Scene: A very large room, which is centered with a 50 inch LCD television. Attached to the television are three video game consoles. Laying around the floor, scattered mindlessly are various open and closed video game boxes. Along the floor are pizza boxes, opened cans and bottles of energy drinks. There is also open Chinese food containers with some of the contents spilled on the floor. In front of the television is a sofa. On the sofa is a male snoring as he sleeps. He is wearing video gaming shorts and a t-shirt with some writing on it. He appears to be holding a video game controller in his hand. A gaming clock (won from a Child’s Play contest) displays it is 6:00am Monday morning.

<There is a knock on the door. The man on the sofa awakens>

Video Gamer: huh…what. Who the fuck is it?
Unknown knocker: This is the Canadian Monday Blues police.
Video Gamer: The Who? You better get away from my door…
Unknown knocker: Sir, we have it on good knowledge you spent the weekend playing a Superman video game. It’s time you went back to work.
Video Gamer: I’m on vacation!
Unknown Knocker: Your vacation has been revoked sir! We are the Monday Blues police, and we are here to take you to work.
Video Gamer: Spigot. Damn Spigot. He ratted me out. I’m going to enjoy myself…whoever you are you can go…
Unknown Knocker: Sir, we are coming in. <busting through the door is a Canadian looking mountie. The mountie double jumps onto the video gamer. As the video gamer rolls away from the attack, he grabs his toy light saber.
Video Gamer: Stand back! I’ll use this.
Mountie: It is my duty as the Monday blues police to bring you to work. I’m sorry Xerxes your weekend is over. <The mountie throws an object at Xerxes, while Xerxes flails at it with his light saber. The object knocks Xerxes backwards allowing enough time to use his double dash to grab Xerxes binding him.
Xerxes: Nooooo. I’m on vacation. See my list of games. I have to finish them. What will the CoGer’s think …
Mountie: It’s a short week. Weekend gaming will be here soon enough. Now off to work we go. Hi ho..hi ho…off to work we go…<whistles tune. Xerxes continues to struggle as he looks longingly toward his Superman video game.
Curtain down. Dark.

Inspired by Xerxes and Spigot from the Weekend Gaming thread.

So what did you PLAY?

Hmmm...don't think I played anything over the weekend. Weird. I did read Ender's Game, so that's pretty cool, right?

I played darkSector and Aquaria. Both good fun but Aquaria's getting a bit tricky.

Persona 4, when I wasn't grading finals or cleaning or doing some preliminary Christmas meal shopping (gotta get the turkey thawing).

Did catch a couple of cheaters. Two people took the final, then switched tests before putting their names on them. Sad, because one of them was almost guaranteed to pass (which is probably why he felt he had nothing to lose switching tests) and the other was pretty much guaranteed to fail since her grade sucked so bad coming into the final. Now they both get to fail and get this on their permanent record. If it were up to me, I'd have them expelled immediately, but that's beyond my power.

I wondered if you would have anytime for gaming. Good to hear you had some fun with P4. I didn't even touch P3 i'm so obsessed with Prince of Persia. I need to learn how to play more than one game at a time...

That sucks about the students. How did you know they did that? I can't imagine why someone would risk that. Of course, I get scared just reading about the university code of conduct about plagiarism. Even accidental plagiarism (forgetting a citation) could lead to expulsion (most likely not but it could happen). So plagiarism is something I feared whenever I wrote a paper. I probably over cite if anything.

I remember one year, I went to see my grades posted on the professor's office door. There was an ominous note stating he found 4 people in my class who had plagiarized. They were not only going to fail, but recommended to be expelled. I can still feel that sick feeling in my stomach even though I wasn't one of the guilty parties.

Consequence of your actions. This is something I stress in therapy groups. Think through an iffy decision. Picture yourself having done that action and what could happen. Thinking about how you are probably sitting there going "I need to take that back..." might be enough to avoid making bad decisions. Let's hope the failing grades as well as the embarrassment of being caught will be a deterrent for future poor decisions from these students.

