While maybe not on the same philanthropic level as Folding, I've always enjoyed the Seti@Home project from a sci-fi nerd standpoint (Contact is one of my favorite movies).

Basically, like folding, it uses your computer to analyze signals for signs of well...aliens.
Anyways, I put together a CoG group, as even the EvAv one was fairly sparse back in the day.

Ahh, I remember when I used to do this.
Not sure if I will start again, but if I do, I will keep this group in mind!

Wow, it sure has changed. I've not used seti@home in years. I couldn't my original account so I've created a new one and joined the group.

If I do this, will I get to see the result of what my laptop analyzed?

There isn't really much reported back. You can run the processing with more visual feedback, but generally the result of the work is "no aliens so far".
And still only 3 people? Come on, it's aliens!

Sorry but I already joined the Folding CoG team yesterday. I suppose I could join the Seti team on my Quad Core PC and leave Folding for the PS3.

Ok, I just joined... Core 2 Quad 64 bit power coming your way!
But please join the Folding CoG group with your PS3 if you're in this group and have a PS3. We need more than 5 members in each group!!

Wow, I didn't notice before that it finally detected and started using my GPU for processing. Was wondering why the recent average credit was so high.

I was going at hyperspeed with my 3.2GHz overclocked Core 2 Quad. Then I realized that its probably NOT good to have the core temps pushing 75C and the fans on max all day. Rats!! I had to throttle it down to 50% usage.
