And Dragon Age is a sequel of... what exactly?

None of the above, especially Dragon Age. :p
Wow...what a tough one. I had to actually really think about this one. God of War 1 and 2 are too of my favorites of all time but at the same time Mass Effect was the first RPG I've ever finished and finally game me appreciation for the genre.
After much deliberation I went with Mass Effect 2.

Methinks that Dragon Age snuck in from the New IP category.

Starcraft 2 looks exactly the same as the first game, and the graphics are cartoony just like Red Alert 3 and Warcraft 3.
Though, of the choices, God of War 3 looks to finish the series off with a bang.

I voted for Bioshock 2, although to be honest I'm not really excited for any of the games on my list. I guess I'm interested in Dragon Age, but it's not a sequel. It should be replaced with Dawn of War 2.

Of those listed, Mass Effect 2 (won't vote for Dragon Age since somebody fucked up, or put in in just to give us something to whine about :p). Dawn of War 2 is my actual answer though. Thanks for reminding me Rogue.

I know it's all about opinions of those doing the choosing, but they seem to have stuffed something up in pretty much every poll. Either that or they're playing with us....

Mass Effect. Sorry, but if I could, I would move into the Mass Effect universe. I want to BE commander Shepard!
Mass Effect 2
Plus, it is the only title in the list with 'ass' in it. And you know I loves me some ass. ;)

This one was probably the roughest vote for me, but since I was absolutely crazy for the first Bioshock, I have absolutely been dying for the second. There aren't many 360 titles I played repeatedly for single player mode only, but Bioshock had me wrapped in it's submersive story, pun friggin intended. I simply cannot wait to be drawn into that universe again!
Mass Effect pulls a very damn close second. I am looking forward to any improvements they can make on the action and speed of the game, especially the vehicles, that they can. I also hope they can improve the interface for the 360.

I guess the good Doctor is the only one doing these, so it's understandable if something gets left off the poll; it seems like every poll that goes up around here is missing a key option or two. Maybe next year we could have people nominate things for the different categories?
And I went with Starcraft 2, of course. Just watched a gameplay video, and even bad commentary (by the lead designer, amusingly enough; he really shouldn't do commentary) couldn't ruin it. And it should be interesting to see what they do with the world editor, as apparently they're adding in all the units cut from Starcraft, as well as any new abilities in Starcraft 2 that get cut.

I am skeptical that Bioshock 2 can evolve the concept in a provocative way. Resident Evil 5 is probably the game I imagine I will enjoy the most (especially co-op), but I'm not expecting it to realy "wow" me. Instead, I imagine Resident Evil 4 merely with online multiplayer. That's not a bad thing in and of itself, but I doubt we will see much evolution in the gameplay concepts.
God of War, however, is a provocative choice. I am anxious to see what this team does now that they have a lot of power to throw at the design. They were always incredibly cinematic and stylistic in terms of what they were able to do with the PS2 hardware. The question is whether or not they will put that effort towards evolving the gameplay now that they have a system powerful enough. My money is on this team. I want to see what they do with next gen tech.

Clearly there's something wrong with me, but I'm not that excited about any of these games. If Killzone 2 manages to make first-person cover work, but who knows how that will turn out. I guess nobody gets my vote.

I think i would have voted for dow2 if it was on there... as it is looking at the list ME2 is something i'm really looking froward to... well if it hits PCs before the end of the year :) ME has some huge flaws but it was a really highly enjoyable and has the potential to be something truly amazing. As much as i'd prefer a kotor3 integrating some of what they've learned to do with ME i'll take ME2
I'm looking froward to starcraft 2 and biochock 2 but i just don't think either of those games will grow past what they did with the first game... where both dow2 and me2 i think have a chance to do something amamzing

Hmm. Not really excited about any of these choices. I'm more of a new IP man, anyway. I would give it to Bioshock, as I enjoyed the original more then any of the others listed, but with Ken Levine out, I have pretty much no hope for the sequel. Even though I'm not excited, Mass Effect 2 is the only game on that list I plan on buying, so it got my vote.