I have a trial of bbv gamerpass so this weekend I played:

Baja Edge of Control - not bad, high learning curve for control
Rise of the Argonauts - blah. too many camera and game glitches
NFS Undercover - Not too bad, has cop chases and the driving was solid
Tombraider Underworld - control issues (can't run to wall and jump to catch ledge like in PoP), camera at times had you looking through a wall, very dark at times.

-----
And a few CoD WaW rounds, lvl 40 now.

I don't think you could ever do that in a TR game. Those aren't control issues..that's TR gameplay :). Besides, PoP is suppose to be a simple, fluid and elegant game. It's suppose to be the ballet...opposed to TR which is nothing stated above. After PoP, I need to immerse myself once again in the flaws of TR. How I love the flaws though...

Sorry about the long off-topic rant, but since you asked and it's fresh in my mind, it went down like this:

The class is a pass-fail remedial algebra class. Coming into the final, there were three people whose grades were so good they didn't need to take the final. Since the final was scheduled for 7:30, I let them know so they wouldn't have to wake up. One of these three people comes to the test, and I ask why he was there since he didn't need to take it. He mumbled something, and in my optimistic naivety I assumed he wanted to see how he'd do.

He finishes his test the same time as the girl sitting one seat over. Since they get up at the same time, he hands his test to her and she gives them to me together. I didn't think much of it at the time, except to wonder why it took him so long to finish the test, since he was usually pretty fast.

Anyway, as I'm grading the tests, I'm surprised both by how well she is doing and how badly he is doing. I don't suspect anything at first, I honestly thought she must have studied her ass off and he was having a very VERY off day. It finally dawned on me that the two of them were doing very uncharacteristic of their usual work, and more like the person sitting next to them.

Surprisingly, their handwriting didn't immediately scream "this one's a boy!" and "this one's a girl!" So I went through the old assignments that hadn't been picked up. Out of the whole semester's worth of about forty homework and quizzes, I had four things she hadn't picked up and just one thing he hadn't picked up. I look at the homework, going "I'm not handwriting expert, what the fuck to I expect to find?" Then I noticed the way they write their x's is very different. Hers are just two straight lines, his has a bit of flourish to it. Sure enough, comparing the tests confirmed that his test had her name and vice versa. I felt like a motherfucking detective.

The worst part is she was almost guaranteed to fail no matter what she got on the test, her grade was that bad coming into the final. So now she fails anyway, and he gets to fail on top of that despite having one of the highest grades in the class. And this goes on their records, and if I had anything to say about it, they'd be expelled.

I fucking hate cheaters. There are people in these classes that struggle all semester and have to fight tooth and nail for a still crappy grade because they just don't have the talent for it. My heart goes out to them. And then some people come along and try to be lazy and fake it right at the end.

"Accidental" plagiarism is one thing. I could see forgetting to cite something that you should have and making and argument that it was innocent. This seemed to be a test to see how stupid I am.

Uncharted all the way through on Hard. That's more gaming than I usuaully get in on a weekend, finished just short of 10 hours. I know I'll go back and play through again on the hardest setting before 2 comes out, that game is just so damn great.

I also played some LBP co-op with a friend who just picked up a PS3 for the game. Had a lot of fun last night playing through some of the community levels, there's a lot of really good stuff out there.

EDIT: I also finally remembered to buy Linger In Shadows yesterday, man that thing is weird. Totally worth the $3, though, even if only to support whoever did the fantastic music for it. I need to go through that a few more times looking for all the weird hidden stuff.

Played through most of Conan for 360, until I hit a game-ending glitch. Now I can't beat the game--I don't have a save far enough back to allow me to get around the bug. I was so pissed I packed up the game and put it back on my shelf. It was fun but it's going to be traded back in now.

Also, some more braid. About 4 or 5 pieces left, all in one world. I might attempt it tonight. Man, that game hurts the brain sometimes.

