View Full Version : Xerxes's Christmas Vacation

I will have 16 days off starting Saturday. Working for a University has it's perks come Christmas time. I plan to wake up work out for a few hours before vegging out to games in front my 32in LCD.

I've made a list I currently don't have with me but I'll post it later. This is a list of about 26 games I plan to play during my time off. I'll be looking for hour estimations to games that's too long to be on the list when I post my list.

But now I'm looking for other suggestions. Mainly PS2/PS3/Xbox/360 games. I'll also take some suggestions for GBA/DS/PSP games. I'll be subjected to visiting people. As in driving visitors places and not having to be apart of anything going on there hence more game time.

Suggestions, suggestions, suggestions... What's short, sweet, or must plays?

PoP is still not in my hands yet. L4D is a wildcard. I know in the evenings I'll be asked to join, and I'll go, cause I love co-op.

GoW: CoO is the first God of War game I've played and I love it. I have very high hopes for GoW 1 and 2. Even Heavenly Sword and Conan. But I probably won't beat that one as I've heard the last boss is a douche.

Yeah I'd rather knock out the shelves of shit I already got. And I have a ton of Gapharic Novels to get through as well. :)

Rogue Trooper, criminally overlooked when it came out, but easily one of the best action games on the last gen. It's also really close to the comic and you can tell a lot of love went into making it.

I used to love to read Bone. Been a long time...all my comics are in my parent's attic. I'm visiting them this weekend but i won't be able to find them. I have way to many comics up there...but the temptation is there to find them.

I think you will enjoy L4D. I'm only a noob to online co-op but I had lots of fun with Spigot and Rock Bandit the other night. You know it will be easy to find others to join...but it's short and sweet...so lots of fun packed in a short time.

I only played GoW 1 but it's not long. Or I don't remember it being long. That's a good choice for short time game playing. Heavenly Sword is defintely short, but worth playing. Others...

Dead Space - probably one of the best of short games on your list. I would put this first in my opinion. I liked taking my time in it but even blowing through it you can't help but admire the "scenery" :)

Uncharted- Another game that has pretty "scenery" but short and a must play. One of the reasons I am glad I do own a PS3.

Bioshock- Not a long game but one you really should play when you don't want to blow through. It's a game that you need to look around and gawk at what the developers created in that game. It's beyond just good looking...it's total immersion and it's still for me a game that I will measure any future "nice looking" game against. It's one of the few games I go back to just to play around with...and I don't do that with any game really. But if you aren't interested in gawking...put this on the top of the list. Bioshock is a must play.

I'm going to slightly derail this thread and ask other people to post their games that they plan on playing with their holiday free time.

Mine:
Final Fantasy XII
Prince of Persia
Finish Resistance 2
Finish Dead Space
Finish Fable 2

I can probably power through all of 'em (I'm halfway through all except Prince of Persia) except FF12 in a couple of days, then focus on FF12.

I have way to many comics up there...but the temptation is there to find them.I'd read Bone in bits and pieces over the years and finally sat down early this year with the complete omnibus edition (thank you library!) and read the whole stinkin' saga. Very nice stuff with a deceptively cute aesthetic over a very dark story.

I need to dig out my old Bone poster that I got in University lo those many years ago and put it up downstairs when they finish the basement. My kids will like it, if nothing else.

That's one BIG pike...

And yeah... I picked up a cool poster of Bone sneaking on a mountain at night with the Red Dragon just looming behind him. I don't have anywhere to hang it right now but it's one of the posters I have in my collection from University that I'd like to get mounted so I can stop using sticky tack to hold it up. You know, class up the joint somewhat...

Read Bone. It's wonderful.

I bought this earlier in the year (saved about half by buying it online instead of in-store) and just picked it up again on Saturday. I have the complete collection in one volume, so it's not the easiest thing to read on the toilet. Will have to read it elsewhere. Only on like page 130, and there's something like 1300+ pages.

I was lucky enough to buy it before a road trip to South Carolina so I made it past halfway just on the way up. Wonderful, wonderful story. I think my girl is getting my a Phone Bone sweater for Christmas too. Oh, how well she knows me.

I wonder if it will be anything like mine usually goes when I have some free time. I look forward to it with the glee of a million exploding suns but when it comes time to play, I either end up online, here, or watching a movie or something and then kicking myself when it gets really late and I realize I just wasted prime, unsullied gaming time doing non-gaming stuff :)

So it's not only me who does this?? I waste half a morning on here and then realize...OMG...I could of been playing <insert game> all this time! Of course today..i'm avoiding cleaning. After playing PoP non-stop the last couple of days...I need to look around to see what needs to be done around here...apparently quite a bit

You can do both. L4D you can easily play in spurts. If you need zombie bait give me a shout :D. Then you can play plenty of FC 2. Another one that I need to play also...

That's about it. What energy I have scrounged up for gaming was given to Rainbow Six Vegas. Sometimes it's not good to play together. ~_~

Yes, do PoP then join us in the ending discussion. Hearing your POV will be really interesting addition to the mix...

Just a suggestion...if you are planning to collect em all...you'll know what I mean when you play...collect them all before the end...and you will know when that is coming.

HA! This sums up my typical free time as well. I may not post nearly as often as others here, but I sure do spend a hell of a lot of time refreshing threads and reading.

Lesson to be learned: walk away from the CoG right now and get back to Fallout 3.

Down boy!

Once you get going, you'll see about the lightseeds. Mauve Kringle is just advising that if you want to try to collect every lightseed, do it before you start the endgame sequence (or make sure you've got a save right before you start it).

That is all.