Agreed. Anyone who thinks Diablo 3 is going to come out is delusional.
As far as Starcraft 2 goes, keep in mind that only one third of the S2 trilogy, or whatever they are calling it, is coming out next year. Hopefully it won't be $50. :p

ME had some amazing things that it tried to do but either failed at or didn't really explore fully and so on. If ME2 can do those things better the game is set up to be stunning and hopefully they've learnt a lot from ME.
Like i said i think out of all the games on the list it easily has the most potential.

I think as far as sequels go, story plays a very big role in keeping players involved. For games with a strong story, a sequel isn't just upgraded graphics and refined gameplay, it's a continuation of something that you've developed an emotional attachment too. Hence the reason Mass Effect is winning by such a large margin, followed closely by Bioshock, the other heavily story driven game on that list.

You are correct, Diablo 3 will be coming out before Starcraft 2. Blizzard announced a few months back that they were moving most of their resources to D3 until it was finished then they would continue work on SC2. That being said if Diablo 3 is not coming out in 2009 neither is SC2.
I really hope more thought, preparation and community involvement goes into next years "Coggies". Other than this poll it feels like most of the nominees were either released in the last 8 weeks or drawn randomly out of a hat, maybe both.
EDIT: I voted for Mass Effect 2

I did not realize Mass Effect was definitely slated for 2009. Citation needed? Heh.
I'm finding it very hard to choose between Starcraft II and Mass Effect 2. On the one hand, Starcraft still means something - hell, I've had it continuously installed for ten years. On the other, Mass Effect was great, and I can't wait to see the story continue. Oh, all right - Starcraft II it is. Ten years is worth something, and Raynor was awesome when Shepard was just a far-off twinkle in a character designer's eye.

I think a couple more are interested, but compare it to the rest of the bunch and they all have prequels far outshining Killzone 1. I'm kinda looking forward to it, but hell, I'm still basing it on video's and the first Killzone so it won't even touch the anticipation of a Resi 5 or ME2

I don't know that Mass Effect is OFICIALLY slated for 2009, but I do know some of those officially slated for 2009 won't be making it out next year.
And OFICIALLY, my most anticipated sequel of 2009 is the upcoming Wii Sports. I had an immensely good time with the first one, (still do!) and can't wait to try out the Motion Plus games.

Oddly, the most oddly chosen Coggies came early on, and I haven't found it necessary to make another User Coggies for about a week. Diablo 3 is a big enough oversite (especially when you include Street Fighter 4 - a game that will get a few votes from fans, but that has such specialized fans that it is a bit like Ace Combat. . . yes, they'll get it day one and anticipate it all year, but most people care less about it than the next Tomb Raider game) that I might have to do this one.
Blizzard does take forever to make their games, but they had a playable demo that showed off several areas in the game and most of the classes this Summer. Content creation and balancing can take time, but you think it will take them more than a year?
I think GoW will get fewer votes than you think because so many of us have yet to put down $400 for the privilege of playing the PS3. . . and the Bioshock teasers were really crappy. They blunted my extreme interest down to very high interest.

I suspected that was what happened but I just hadn't seen it put forth by any of the mods/admins. It explains why there were some glaring omissions in some of the categories which probably wouldn't have happened if there had been an nomination process.
But that's growing pains for you.

Wow, that's a tough list to vote on... I went ahead and voted for Mass Effect 2. I'm really interested to see how they build on the previous title. Mass Effect was great, but had room for improvement. Hopefully that's what they bring in the sequel..
If I had a better computer, I would maybe say Starcraft 2. Yes, I know, it certainly looks like it's basically the same exact game, but who cares. That game was awesome and I'm sure that they made some improvements to the "near perfect" game that it was.

It's not confirmed, but most people think SC2 will see release this year. I can't see D3 making it until late 2010 at best.