@Frederec: No worry about the derail. Since I did ask...and we derail all the time in this thread. I actually encourage it :D. I'll be banned one day due to that encouragement ;)

That is one sad story. Sad as in how really lame was that attempt. And remedial algebra? A P/F class? Well there is no logic in poor decisions. I loved your detective work though. Very clever to go back and compare handwriting. All I have to say, for that guy...i hope the "favors" he got for doing that test cheating was worth it. I can't imagine any other reason he did that other than for some sexual favors. Unless that was his gf or something...a fool and their "A" grade are soon parted...

My wife went straight to assuming sexual favors too. She said pretty much what you did. I countered with "Nerds generally don't get sexual favors for services rendered, not in real life. At least I was never offered any. Then again, I never helped anyone cheat. Hmmm...maybe that was why I didn't get those offers." I hate it when I defeat my own arguments.

I don't think they were together during the semester, just because there was always an empty spot between the two of them, and their grades hadn't had any correlation so far this semester. I suspect when I announced in class what it took to not have to take the final, she noticed he was one of the lucky few and approached him.

Some P4 - restarted again because I somehow managed to completely screw up my game.

Minor amounts of King's Bounty, SMT:Imagine.

I was all over the place with my gaming this weekend.

I managed to knock out a level in Warhammer: Online. 33 now and still enjoying it. Just hard to find time to play an MMO with a newborn in the house.

I put in some time with FFIV on the DS while I was helping a couple friends re-format and fix their computers (God I love working on computers on a Saturday night /sigh).

I started Persona 3 just to see what it was like. I got through the intro and explored the first level of Tartarus (it sounds like toothpaste!). I was kinda bored at first but now that I have a taste of the battle system, I'm starting to see why so many people on this site rant and rave about how great it is. I plan on giving this game my full devotion for many hours once I knock out a few other, quicker games that I have in my backlog.

The little guy was sleeping great on Sunday so I got a chance to put in a few hours of Far Cry 2 on the PC. Great game, amazing graphics. I just wish it would let me travel from point A to B without being run off the road by a couple of guys in a jeep who need an attitude adjustment.

Left 4 Dead

I think I'm ready to play with some of you all now. Played with a friend in off-line co-op and had a blast. Every night over the weekend, I've had dreams about zombies or the first few days of the infection. Now I'm hitting the point when the fear is taking a back-seat to common sense instead of inducing straight-on panic attacks.

Also found a used copy of Unreal Tournament III for 360 at a local CD Game Exchange. The price was $20, but they were having a holiday sale for $16! I picked it up for the split-screen online action so the Mrs and I can go online and kick ass together. The price was so low, I felt like I was robbing them.

Bought Meteos wars and played that with the GF, quite fun. I love those Q games tunes.

Some GTA4 (got my first trophy)

Cleared a dungeon in Zelda PH.

I tried some Last Remnant, don't think it will be big part in my gaming life but it's ok I guess.

The rest, and yet again, Fallout 3, 6-7 hours of it. Give me one of those every 3 months and I would buy 4 games a year instead of 12-15. Nothing else really captures me anymore since I got that, it's just sooo good.

Lots of World of Warcraft. I'm really enjoying my Death Knight. Got in some LBP with the kids...very fun. Can't wait for my Old Snake Sackboy this week.

Finished the new PoP - Really liked it.
Started LBP... it's fun, but the "Dream type screen fade" at the corners bugs me. Had to crank the gamma way up. I get the impression this game is in a strange resolution as when i quit out of it, it appears the font is larger on the quit screen... is this normal or do I have to change a setting?

Started Dead Space as well. this could be great! I like it so far.
Also picked up Super Stardust HD. It's like Geometry Wars, but I can make it past the first 3 minutes!

I am torn between showing my PS3 some love and playing more LBP and Dead Space, or going back to the 360 and finally starting Gears 2!

Forgot to mention, I started my 5 year old son on Wipe Out HD... Man i'm proud of the little gamer :)

Played a little Left4Dead. My daughter from NYC had never played it so we set her up in a multi-player game with my son. Good times! She was soooo freaked it was hilarious! Her first response" "Oh no! They're FAST Zombies!" She's a big Zombie aficionado. Here she is at Zombie-con bobbing for brains:

She's the blonde on the left.

