This one gets the dreaded rumor tag because it's so thinly sourced, but it's frankly too awesome not to be true. According to EGM/1UP's rumormonger, Capcom is eying old school arcade/NES title Strider for a revival.

This news makes me a very happy camper. It also makes me think that Capcom is spying on my mind, because it was just recently that I was pondering this very scenario. Q-Mann says that after the success of the Bionic Commando and Mega Man games of recent vintage they're looking at a Devil May Cry-esque style for Strider Hiryu.

Again, there is no source on this, and they've been wrong on this stuff before, but maybe if we hope hard enough we can will it to happen.

I have fond memories of Strider on my Genesis. I loved using that sword of his.

I wonder if it would be a full on 3D action game like the new Bionic Commando, or classic 2D game play such as Bionic Command: Rearmed and Megaman 9. I would really like to see a slick 2D action game with lots of jumping around and slicing shit up. Mmmm.

Strider (for the arcade and Genesis) was easily one of my all time favorite games growing up, I honestly think I would be the happiest gamer alive if Capcom gave this the Bionic Commando treatment. An updated version for live and a remake for retail would be the greatest thing ever.

I agree. Capcom's already done great work in the downloadable games space, and adding Strider to the mix would just amp things up even more. It would be awesome if GRIN developed the Strider remake and the Strider revival.

Anyone else beat this on the NES? I remember hammering at it for a week and finally acing my way through it.

I've seen footage and played as Strider in Marvel Vs. Capcom, so....can't wait and hope it's true. Us younger gamers are certainly glad for Capcom's awesome job of reviving its old games series!

This was the first game I saw on the Megadrive (Genesis for you Westerners) and it blew me away and made me want the system so much.

Ohh, I would dig a new Strider game.

But know what is missing?

Megaman Legends!

You are so right! Megaman Legends is such a great game. I still need to pick up the second one and the Misadventures of Tron Bonne, but I would love a new entry into this series. I actually found the story to be very good.

Speaking of Megaman, how awesome was the recent Penny Arcade comic?

No Megaman 9 for the PC tho. Sad panda.

A 2D(in 3D) side-scroller/platformer extravaganza would be nice.

It was almost a proto-RPG or at least Zelda-esque game where you had to collect clues and items as you wandered about the world. Give it a 3D treatment a la Bionic Commando and I'd be very happy.

I am hoping that is what they are doing as well, but by today's standards, I;d hope they are truly working on a slightly better level design. I'd love to see test rooms too, like in BC

Yeah, it was waaaay different than the arcade/Genesis versions. In fact, I would say it was more like Bionic Commando than any other game on the system at the time. Jumping between checkpoints, collecting clues to be able to move on, but you could actually leave a stage if you didn't have what you needed.

I wouldn't want a full 3D remake, unless they changed some of the hinkier gameplay. It would not stand by today's standards. Not at all.

I could see it as a mix between Sands of Time and Ninja Gaiden set in a futuristic Sci-Fi world, maybe throw in some RPG like elements.

Makes sense. Strider has a lot of potential. I remember playing it back when I had a C64. Capcom is by far my favorite Asian developer. They've done almost everything right this generation.

Taking into account your replies to this news and the fact I've never played or heard of Strider, I would welcome a remake so I could experience it in some form. Especially considering the ''Devil May Cry-esque'' part.

A retro update like Bionic Commando would be awesome, but a full retail game is good too.

You know I loved Strider growing up and when Marvel vs Capcom 2 first came out I used Strider as one of the teammates. Good to see another classic game getting a new release. Wonder if it will be a reboot or just a remake.

I would love a Strider remake...I dug both the Arcade and NES versions.

I only played the arcade version years ago and loved it, but wasn't very good at it. I'd love to see a new version. Or, hell, just an XBLA version.
