. So I won't be able to take advantage. Maybe the next sale. I might be able to swing Civ III which would be a good entrance to what I've been told is a great series. Well i just went though and dumped anything i was vaguely interested in in to a cart.... a £150 for 14 games. So now to cut the list down to reasonable price i do actually want.
So far i've got it down to: beyond good and evil (over here at last), far cry 2, gta4, and x3 terran conflict. There's other things i may be tempted to buy over the next week but i want to limit my self some what since i want to pick up a graphic tablet with my Christmas money rather than blow it all on steam games. That all £71 but i need to drop it more.
Think i may cut x3TC since people seem to say it's not that good, i've just had a hancking for some space action... but x3 i really didn't get in to... that said gta4 is plagued with issues. Come to think of it there won't be much cash in my account at the moment soooo it looks like
Beyond good and evil
Far cry 2
Space trader: merchant marine.
I'll probably pick up gta4 and PoP and a few others bit next week when i put more money in

Edit - The THQ Collector pack is only $75 right now? Shit.
Edit 2 - I'm in for at least $107.50. That will get me the THQ Collector pack, Bioshock ($5!!!), Civilization IV Complete, and Ghost Master. I'm sure I'll find some more. Oh yeah. I bought a boxed PC copy way back, but never got through it. Apparently it's only gotten worse between it's original release and its Steam one. And the lack of gamepad support in a game that was designed as a console game - Just Baffling...

Ultimate Doom
Alien Shooter - Vengeance

Peggle Nights, Safecracker, World Of Goo, Runaway: Dream Of The Turtle, Ghost Master and Bookworm Adventure Deluxe. Sure, they're not the most hardcore of games, but I've been wanting to get most of them over the years and they were too cheap to pass up.

I haven't read that part of the article yet, but having played more than a few missions in a IL-2 I feel I know exactly what they are talking about. Just took Safecracker for a whirl. Concidering I think of the slide-show style of adventure games as a bane on the genre and not worthy of the nomenclature, this one isn't half bad. It's probably because it's more of a puzzler than a true adventure game. It really reminds me of Professor Layton. Hell, it made me think that it's the kind of game that people who thought Professor Layton was too easy would enjoy. I've been able to solve a few brain teasers so far but there have been a few real stumpers.
For $3, it's definately worthwhile if you like logic and spacial puzzles in a sort of interesting setting.

Unless some one knows a way to setting the start up options in steam to do that of course heh

Anyway, I did buy those Sherlock games after all. I haven't tried either yet but I'll wait for tomorrow. I tried the Mount & Blade demo and it looks interesting but I think I'll pass for now. Maybe at some other time when I've exhausted all of the stuff I've picked up on Steam over the past few days.
Man. I just realized I paid $65 for 8 games since yesterday and I've at least enjoyed a bit of all of the ones I've tried. None have come across as being a real stinker. That's awesome.

Safecracker had me stumped fairly quickly :(

Safecracker is fun, it's more of a puzzle game than adventure, but the adventure part is solving the puzzles in order to properly get to the end. Some of those puzzles though, they are HARD.

Oh yes. I was very pleased with my purchase. Not so pleased I dumped another $10 (I think) on The Longest Journey/Dreamfall package. I played Dreamfall for probably 5 minutes before I threw my keyboard out the window in frustration. That game has one of worst interfaces I've ever seen. Too bad, as I hear its a good game. Mag i was playing it for the first time on that crash and that was about 6 or so months ago. I've not gotten that far in to the game but it's still has already had as much, if not more, of an impact on me than most games i've played. I just wish i could face pushing through what i've already done again to get on with it. By which i mean it dose hold up but that's despite the "problems" of old games and it's those problems for the most part that makes i hard for me to go back. I can forgive them when i was seeing new things and the story was building as i was able to lose my self in the story, the story telling, the art and so on.
So in other words, yes, i think it holds up :)

It took me forever to finally understand the interface of the game, but once I did it was golden. I made the mistake of playing it before I ever played TLJ, but it was still awesome. Now TLJ, on the other hand, has an even better story, but some of the puzzles are just plain retarded. I have to wrap a deflated floaty around some pliers and lower them down on a string to get a key? WTF!?

Oh, a word to the wise: If you're playing Dreamfall on the PC, get yourself a 360 controller and use it with the game. I started to play it with the mouse and keyboard and gave up pretty quickly in utter frustration. A quick trip to the store (this was before I owned a 360) and a 360 controller in hand, the game became a delight to play.
And definately play it after you beat TLJ.

TLJ was probably, oh, 15-20 hours (which is a pretty good chunk of time for a point & click adventure game) and Dreamfall probably clocked in around 12-15 hours, though I'm just taking a wild stab at it.
If only they'd make a follow-up to Dreamfall to finish off or elaborate the stories of certain characters. My only issue with Dreamfall is that it seemed like they were laying the groundwork for a 3rd game in that universe but never really realized it. That said, it wasn't like it ended on a crazy cliffhanger like many games do... just that it was leading up to something bigger than the story told in Dreamfall.

I agree with the Gnome on this. I had quite a lot of fun with Anarchy Online a few years back, but Funcom's niche does appear to be elsewhere.
Even Age of Conan showed that they can make a good single player game, as the first 20 levels of AoC were pretty fun. It was when it turned into a full on MMO that it got boring.

