Did you really expect anything different?
I didn't even bother to watch the game tonight, and after checking espn.com a little while ago, I'm glad I didn't.
Of course it must be harder on you since you're from Illinois and I'm assuming an actual Cubs fan while I'm just someone who was rooting for them. I knew things would go badly after last night, but I would be glad to look like an idiot if they somehow miraculously come back in the series. :p

The Cubs were THE best team in the National League this year. I expected them to rip through the playoffs, and now they're playing baseball like amateurs.
I will be the happiest man on earth if they come back and win this series though. I have heard that the Dodgers were their biggest competition in the playoffs. So I still have hope.

I'm hoping the Brewers crowd can light a fire under the Brewers asses. They're capable of winning, they just need to get it together.

And that's why you should have expected this to happen. Anytime the Cubs look like they are good enough to do something and people get expectations, that is when they will play the worst and absolutely fail to meet those expectations. They can win when it doesn't matter, and they are doomed to lose in a short series.
Plus everyone acting like it was destiny with the whole 100 years thing couldn't have helped.
(Once again, if they somehow come back to win and it does look like destiny, I'll be happy to have been wrong and that would be pretty epic. :))
Pfft! National League. :p
Same thing is happening to the Angels, 100 regular season wins and they drop the first at Home to the Red Sox. One win at Anaheim is big, another win tomorrow night and I'm a very happy camper with the Red Sox heading back to Fenway with a 2 game lead.

Hey, it worked for the Red Sox.
I don't really remember what people were saying that year. I do remember the Red Sox beating the Yankees after being down 0-3, so perhaps the Cubs can do something similar. I was actually rooting for the Red Sox back then, before they became the Evil Empire themselves.
Since I don't have a local baseball team, I'm sort of a mercenary fan and like several teams all the time, and then every year there are a few teams, players, or storylines that I root for.
My current order of cheering for teams is:
Cubs/Rays > Brewers > Dodgers > Angels/Phillies > Red Sox > White Sox.
I actually hate the White Sox's manager and catcher (won't bother trying to spell his name) so they're really the only team I don't want to win. I actually like a lot of individual Red Sox players, but don't want them to become the new Yankees.
I actually said I would be ok with the Cubs losing as long as the White Sox did too, so sorry for that, Tyler.

I have some friends who have a bet going on that which ever team goes further than the other in the playoffs, Cubs or Sox, the fan of the losing team has to eat 5 live crickets. At this rate it looks like neither of them will be eating anything.
I don't hate the Sox per say, but I hardly ever follow them at all. I was hoping for a Chicago World Series in the way back part of my brain though.

You blame the cold snap for a team from Chicago losing to a team from Los Angeles?
Anyway, as a life long Cubs fan, I am happy to see them playing like they did when I was growing up. I really missed that.

TEOT - Can you answer me this...why are some Cub fans still stupid enough to be wearing those Japanese headband things? They do realize that Kosuke Fukudome has done diddly squat this year, right?
Man it was annoying how prevalent those things were at the start of the season...I would've thought people have wised up but apparently not.

I feel your pain man, with the years I endured the Red Sox, but the Cubs are chokers, like the Angels. To have a lineup like the do, and be totally crippled when it comes to scoring runs, is pitiful. Zombrano pitched well, but it doesn't matter when:
Your team doesn't score runs
Your team makes errors
Maybe when Mark Cuban buys the team.
TheEpicOfTyler
10-02-2008, 10:07 PM
I don't know, I'm not the type to wear sports stuff. Fukudome was impressive at the beginning of the season, but I think that everyone's kind of figured him out. He has been unimpressive as of late. I imagine most people just think that Fukudome is hip or something and don't really pay attention to baseball. There are a lot of 'casual' Cub fans out there.

You have to realize, that Wrigley is the largest outdoor bar in the world. Most people go there in order to get drunk, not to watch baseball. Trust me, I lived 5 blocks from there for 4 years, and I've been there many times.

The one thing I gotta admit that I hate about Brewer fans is that we have/had a pretty good team this year, but there are FAR too many Brewer fans that willingly sell their tickets to Cubs fans during Brewer v Cubs series at Miller Park.
The series at Miller Park, prior to the one at the end of the year, was probably about 70% Cubs, 30% Brewer fans

The Phillies crowd was ridiculous tonight. That 2nd inning was ridiculous, it's almost like they cheered their team to that grand slam.
I was one of the 46,200+ in attendance. That inning was beyond belief. Meyers (the Phil's pitcher) taking 10 pitches at bat only to walk and keep the inning going was epic.
Then Victorino hitting the Grand slam..oh my; it was my first live grand slam viewing ever. The crowd was electric!

The only time I've ever felt anything like this was at Lambeau Field last year during the Packers/Seahawks playoff tilt. I couldn't believe the energy there, it was absolutely unbelievable. I'm pretty sure that Milwaukee will get like that tomorrow, not having been to the postseason in 26 years.

My college golf instructor (at Los Angeles Pierce College, where Coco Crisp and Barry Zito started out! oh yeah!) is a scout for the Cubs. He was assigned to watch the Dodgers and report everything. We lost a week of class because he followed the Dodgers on the road trip to end the season. Because he was the most experienced scout in the organization, he was assigned the team that the management felt was the most dangerous. From his reports, the only chance the Cubs have is if they can pound on Broxton, he's the one major weakness in the Dodgers pitching staff right now.

The Angels are killing me here. They're playing like they used to play when they were still owned by Disney and sucked hard. Though, the Red Sox are starting to turn into that evil empire from NY, so I really don't want the Sox to win.

So (and I pose this as a serious question) with both the Cubs & Brewers 1 game away from elimination, which is worse
1. The Cubs being swept (despite their somewhat constant appearances in the playoffs) when "this is the year" or
2. The Brewers being swept in their 1st playoff appearance in 26 years?
Really a toss up between the team that goes to the playoffs but hasn't won a title in almost 100 years and the team that has only gone once in 26

I now believe that the Dodgers will make it to the World Series. If they play Tampa Bay, they win, if they play the Red Sox, it will be an interesting series.
