View Full Version : Problems viewing public profiles

I'm having difficulty viewing any public profiles on the site, including my own.

When I'm viewing a list of forums, sub-forums or threads and select a user's name (from the "Last Post" column, or the thread starter), I can see their profile. The problem only seems to occur when trying to select a username inside a thread, or using the "Your Profile" link in my control panel.

When clicking on a username or selecting "View Public Profile" from the dropdown menu, I get a white page with something similar to this at the top:
404 Error - Not Found www.colonyofgamers.com 68.50.57.140 /cogforums/429
This problem is occurring consistently when viewing the site in Firefox (version 3.0.5). Safari seems to work without difficulty. Don't know if my OS has anything to do with it, but I'm running OS X version 10.4.11.

Oh, and my name doesn't appear in the Members List. :(

Hmm, that's odd. I don't get the 404 error, and I'm also running Firefox on OS X. However, I'm on Firefox (Version 3.0.4) and OS X (Version 10.5.5).

Also, weird about not being on the members list. :(

This part is extra odd, because I know that I went to your profile at least twice by way of the member's list after you first signed up.

Do you have any greasemonkey scripts or other Firefox add-ons?

The member list thing is weird. I thought maybe the admins had recently changed the config to only show members with more than X posts (which is possible to do) but there are plenty of members with 0 posts still showing.

All I can think of is that your 8 posts have put you into a custom usergroup which has been configured to not show on the member list. It's possible in vB to put people in specific groups based on post count and it's possible to say whether or not people in a usergroup show up in the member list... but this all sounds really implausable! Stumped.

/edit - I had a very unscientific search through the member list but couldn't find anyone else with 8 posts either. That proves it! ;)

I had not even considered it as the problem, but I shut off all my add-ons and re-enabled them one by one -- sure enough, I had a Greasemonkey script that was causing the problem. Added CoG to the 'excluded pages' for the script, and now my difficulties have vanished. Thank you, sir!

As for the member list - I wish it was that simple. Unfortunately, I haven't seen myself listed at 5, 6, or 7 posts either. It was a compelling argument, though! :D

Are you sure you didn't accidentally set yourself to be invisible somehow, which can be done via the User CP? Or perhaps something messed and you got set as invisible.

I just found that option listed in the FAQ, but it is not visible in my User CP. I'm assuming that's because I'm pretty new here?
I guess the invisibility might just be a glitch of some kind. It doesn't seem to affect my ability to post, so I probably shouldn't worry about it too much.

It's not the invisibility mode. People with invisibility switched on are still viewable in the member list.

This is definitely a mystery, but like you say, it's not affecting anything.

Same issue, but I think I've found out why; no clue on how to fix it though. C'mon admins, help us out here.
