What games are on your radar for 2009?

For me:

Star Ocean: The Last Hope (March 10, 2009 - 360)
Star Ocean: The Second Evolution (January 20, 2009 - PSP)
White Knight Chronicles (TBA 2009 - PS3)
Sands of Destruction (World Destruction) (Q3 2009 - DS)
Additional Penny Arcade Adventures installments (multi)
Valkyria Chronicles DLC episodes (PS3)

And some possible 2009 releases:

Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon (Wii)
Gran Turismo 5 (PS3)
Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, 360)
Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3)
Alan Wake (360, PC)

So, do you like RPGs much?At least I put GT5 in there. You know, to balance things out. :D

I guess the other way to take this thread, what other games should I be excited about for 2009?

I've never played a PSO game, so I'm very interested. I like what I've heard.

The new Ratchet was announced at the end of that download game that came out earlier this year, it just said Ratchet Returns In Fall 2009 or something (I haven't played it yet, so I don't know).

Hmm...

Ghostbusters.
Resident Evil 5.
Fight Night Round 4.
God of War 3 (holy shit, I'm likely getting a PS3 in 2009! Awesome!)
If there's a new Rock Band, I'm sure I'll want it.
NCAA Football 2010.
Bioshock 2.
Alan Wake (is that 2009?)

Damn. Considering it's still 2008, the fact I already know I want 7-8 games coming out in 2009 is crazy.

But ...

Drake 2
Riddick
Resi 5

Heavy Rain is up there, may be the thing to get me to hold on to my PS3, offered to sell it to a girl at work looking for one.

Dawn of War 2 sounds much more like a Warhammer game

Company of Heroes has a new expansion as well, I cum when I think of it.

Portal 2 and Episode 3 are very high up on my anticipation list.

For the sketchy info, I really want to see if The Crossing is still being worked on by Arkane. Diablo 3 would blow my socks off. I am also curious to see if/when a third season of Sam and Max is getting ready.

From the 08 back log I want to put real time into Little Big Planet creation. My new rig, a Christmas present to myself, will be graced by Crysis, Warhead, STALKER Clearr Skies, all in their DX 10 glory. Also, and hopefully, a shot at Rock Band 2 and another guitar.

Deus Ex 3 as well.
I predict that fans will criticize it from straying too far from its roots. Just like certain Fallout fans feel about Fallout 3. If the publisher is smart enough to give the game a different moniker, things could be different.

As another recent example of this, I offer Dead Space. The game was originally going to be tied to the System Shock series, which would have inspired a great deal of disappointment.

Dead Space. The game was originally going to be tied to the System Shock series, which would have inspired a great deal of disappointment. You know, I read that Electronic Arts was making a sequel to System Shock. The news came out shortly after the first reports of Bioshock came out. When i played Dead Space, i had the distinct impression that this was EA's take on System Shock. Boy oh boy am I glad they took it in a new direction instead of using the name System Shock to sell games. Remember that bullshit Electronic Arts pulled with Goldeneye? Ugh. Makes my stomach turn.

Anyways, good move EA for NOT cashing in on a name, and instead giving us a new IP.

StarCraft 2 was on my short 2009 wish list. Hell, it was the only title there. Then Blizzard decided to milk us for every dime and release it as three games. As if they really need the money, even in these tough times, with WoW making them bundles of cash every month. I'll probably still buy StarCraft, but I have resolved to be involved in only one of their money-making schemes. I hereby vow to NEVER purchase WoW. I want StarCraft more.

I put Sands of Time in my all-time favorite games of EvArZ! Yet the sequels never hooked me. There was something magical about the innocent attraction between the prince and Fara (spelling?) that makes me weep at the end every time. The puzzles were always *just* difficult enough to work out, and *just*difficult enough to challenge. Hopefully, the new POP won't let me down.

I kept the first Mirrors Edge video around for more than a year, playing it practically every night. The music, the visuals, the premise of a 1st person platformer (like Sands of Time? I hope!). Yet when the demo came out, I didn't like nearly as much as I thought. There are a number of poor design choices that sound good on paper, but are cumbersome in execution. Also, there are choices that simply don't sound good on paper at all, such as hanging on a ledge and getting a face-full of wall. When the prince hangs on a ledge (in Sands), the camera 'suggests' the direction you should go. Not so in Mirror's Edge. You just get to say, "Hey Wall! How's it going?!" Frustrating.

Months ago, I remember reading about a game that plays like a 'vertical Gears of War'.

The premise is that you have a grappling hook/jet pack and you end up scaling mountains, cliffs, and buildings while taking cover and shooting baddies. I can't remember the name, but the art style was NOT the Rob Lifeld/meaty grunt look of Gears, which is a very welcome change.

Gears with a grappling hook? SOLD!

SOLD!
Oh, that looked great too. Dark Void, it's from Capcom. Damn it, 2009 is looking like another wallet killer.

Capcom! Oh shit. That reminds me, aren't we getting a new bionic Commando this year?

Yeah. I'm a HUGE sucker for grappling hooks.

As bad as Fatal Inertia is, I ended up buying it because it mixes two of my weaknesses, futuristic racers AND grappling hooks. How could it possibly go wrong?!

That's awesome you thought of me! :D

Well I read enough of your posts to think I kinda know what you like and enjoy. This game for me just shouted "funness" and had gameplay that seemed you would really really like. I think I spend to much time on here that I know other gamers game taste :o.

ME is...frustrating. At times it's a fun "old school Tomb Raider" fun, if you found that fun. I always did. I'm a odd, I realize that. I think me and the guy from Play Magazine were the only two to actually like the last "old" Tomb Raider. Yeah, that's how much I'll put up with busted gameplay. And ME for me at many parts, had busted gameplay. I won't ruin the surprise of that. But i'd love to see your impressions in the ME thread...or even in the weekend gaming...ok, i've derailed this thread enough...

As I see what everyone is looking forward too, I'm doing a lot of nodding, and "oh I need to get that"...and it looks like i'm going to broke again buying games...

Ghostbusters
Brutal Legend
Dragon Quest V (and VI if it comes out next year)
Rock Band 2009. (I'm fully expecting a name change, away from 1/2/3 and towards yearly editions.)

But I think the game I'm most looking forward to, and I don't think it's been officially annouced for an NA release, is Sin and Punishment II. Personally, I think it's going to be Treasure's best game yet, and the best game on the Wii yet.

Is THIS 2009 also? Ouch. Why do all of you conspire to take my money and give it to game companies?

I played the first Sin & Punishment on Virtual Console and INSTANTLY wondered why there wasn't a Wii sequel in the works. The game simply SCREAMS for Wii controls where you point and shoot using the Wii remote.

So, I've been reading Wire'd Game|Life analysis of their 2008 predictions (http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/12/gamelifes-2008.html). Not only were they spot-on with most of their (rather safe) predictions but we really didn't know much about coming games a year ago. Gears of War 2 hadn't even been announced, and games like Too Human weren't dated for the year either. HD-DVD was still in the picture at this time last year, and there wasn't a single WiiWare game to be seen. Metal Gear Solid 4 was going to save the PS3, and nobody expected a DS with build in cameras and downloadable games.

I can't believe how much has changed in only a year.

That also means that a lot of titles will be coming out that we know very little about, and there will be a ton more surprises around the corner as we barrel (roll) into 2009!

I'm sure the 2009 titles I'm excited about today won't be my favorites in 2009, just as I wasn't expecting to love Boom Blox, Left 4 Dead, World of Goo, or Fable II.
