HAHA! she's a few minutes in and already got it in once minus the of Alaska. Someone else will have to keep score. I can't make myself care enough about either of them to watch. Odds are, whichever one gets in, we will not hear much from them unless they shoot a hunting partner in the face or try to correct a grade-schoolers spelling of the word potato.

I tried doing that with the McCain/Obama, it got too easy after a while. Someone had suggested putting obscure (but would probably be used) words in a hat and each person gets their own.

Yeah, my roommates and I were discussing this... they just brought home a huge box of alcohols.

And coincidentally, I did that for the first debate. But, as I said, it wasn't as fun when you pick words you know they are gonna say. As football boots said, you gotta get creative with the words.
What kind of alcohols did they bring? And will you be making a visit to this (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=81) thread later on perhaps?

I think Palin is doing pretty good actually.

The problem is the same as the entire McCain campaign. All tactics and no strategy. Palin has put them in an even smaller box which is going to be even harder to get out of.

I think that McCain will narrow the gap, but in the long run the road to the presidency has become that much harder for him.

It wasn't a complete trainwreck, and I'll give credit to Palin where it's due. She kept her poise, and did as best she could considering her situation.

However, her actual answers were hollow, and often repeated her talking points or dodged the question, doggone it.

Biden was very effective, stayed on point most of the time, and mostly avoided the usual pitfalls attributed to him.

I agree. Really didn't feel like either one got a solid win...but neither really blew it either. Honestly, given some of the history on Biden and the recent stumbles by Palin, I thought one or the other would fold. Lots of fencing, fairly amicable, and no real blood drawn.

I must say that Palin performed a little better than I expected. That said I still think that Biden really out did Palin.

Biden is usually quite aggressive in his debates and I thought it was classy of him to not call out Palin on a few things. For instance Palin getting the commander in Afghanistan's name incorrect. It is McKiernan and she was saying McClellan. You could see he noticed but decided to leave it to the networks to have at it.

Among all voters, CNN has it by 15 or so

Among "undecided voters", CBS has it by 25.

Oh, come on. They were using two completely different tactics, you can't judge the "win" based on just one side. Biden was there to attack McCain's policies and tie him to the Bush administration, and Palin was there to use it as a platform to talk to everyone at home.

Last week, people were saying Obama did better than expected, and so that made him a winner. This week Palin did (much) better than expected, but she's still a loser. I'm not here to debate myself, but I will say there is a consitent double standard (for both sides) that's just retarded. The debates aren't about winning points like Debate Club, they're about getting your message across, and I think they both accomplished that goal. Party line split in the poles.

I think McCain did worse than expected which is why folks labeled Obama the winner. It was really a tie at face value but based on peoples expectations Obama won. McCain was supposed to be what Biden was in tonight debate. Biden came out on top. The debate was kind of boring. Palin said all sorts of things that I would have jumped on and shit given half a chance, and Biden kinda passed them all up. He looked more than a bit nervous, though. And both of them also looked really sketchy -- Palin moreso, because in addition to the general "I'm a lying politician" look I picked up from both, there was a really weird fervor that came into her eyes every time she said "America." The difference between patriotism and brainwashing is not subtle.

Things I take away:
Biden will not take any shit.
Palin does not like people, she never once looked away from the camera.
No one gives a damn about the gays even so far as to say the fed has no authority over marriage except full faith and credit.

Yeah, that conversation seemed really awkward to me. It was also odd when Palin started blathering about her family/friends network at that point.

Ok, so everytime you ask her to think about something she can't handle.

Katie: Any laws you would want to change?
Palin: In the history of the great America, we all disagree. But oh no, State level can handle it.
She IS State level.

Katie: What publications do you read?
Palin: Oh, all of them. In the great land of America, Alaska get the same news.
Just wow.

Palin is not only inexperienced (that's forgivable, I think... I'm voting Obama), but more importantly she is appallingly uninformed.

If you are running for the second highest position in the nation, you should know some Supreme Court rulings you disagree with. You should know what the Bush Doctrine is. You should be able to name your primary news sources. I mean, if I tell you I get all my news from Huffington Post, that tells you something. If I say I watch Fox News, that tells you something else. The fact that this woman repeatedly fails to answer substantive questions that are directly related to the office she is running for is completely unforgivable.

I mean the bailout question took the cake. My niece is 4 and probably could of spoke better about the bailout. Seriously, the kid can repeat stuff she her's just once like she came up with it on her own. Point is it's all that's been on the news, in the papers, and so forth. "It's about job creation."

palin appealed to her base effectively, biden appealed to his base less effectively. palin did not appeal to undecided effectively at all, biden appealed to undecided very effectively.-my prediction of the polling

This.

Biden did EXACTLY what he needed to do to woo the undecideds, while the hardcore Dems wanted him to rip off her head and shit down her neck.

She did significantly better than expectations - and, in fact, she did just as well as Bush did in his first national debate in 2000. As another former rival said, she is the 'Master of the Glittering Generality.'

Was I the only one who actually became pissed off when Palin came out and said "No, I don't think I'm going to answer that question, I'm going to use this time to blather on about what a maverick McCain is."

Why didn't she just flip off the moderator, throw the horns up and shout "MCCAIN 08" ?

Just noticed that Factcheck.org has their analysis of the debate (http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/factchecking_biden-palin_debate.html) up.

Looks like they both twisted the facts. The only thing that surprised me about the FactCheck report was how few lies they found.

What an incredible contrast between two candidates. Wow.

Every time I see an interview clip of this woman, trying to understand what she says gives me a headache :/.

I can't stop laughing over this. It's not enough that Thomas The Tank Engine is being used for Palin. I love the look on his face as he derails.

Palin did better then I expected her to, but so did Biden. He held back where most would have attacked. Biden win.

I could not stand the spin room crap that some networks were showing. Thankfully CNN does not show that crap. So worthless.