Also played a bit of The Witcher. Didn't finish Act III, but I think I'm close. Got one-hit killed by the Queen Kikamore several times... Need to rethink my tactics!

Spent a lot of time driving family around in the snow; kids to and from work, my wife and kids out shopping. Went out a couple of times just to keep my adrenaline level up! I confess: I'm a junkie! It's like an hour long auto crash with no final impact! My shoulders and neck are totally knotted up. I'll have to get my wife some massage oil for Christmas!

We did stop at Barnes & Nobel. I picked up a couple Warhammer books for myself, some books as presents and The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski - The Witcher book! Sweet!

Prince of Persia (360) is the only game I've been playing for the last couple of weeks. It's taking me a while since I haven't had much time for gaming recently. I love the game. It's a strange experience since it's really easy, but the storytelling and characters makes it an awesome experience. The combat is it's weak spot though. If the sequel addresses this it'll be close to perfect.

I don't really mind the combat too much. There's not so much variety involved in it, but it seems to fit the style of the game.

I spent most of Friday and Sunday evening playing Fallout 3. This game is huge. I'm only now after 16+ hours getting back on the main quest with finding Galaxy News Radio (which is practically the beginning of the main quest). The side quests are great and very extensive.

I played a ton of Spiderman: Web of Shadows. I am enjoying it, but glad I got it on the cheap. I have a regular cycle of disappointment when playing Spiderman games since 2 (which was mostly awesome throughout, and the only one in the series to have great web swinging). When I first start playing, I get really into it, play for hours upon hours, and go after all the stupid subquests. Then, my interest starts to wane, and I play through the story, avoiding the bullshit subquests. Then, I get really bored with the game, and drop it completely. I am currently in the waning interest phase.

I ended up doing the three things that I thought I might:

1) L4D - I did get to play some vs. with the gang, but the timing has been poor since that first time.

I have been having a blast with random pickup games of co-op. It is interesting how varied the players are, at least on Normal. Some games, everyone is on the same page, while others have one player who doesn't get that it might not be a good idea to shoot the witch (and keeps going out of his way to do so).

It really is neat how the game isn't the same every time. I played No Mercy twice in one night, the first time I was left behind in the finale. The second, a tank killed me in the finale, and then two of the others were left behind, with only Francis surviving.

I also played my first co-op on Advanced last night. The finale of Blood Harvest is a bitch - we all died too many times to count trying, first, to get through that damn cornfield and then just trying to defend the extraction point. Good times. I did notice that it seemed that the players in Advanced were all competent, which makes sense since you likely aren't going to change until you know what you are doing.

2) HL2 - As I have previously mentioned, I received the Orange Box for Xmas last year. I was pumped about Portal and exhausted that game. Then, I discovered the joys of playing with you people on TF2. TF2 sucked most of my free time for quite awhile. In fact, I only recently, within the last week, started playing HL2.

Having waited so long to play, I was surprised how well the graphics stood up: while they aren't phenomenal when compared to brand new games, it didn't hurt my eyes to look at.

I am in the process of making my way through a prison with an army of Lion-Ants. Unfortunately for HL2, L4D is jealous for my time. Fortunately, L4D tends to take a fixed amount of time per campaign and has easy points to take a break to play something else.

3) Garry's Mod - I bought this ages ago on a whim when I saw some of my other TF2 buddies screwing around with it. It occurred to me that I might be able to pose some L4D models now.

While the mod does not interact directly with the models like it does with HL2, CS, TF2 and Portal, you can download all of them from a link from garrysmod.com. I found that I was a bit rusty with the way of working with things in GMod, and I think the face poser (at least in my copy) is corrupt -- picking something like "Happy" creates a distorted, elongated face, but it was fun, anyway.

Now that the weekend is done, I will likely continue screwing around with those three games for the duration of the week, even though I did pick up STALKER for $5 from Steam.

If anyone is interested, I will probably be looking for a co-op game on Advanced this evening in L4D.

