Borderlands if it actually lives up to it's promise. That game could be great.

I love me some RPGs, so Dragon Age it is.

This poll has six choices other than Brutal Legend it doesn't need.

If it were coming to PC like most of the others, I might consider it.

Tough call. I'm pretty evenly split between Alpha Protocol and Dragon Age. And even though I find the setting of Alpha Protocol more intriguing, my vote goes to Dragon Age on the basis of Bioware's far better track record than Obsidian in the last several years.

Brutal Legend. Hopefully, the love that Psychonauts has earned Double Fine will result in this game being a fiscal success as well as a critical one (though Psychonauts did actually sell a lot of copies over the years as a sleeper/cult favorite).

These other games also look great. . . though I'm honestly not sure about Dragon Age.

Does Ghostbusters count as a new property?

In any case, I'm looking forward to Alpha Protocol and Infamous, will probably get Dragon Age, and Borderlands could be neat if it lives up to its promise. But all those choices must kneel down and bow before Brutal Legend.

I picked Prototype because it was the only one I've heard of. :o

The little gameplay clips I've seen from Prototype all looked amazing. In a Crackdown sort of way.

Brutal Legend should be a lot of fun but the trailer that was shown on Spike wasn't convincing.

It's a toss up between Borderlands, Dragon Age: Origins, Prototype but I think I am going to have to go with the game I think I will have the most fun with in an oldschool play mechanic sort of way. My vote goes to Prototype.

Just a quick heads up Dragon Age is also coming to the 360 and most likely the PS3 as well.

I know I'm not, mostly because I do not like Bioware's RPGs. Then again, I think I may be the only one.

Brutal Legends will be drenched in repetitive Jack Black one liners. However, I'm sure it'll be good.

I was the lone guy who went inFamous just for the premise alone.

As of right now I'd have to go with Alan Wake, but it's not on the list. I know that Ghostbusters will suck, and EA's involvement with Brutal Legend kind of scares me. I trust Tim Schafer, but not EA or Jack Black. Tough call.

I'd like to second the disappointment of no Heavy Rain on the list.

Brutal Legend followed by inFamous, Heavy Rain and Saboteur (forgot about this one I bet...)

Are either one of those confirmed for next year?

Oh, what about White Knight Chronicles? Wasn't Level 5's RPG also a 2009 (planned) release?

DoctorFinger
12-20-2008, 11:21 AM
I put Ghostbusters here because it's been at least a decade since the last game, so I think that counts as a new franchise IMO.

Alan Wake isn't on partly because I don't have confidence it'll come out in 09, and partly because I'm not sure it would have displaced any of the 7 other selections.

No Heavy Rain? How is this possible?

Yeah that is mine, but these bitches be a bunch of Microsoft fanboys yo.

I think it is hard to anticipate a sequel to a game dozens of people liked.

I went with Prototype. The ambition of the world and the ideas behind it intrigue me. I just hope it skews more to say STALKER than something like GTA, Just Cause, Crackdown cookie cutter nonsense. I have been in enough living breathing worlds where I can do whatever I want...so long as all I want to do is shoot guns and drive poorly realized cars.

Yeah that is mine, but these bitches be a bunch of Microsoft fanboys yo.
That explains why Alan Wake is topping the poll at the moment. Oh, wait...

Hey, look, the poll is wrong - there's one PS3 exclusive and NO Xbox 360 ones on the list.

Prototype. Any other choice is bogus.
Yeah, but will it come out in 2009? :)

I didn't consider it, mostly due to the fact I don't "anticipate" it will be released any time soon. If it is, I worry about game play because of how similar it looks to State of Emergency.

I know I'm not, mostly because I do not like Bioware's RPGs. Then again, I think I may be the only one.
I've enjoyed everything they've made in the last 10 years except for Jade Empire. . . but that was their first go at an action RPG. Mass Effect shows that they learned something about how to make them from Jade Empire. . . also Jade Empire's load screens were frequent and long.

inFamous is the only game that always pops into my head when I think of what I'm looking forward to in 2009. Seeing that list, I also really want to play Alpha Protocol, assuming it lives up to its concept. Prototype always sat a little funny with me... I do want to play it but for some reason my game radar is sending off warning bells. I don't know why... It just is. This year I had the same vibe with both TFU and Mirror's Edge and to varying degrees they both lived up to the warning bells that went off for me.

The only game on the list that I really don't know anything about is Borderlands. The rest are things I want to play but I have no urge one way or another.

If I could, I think I'd change my vote from Borderlands to InFamous, after seeing all the recent preview coverage. My only concern with the game is the length, since I'm pretty sure a dev commented a month or so ago about the game's length not being the point or something (implying that it was pretty short).

I voted for Ghostbusters, because I think it has the potential to be the most fun of any of the games on this list.

