View Full Version : Fringe Vs XFiles
I know it may be a little premature to rate Fringe but I think the show is really showing potential.
SPOILERS!
Fringe for me at the first two episodes were really bland. The third episode caught my attention and then when I watched the fourth episode I was glued to the TV. The show is really showing how awesome it's going to get.
XFiles has always been a favorite for me, the whole story line was fantastic. I mostly liked the shows pertaining to aliens though. With the recent move that just came out I feel as if it wasn't very xfiles like. It was just a search for a person with the help of a psychic.
I'll be voting for Fringe because I think it has the potential to beat XFiles.

X-Files because I recently watched the whole thing and those final 2 seasons are highly under-rated.

X-Files, no contest.
Unfortunately for Fringe, I think the actress who plays the FBI agent just isn't very good. I almost cringe whenever she tries to deliver a line with any emotional charge to it. Plus, the solutions to the episodes just seem too easy everytime.

I tried Fringe for 2 weeks and gave up. Already too much other great TV to watch.

I think this is an unfair comparison. In fact, it seems like Fringe is trying to make a point to not be like the X-Files, so I wish there were a third category in the poll: "incomparable."

Is it bad that I haven't even seen Fringe, but voted anyway? :o

X Files, but I agree that this show has some serious potential.

Seeing as I have just done the same thing... No?

X-Files always seemed too slow for me... I've liked what I've seen so far in Fringe, even if it's completely junk science, it's still entertaining.

Not Junk Science Mot, its Fringe Science.

Why would you insult X-Files by comparing Fringe to it? Seriously, why? X-files was some of the best TV that the Fox network has ever put out, while I doubt Fringe will even make it out of season 1. I can't even begin to imagine this show making a 9 season run like the X-files did.

I voted X-files, but I'm starting to like Fringe too, more than I expected. Episode four was really good! I like the whole idea with a background story connecting the separate episodes, much like the whole alien thing connecting the X-files episodes.
I am starting to like Fringe and the more evil they make Walter the more I am going to like it but to be honest it's hard to compare the two at this time. We have 9 seasons and 2 movies vs 3 episodes. Fringe has not had the time reveal all of the components of the main plot or to develop the characters in a way that they are endearing to us like Mulder and Scully had become.
Like Sandman, I have been revisiting the X-Files and I have to say it is one of the best series to have ever been on television. I'm not sure Fringe will ever be able to equal or surpass what the X-Files was able to accomplish but few shows will.

I really like Fringe so far, but like it's been said, comparing 3 episodes of it to an entire 9 seasons of X-Files isn't exactly fair. Try comparing the first 3 episodes of X-Files to Fringe and then see what kind of results we'll get.
I do really like the fact that the characters and the writing are a little bit off the wall. I've been re-watching the X-Files lately and there are times where it almost seems a little too dry. Still even with that said, generally the last few times I watched X-Files, I popped in the DVD intending to watch one, and end up watching 4 instead.

I am not even a large fan of X-Files but Fringe(in my opinion only) sucks horribly. Wooden acting, horrible plots, insane endings just to wrap things up, time warps so that characters can go anywhere in a single day...and Fringe Science that hasn't advanced since some old fucker was put in a mental pen.
Just horrid.
That being said I have watched all 4 episodes because there is nothing else...

I thought Fringe was one of the worst/least intelligent shows I've ever seen. X-Files was awesome however.

X-Files for me. The first episode of Fringe held my attention, but I was disappointed by the second. I guess my gnat-like attention span might have something to do with it, but I probably won't watch it again.
I did like Walter, though.

Definitely X-Files. Chris Carter seemed to be a whole lot better at the overarching conspiracy things than Abrams. Plus the episodes actually wrapped up in a satisfying manner, unlike the dues ex machina heavy last minute wrap ups in Fringe.

...unlike the dues ex machina heavy last minute wrap ups in Fringe.I actually find that the answers come much earlier in the show. A problem occurs and Walter just happens to have been involved in exactly that problem prior to being committed. That's pretty much how each episode has been "solved" so far.
