Welcome to Eve Online, hope you enjoy your visit. Because Eve does have a level of depth that other MMORPG games do not have, the learning curve can be a little daunting (some would even say Eve has a learning wall not a curve).
This thread is where I hope to keep a list of links to helpfull guides and sites, so that people new to the game have somewhere to go when they are stumped or can't find help in game. But of course feel free to drop your question in the evil_avatar chat room, people are more than willing to field your questions there.

Starting Out
Player Guide (http://www.eve-online.com/guide/en/g01.asp) - The official new players guide. Give it a quick look through and make sure you complete all of the initial tutorial. The agent that you will get sent to in the tutorial has 10 missions that you should complete, the rewards will help you get off the ground and running.
Combat Character Guide (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Eve-Online-Advanced-Starter-Guide-39027.shtml) - A guide for how to create a combat oriented character and the quickest skill path to follow for getting ready for PvP combat .

EVEMon (http://evemon.battleclinic.com/) - EVEMon is a Windows application designed to assist you in keeping track of your EVE Online character skill progression. You can view your current skills and attributes, what you're currently training, and your ISK balance. Able to track multiple characters across multiple accounts, so all your alts can be monitored. You can also plan your future character progression, by setting up a skill training plan. A must have for anyone planning to play the game for more than a couple months.