Try running it outside of Steam? Find the executable...or maybe just run the video card setup outside of Steam. Or take it a step further and manually edit the games config file so it doesn't need to ask you the config questions?
I bought the Witcher with this deal and have been playing it over the weekend for quite a while. If you dig old school style RPGs (Baldur's Gate, etc.) you'll probably dig it. Gumboy appears to be some sort of 2D platformer. It was cheap and the screens looked nice, so I tossed it into the cart. :D

Oh well. I got the games I wanted to get and I'll live without snagging a few other impulse buys.

I think I did pretty well. Now when am I going to find the time to play all these games?
You are going to be joining me and the boys for some Titan Quest.

My final purchase looked like this:
Peggle Deluxe 4.99 USD
Mass Effect 26.99 USD
Hinterland 14.99 USD
Relic Super Pack 37.49 USD
Prince of Persia 37.49 USD

Defense Grid: The Awakening 14.99 USD
Reaxxion 0.99 USD

I wonder if it ended at some non-obvious time (at least from US perspective) like GMT. They really should have made it clear; or maybe they did but I didn't read the fine print.

There is not much of a manual, nor is there a manuel involved either.
Just start with a knight, look at the map (tab) and stomp off to the nearest monster's nest. Rinse and repeat.

Lets see... after the smoke dispersed:
Bioshock
Doom 2
Geometry Wars
Ghost Master
Heavy Weapon Deluxe
I-Fluid
Luxor 2
Master Levels of Doom
Peggle Deluxe
Railroad Tycoon 2 Platinum
Shadowgrounds
Sid Meier's Civilization III Complete
Space Empires IV Deluxe
Space Trader
STALKER: Clear Sky
Trials 2 Second Edition
Ultimate Doom
World of Goo
I picked some odd ones, but I'm having fun with them.
I already own most of the big ticket items.

That was the most heartrending part of this sale. I already owned most of the big games on the 360 or PC so I couldn't save with the sale. That said, it also meant that I could focus on the cheaper indie titles.

Curses! I knew I forgot to pick up something.
I forgot Civ IV: Colonization. Is it actually worth picking up for somebody who played the original to death? I mean, is there some new stuff in there?
They also need to put Alpha Centauri and the expansion up on Steam. I'd buy that in a second.

I bought Full Spectrum Warrior and the expansion during the sale and just found out that its available for free, although add supported.
Anyone know how bad the ad stuff is in these add supported games? Kinda feel ripped off, unless the ads are extremely intrusive.

I went nuts on the Indie stuff! Many of those items have loads of gameplay!
I grabbed Bioshock even though I already have it, just because it was so damn cheap and because I'm wary of the DRM on the physical media.
World of Goo rocks!

I'm also a big fan of the indie titles on Steam. I spend more time with them than I do the "real" games! Peggle, Eets, Aquaria, World of Goo, Defense Grid, I Fluid, The Wonderful End of the World, Audiosurf, etc. are all fun and addicting to varying degrees.

To me, Colonization was worth it...lent it to my brother a few weeks ago though and haven't seen it since...he's loving it :)
Only thing, though, is playing it makes you want to play Civ 4 some more as well.
Colonization is a nice change of pace, but it's no replacement for Civ 4. It's different than the original. There's a review on PiRi by Oxonian (http://www.playitreviewit.com/reviews/pc/strat/sid-meier%27s-civilization-iv--colonizatio/0cU4O2Vy/1) you may want to check out. It's pretty in-depth.

I keep trying to get my brother into Civ 4, but so far he hasn't seen the light. He calls it a waiting simulator.

Wow, that's a great deal!
I often see things like the Orange Box cheaper at retail than they are on Steam. Still, the difference usually isn't large, and there's a lot of stuff on Steam that is really cheap.

Have you played the copies you are talking about? If so, no, I don't think you can transfer. If you have an extra, gift copy, then there should be no problem transferring it.

I'd assume it is a gift copy from purchasing Orange Box after already having HL2 and Ep 1. Tons of people have them, since everyone in the world has already played HL2, and there is no one left to gift them to.

I've avoided HL2 because HL made me sick.
I've recently messed around with mouse sensitivity and may have solved the problem. If I don't need a copy of HL2 to play the episodes, I'd dig a gift copy!

Don't forget to twiddle with the FOV (Field of View)...if I recall correctly, HL2 has a larger FOV than normal, so you should try narrowing it and see how it makes you feel.

I've been trying to give mine away to friends and family since I got them. Maybe it's just the people I know, but it seems like anyone with half an interest in the game and a computer able to run it (ie., was made after 1998) already has it.

I remember having a heck of a time at EvAv trying to give away my gift copies of HL2 and Ep1. I got several PMs from people that registered that day just to get a free game. Took me something like 6 months, but Wonda Mic (hey Everyone vs. Dinosaurs!) posted in the private giveaway thread, so he got mine.
Maybe someone should just start an open thread of "Half Life 2 and HL2 Episode 1 gift copies for gifting"

Actually, thinking about this reminds me of a story that my sister's boyfriend told me. Both of them work at GameStop and someone had returned a Valve game, with key. He was sure that they were scamming the store and had already installed the game.
The store policy is that once something is returned, it is trash, so he took it home and installed it. They had returned the key code in the box, as well, so he registered with that key. The Steam client confirmed his suspicions and indicated that that key was already claimed.
He was able to follow some process that, by either faxing or sending a picture of the key code, he was able to get the rights transferred to him. So, his mission of foiling the scammers succeeded, and he got a free game out of the deal.
The point of the story is, if the thrift shop game has the activation key included, you should be golden.