Left 4 Dead multiplayer and I got through BlackSite: Area 51 (one I don't think I listed in my backlog post) and most of the way through Fracture.

I also fired up CSI (another one I didn't have on my list) and got through the first mission in that. An easy 200 Gamerscore, and the story was actually pretty good. Personally I had the crime pinned on the wrong person until getting some of the last evidence.

Progressed through my second playthrough of TWEWY. I've got some new pins that I never used the first time around.

Picked up the title update (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/12/20/rare-releases-text-enlarging-nuts-and-bolts-update/) for Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, which means I can actually play the game now. Damn small text ruining my fun....until now! I'm slowly progressing through the game. I think I currently have 31 jiggies. Since I've sold Fallout 3, Banjo is now my slow-burn game of choice.

Played a bit of Expert guitar and Hard drums in Rock Band 2. I'm still not used to the difficulty level of Hard as a drummer, especially in regards to the kick pedal, but I'm progressing nicely for someone who has never played drums before.

Gah! Don't fix the combat in PoP (aside from making some of the boss fights a little less reliant on QTE's). I loved how understated and almost absent it was. Remember the last time they tried to fix combat in a PoP game? Yeah. It was called Warrior Within. BEWARE!!!

Anyway, I beat Prince Of Persia (yay) and got to work on a few other games in my collection. Persona 4 got a good chunk of play (finished the first 'case' and am doing some tidy up stuff before I let time really start progressing again). Surprisingly enough, I just fired up Linger In Shadows again today after not touching it for a month or two. Got another trophy!

I also spent a pretty good chunk of time playing some games on Steam. I have been working mainly on Aquaria and Strong Bad Ep. 1. I have to go work an overnight shift tonight and as long as the satellite internet connection is working, I might be spending a good chunk of time catching up on the last couple years' worth of SB E-mails :)

I also played some Chrono Trigger DS, but not as much as I wanted to. I also spent a chunk of time fiddling with my PSP as I have made the leap from a 1GB to an 8GB memory stick, so that is niiiiice.

Mrs. Spigot took the Spiglets to the in-laws today and I won't be joining them until Saturday, so I have a lot of uninterrupted gaming time this week. I'm so excited!

I finished Assassin's Creed. It was pretty good. I loved the story but the last couple hours of gameplay just seemed to drag. I felt like the difficulty ramped up a little too much at the end. I'm really curious about what happens next.

I saw you playing that on Steam over the weekend and I wanted to ask you if you were enjoying it. I'm disappointed to hear that the game is so buggy, even now. EA's support of their PC titles is usually mediocre at best, if not outright dismal.

I didn't get in as much gaming as I wanted to this weekend, but I did have time to play one game.

Sins of a Solar Empire! I played a single player game on Saturday for several hours. I logged back in on Sunday to wrap it up, and ended up playing a 4x4 with Voodoo and some of his friends instead. We spent 1.5-2 hours decimating our enemies. It was a blast and I look forward to playing more online with the COGers when the expansion hits!

I think I played a bit of something else, but to be honest I can't even remember what it was, if anything. I did buy Aquaria, but I haven't had time to try it out yet.

I saw you playing that on Steam over the weekend and I wanted to ask you if you were enjoying it. I'm disappointed to hear that the game is so buggy, even now. EA's support of their PC titles is usually mediocre at best, if not outright dismal.

It's really odd, the bugs with this game, especially considering Spore and Dead Space cause me *0* issues whatsoever. I think I blame this Demiurge outfit that did the translation.

I do see why people say it's the definitive version of the game. The controls of the PC version work a lot better, and the UI is vastly improved - not great, but far better.

However, the problems I'm having are odd - mostly the problem is that the game is *really* sensitive with respect to the video driver - even odd aspects of its state it should be able to reset/clear. Often times, I end up having to reboot my machine to even start the game, and quicksaving a lot to protect against process lockups at odd moments. In addition, it has a bad habit of leaving the driver in an odd state.

However, I'm enjoying it a lot more than I did on the 360.

