Fork thread button?

One of the other vBulletin forums I frequent, over at ENWorld (www.enworld.org), has a nice feature I'd like to see here: at the bottom of each post, by the quote button, there's a "Fork to new thread" button that quotes the message, but starts a new thread rather than replying to the current one. It seems pretty handy for when an interesting off-topic issue comes up in a thread.

Threads would get boring if you couldn't derail them...

I support the idea of this button only if it pops up a window that reads
"Go Fork Yourself"

That's a pretty cool idea. In theory, it seems like it would keep more threads on topic. I like it!

It sounds like it could be a mod for vBulletin or something that could be implemented with another forum template. I know Mike is working on an alternative to the current color format in the forums here and I think he is changing the reply, edit, etc. buttons as well.

Don't know how feasible this idea is though, I know little about vB but some of the other leaders here know and have worked quite a bit with it.