I almost voted for Brutal Legend, but the lack of a PC version saddens me. Tim Schafer has never made a game that wasn't on the PC, and I don't like the trend.

Dragon Age could turn out well, but I haven't gotten excited about a Bioware game since the Baldur's Gate days. KOTOR didn't do it for me, and I haven't been able to get excited about their releases ever since.

I've never even heard of Alpha Protocol.

slhunter

Absolutely Dragon Age: Origins...

I'm certainly interested in seeing how Alpha Protocol and Borderlands looks, but Dragon Age looks/sounds amazing and Bioware is a great company that makes great games.

KingGorilla
12-21-2008, 02:09 PM
Not to burst the happy bubble but Dragon Age is not really a new property. It is another Baldur's Gate game, with a different title. The Gregs have made that really clear, it is a return to the Baldur's Gate, D and D world.

Spigot
12-21-2008, 02:13 PM
But if Dragon Age doesn't have the D&D license and is in a whole new world, well, as much as it might be a spiritual successor to the Baldur's Gate games, you'd have to say that it is technically a new property.

It would be like saying that Bioshock isn't a new property despite the fact that everyone considers it a spiritual successor to the System Shock games.

Sazime
12-21-2008, 02:18 PM
Because you are a failure as a human being.
Really, I want to know. Right now I can only attribute it to two things:

1. Jack Black
2. The Trailer Just Came Out

Not enough people played Psychonauts to have thought "Hey! It's the guys who made Psychonauts! Awesome!" To me, it just didn't add up.

Now, I know people loved the game, but I don't know how many more puzzle platformers I can take. I crave action. I want weapons and multiplayer madness. All I see for Brutal is Jack Black and an intriguing style.

Um....wow...where to begin.

You realize that Psychonauts is not the only game that Tim Schafer has done, right? The guy has been working on games for nearly 20 years now, if not longer! He's designed several absolute classics, including Monkey Island, Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max Hit the Road, and Grim Fandango.

Well, there is a real dearth of games where you can shoot people in multiplayer. I can understand Sazime's frustration given the often underpublicized death of the shooter genre.

Doublefine has a Q&A where they state that just because they haven't talked about a PC version doesn't mean there won't be a PC version. And EA is a PC-friendly publisher.

It is an action game. Looks kind of God-of-War-ish so far. Don't know about multiplayer. I'm not really expecting a lot of puzzling. I think it's not so much Psychonauts fans as Tim Schafer fans.

I wasn't going by Schafer specifically, I was referring more to the studio as a whole and their past performance. Games of this type at a $60 price point just won't go anywhere and have limited appeal. That's apparent by the sales of other games in the genre.

This game will sell to Schafer fans and Black Jack fans, and if it even comes close to 1 million, it will be because of the Jack Black fans. If they released it on the Wii, I'd even be willing to believe it would sell close to 1 million, but I wouldn't have high hopes for it.

They're both pretty similar in genre so far as I can tell, InFamous is being made by the Sly Cooper guys, Prototype is being made by the team behind Hulk: Ultimate Destruction.

Prototype is more like Crackdown with destructible environments, super powered character jumping all over the city just fucking shit up. Multi-Platform.

Infamous is more along the lines of GTA, dude with lightning powers walking around town fucking shit up. PS3 Exclusive

There are no guns or driving in InFamous so far as I know, but it's supposed to be very story focused.

In Prototype I believe your character can actually change forms into different things, but I haven't seen much on the game lately.

Thanks Grifter & Gorvi. Neither one sounds like it is my cup of tea. Had a blast with Crackdown (mostly due to co-op and super-leaping), but not really looking to go back any time soon. GTA I can appreciate, but don't enjoy at all.

'Infamous' always reminds me of the joke in The 3 Amigos.

I'm still confused as to why.

Because it is a Tim Schafer game, and every game he has made has been amazing. I have high hopes, and really doubt I'll be let down.

I almost voted for Brutal Legend, but the lack of a PC version saddens me. Tim Schafer has never made a game that wasn't on the PC, and I don't like the trend.

Well, the lack of a currently announced PC version. The systems supported are usually determined by the publisher. Psychonauts was supposed to be Xbox only, until they changed publishers, and maybe Brutal Legend will make its way over to the PC as well.

To be fair, you are overestimating him. He did not design Monkey Island, but he did create a lot of the dialogue and some scripting. I don't believe he was involved at all with Sam & Max Hit the Road. That was Dave Grossman's baby.

Speaking of, why is Shafer not working with Telltale?

Because Telltale's games are kind of crappy. And he started his own company, doing games that he wants to do.

I just like the aesthetics of inFamous a lot more than what I've seen of Prototype. I'm sure both will be fun but inFamous just grabbed me for some reason. It also helps that it's by Sucker Punch and I am a HUGE Sly Cooper fan, so the pedigree is great.