Gah! Don't fix the combat in PoP (aside from making some of the boss fights a little less reliant on QTE's). I loved how understated and almost absent it was. Remember the last time they tried to fix combat in a PoP game? Yeah. It was called Warrior Within. BEWARE!!!

I finished the game last night. What an epic game for me. But first to the thought on the combat. I must say I didn't love the combat. For me it wasn't an issue of being broken. I am not a combo fighting type gamer. One, I can't memorize for shit and I rarely could pull off the real helpful combos. So any game that has combos, usually they will allow you to get away with a couple and you can hack and slash your way through.

Not so in PoP. Maybe it's just me but I thought the game, in it's overall scheme, giving you something simple but that grows to be much more complex. I know Kelegacy complained about the QTE's. Now I have a theory about them. In the early part of the game when I was trying to hack and slash my way through the various pre-bosses and bosses, which meant hitting the X button a lot continuously, the boss would easily counter and then you would get the RT flash to counter. What I realized was to use other combos and to wait for openings, I saw less QTE's. Maybe it's just me. But I thought it was the game "teaching" you in a very clever way to get you to play the right way. And this was frustrating. I felt I had to watch for openings, actually be patient. that's not a gift of mine when I play games. I'm not really good at playing fighting games looking for openings etc. I felt as if i was playing Street Fighter.

However, after the last boss was vanquished...I felt I understood the combat better. Doesn't mean I look forward to that combat anytime soon, however I undersand it's simple but elegant way it was trying to be. I felt the same with the one button pushing. Yes the actual moves were done for you but the button pushing did get complex enough where there is some trial and error. Sorry to the Uber gamers out there who found it to easy. I'm not sure what game they were playing. I didn't find it easy at all. Challenging, yes...and that ending...that was a bit broken for me...I felt as if i was suddenly in a black and white movie watching my characters through a tiny telescope. And I don't want to climb a vine in a game for while. That ending kinda has me seizing at the visual of a vine :).

I really loved this game. I liked some of the concepts that I would like other games to "borrow". The not dying is one. I know this annoys many. But if there is a way I don't have to watch loading screens and/or not have the ability to save anywhere I would like to see this. I also liked the bosses and the recharging health bar. If I did good, bar goes down. Instead of giving me a health bar, if I did "bad" the bar goes up. I found that much more tension filling...and more cursing at the bar...when it went up and I realized I made a bad tactical move. It made me pay attention. That's not easy for a game to get me to do. I felt totally immersed in this game. I am actually sad it's over. And speaking of over...a public announcement to those who will play this game...if you are collecting seeds and going for particular achievements, make sure you do that in the first go around. In other words, finish all what you want to achieve BEFORE going back to the temple for the last time. I found that out the hard way. Luckily I almost collected all the seeds I thought I was going to do. Although I thought I might go find them all...not now.

Sorry for the long love letter to PoP. It's a game that I think most gamers should at least try. Whatever price you pay for it...or rent if you can...it's a game worth experiencing.

Ouch. I feel terrible I keep ignoring you. Don't toss me off your friends list just yet ;). Yeah, as you can see I get into a game and it's impossible to pull me out. PoP was just one of those games. But after I finished and wanted to go back to check something out (wanting to collect more seeds but found I couldn't ) JayVe popped me an invite. And then I went to play some L4D with him. But I promise...next time I get an invite from Kielaran i'm ripping out whatever i'm playing and playing some L4D :D

And Spigot where are you hiding? I was hoping you would be on last night to come join our zombie fest with Jayve. I had a blast getting to play versus for the first time. I must say...I thought I really am bad as a survivor...i'm worse as a zombie! Good times playing though. I am going to eventually have to buy this game from GF...

Purple Santa: I loved the 'not dying' aspect of PoP a lot. There were enough sequences where you'd still have to redo a large chunk of wall-running/plate-hopping/what have you if you screwed up, so it's not as though there was no penalty in the game. This just meant that I didn't have to sit through an obligatory load screen... Elika's hand was my load screen.

And I was working the overnight shift last night. I tried to nap earlier in the evening last night (feh) and when that didn't work I just played some Strong Bad Ep. 1 and watched TV till work. I just got home so now I'm going to bed, but if you see me on later today, fire me an invite. I'm home alone until Saturday, so I can even kill zombies during the day!

I knew you said you were alone this week. I didn't figure on you still working...that would make sense...you do have games and a basement to pay for ;). I'll try to be on during the day to look for you then...

And the Elika was your loading screen...that sounded so erotic...this is so pathetic on so many levels...i'm truly a geek :o

You and Kelegacy wanted to talk about the ending. I'm dying (no pun intended) to talk about what you guys thought. Just go to the PoP ending thread...we talk way to much in here and we'll end up spoiling it even with spoiler tags.

I agree with you on the dying and plenty of challenge left to do. There was lots of trial and error and redo. It just wasn't as painful as Mirror's Edge or a Tomb Raider can be. Which is why I call this game simple but elegant. I loved the way this game was designed. How did you like the "running" and "flying" magic powers? I cursed mightily when i made mistakes doing those. It's why I said..not sure who found it easy...you go Uber gamer...mr. old gamer here is happy he can still find games that I can finish ;)

I don't know if your ears were ringing or not last night but I was channeling the Yoda Spigot a lot. Lots of chanting "I can do this" because..well...that end part was a tad frustrating. I know now why I saw you so long at the "Ahriman tower" when i was peeking in on XBL to see what you were playing.

How'd you like Fracture and BlackSite? I thought Fracture to be enjoyable, and have been debating getting Blacksite if I find it cheap.

I agree. It is very difficult to pick up where I left off, especially on RPGs. Fable is actually kinda nice in that respect. Pick a quest from your log, follow the sparkling trail, and you'll find yourself slipping back into the game fairly quickly.

ADD has been waiting for a chance to really play that too. Although she was all excited about it when it came out, she couldn't put the time she wanted to into it. She played Fable 1 over xmas break, and played all day with no interuptions. I think she believes that is what is needed for Fable 2, or what she needs to do to play.

Be sure to let us know how the book is! I'm curious. :)

Wait, is that the first Witcher book? Interesting....

It's quite good! It's a collection of short stories tied together within an ongoing story; kind of a "Remember when..." form.

I was a bit concerned that the translation might be a bit lackluster or lifeless, but it's a fun and exciting read.

The first story was the basis for the intro movie in the game. Incredibly cool! They handled it well!

The book provides a little more insight as to what's going on in the world and what's going on in Geralt's head. Dandelion is fleshed out quite a bit also.

It's got the Buddha's Library Seal Of Approval!

She would feel horribly guilty if she found out. She had every intention of playing when she bought it. But she overestimated the amount of time she would have. She's used to playing hours on end...unlike more "seasoned" gamers who know how to play for short spurts...like under marathon sessions she usually does. Also, she found the game to be more complex than the first. I think this spooked her a bit and she decided to put it off. But you are in luck...she's going to be playing again and will do co-op with you since you both want to finish the game first then do co-op.

Gah. I'm done being nice to people!

I slept till noon today and then spent the rest of the day (until 1:30am!) driving around with my friends as they spent FOREVER grocery shopping and so forth. I did get a great Japanese meal out of the deal, but people should not be allowed to spend upwards of 45 minutes in the produce aisle... at 10:30pm... 2 days before Christmas... in the middle of a nasty snowstorm!

So much for playing anything today. I'm just waiting for Lumines to finish downloading and I'll play it a bit before bed. All I know is that I have the house to myself all day tomorrow with nowhere to go and nobody to see or talk to. I'm gaming all day long and either popping out for a Christmas Eve service at one of the local churches or else just gaming some more and consuming massive amounts of 'special' egg nog.

Stupid snowstorm and produce aisles...

Purple Santa: I didn't mind the flying/running sections. There were a couple parts that annoyed me but nothing that even came remotely close to the kind of controller shattering frustration I've become accustomed to in some games this fall (Mirror's Edge and The Force Unleashed, I'm looking at you).

What were your friend(s) buying that it took that long to shop? Is someone having a family feast of 100 people? Or is your friend someone from the Food Network? If that's the case...very cool :). In any case...what a good friend you are. I need to live in Canada...only friends I have off this board are the one's who only want to make "deals". I'll let your imagination wander on what kind of deals could be made...on a street corner...

The flying/running wasn't frustrating. Challenging but I tend to be easily challenged...although some of the flying controls were a bit "wtf" do i do to turn so I don't hit a wall? But again, that was more me than the game.

On the other hand, I'M SO LONELY! Well, not so much... My imaginary friends (you guys) keep me company.

Oh, and I'm 99% certain that my friend has OCD. She spent a good hour in the produce section alone. Gah. Not buying things... just checking every last piece of veggie and fruit she was buying. I pity her husband so...

It was ok though. The longer they took, the more stuff I put in their cart to buy for me. I have munchies and lunch for the next two days :)

It's just that being stuck at a grocery store pushing midnight the night before the night before Christmas is not what I wanted to do with my kid-free/wife-free week!

Heh. I thought you were going to bed.

I was almost about to make a Weekend Gaming thread if for no other reason than the fact that I'm about to pass out if I don't keep myself busy... Only 15 minutes to go though... yay!

That was at 3:30am! And I did go to bed. I just slept for a short time...

Hopefully you found the Weekend Gaming thread...unless you need the magical bread crumbs since you are so tired...

Feel free to do Monday Blues for me. I won't have internet access where i'm disappearing for a few days...

I know you've heard this over a dozen times, but...you've gotta set up your queue right. :p

No.

I did EXACTLY what you guys said, and in return they sent me...NOTHING.

NADA.

ZIP.

ZILCH.

I had to add a game or I wasn't going to get anything at all.

Ok Mags, I have the Uno code. I think we need to set up a night where we all can play. We can banter back and forth in here...or weekend gaming to continue...hopefully we can lure in others to come join...

And speaking of Weekend gaming, I need to make that thread...

I'm definitely up for this. Let me know what nights you are available and we can figure out something that works.

If you mean the clearing the queue trick, I can't speak for that 'cause I've never tried that. What I have tried is the new releases thing where you send back right in time for the new release to be available. If you miss the new releases, though, it's usually a great opportunity to roll through some old DS games...

I'm just some "married" guy :). I'm available all nights. It's you swinging singles I work around :p. Seriously, i'm working around everyone else since I can make time. I'll ask Spigot..he wanted in on this too...

Well in that case, I'm free tonight for sure, although it would have to be fairly early as I have to work in the morning. :/

Otherwise later tomorrow night would work, after I play Sins of a Solar Empire with Smoof. Or possibly Sunday, if Avakus skips out on playing L4D with me, which he probably will.

Otherwise I'm free almost every evening next week, at least so far.

Kojak will be joining us? Great! :)

I am glad that I'm getting the DS games, as I've been looking forward to playing both of them. Still, I'd be really glad if they would actually arrive in a reasonable amount of time. I sent Civilization Revolutions back on Monday the 15th, and I have yet to receive another game.

Well, I'll be around tonight guys. The forecast is basically for freezing rain all along the route I have to take to reunite with my family so I'll just stay home one last glorious kid-free evening and play Uno and P4. I'll check in in here later if you guys want to pick a time to start dealing cards :)

I just realized you're in the Midwest, which may be the worst place to live for GameFly. I go to school in Chicago, and the turnaround time probably goes up by around 3-4 days.

Let's pick something reasonable. I have to be in bed by 10pm central time at the latest so that I can get up at 5am tomorrow for work.

They absolutely need a distribution center in Chicago or Minneapolis. It's criminal that they are ignoring such a huge part of the country.

I'm going to go fire up P4 for a little bit (packing and cleaning is done!) but I'll keep checking in here or on my friends list on Xbox.com to see when people are getting on the 360 and we can have a little Uno party :)

See you in an hour or two!
